Q: Is it okay to ask my manager/team lead of my IT firm that I can’t work under constant monitoring?

AsishI have been working on a startup company in India for a year now. There are some people in my company who like to keep a constant watch on my work. Like asking me the status report every hour, or every 30 minutes. Sometimes, I am being kept watched by some tracking software or camera. I know this...

"I know this is very common" just for comparison, I don't know if it's common in India, it is illegal in other parts of the world.
@nvoigt I didn't know that
Are you the only one being closely monitored? Or is this just part of your company's culture? Do you believe that if you bring it up with your manager, they will change their behavior just for you?
I know this is very common I am from India, with my 12+ years of experience in IT, both in startups and large companies, I never heard anything like this, so it's not very common in India.
@DaveG The question is whether they should take it up with their manager, so if you're recommending that they take it up with their manager, then that would be an answer to the question and I would suggest posting an answer to that effect. Although the "why not" of your possibly-rhetorical question is addressed in the answer that's already posted.

In some industry sectors (e.g. call centers) this is absolutely standard and is done everywhere. There are many call centers in India, of course.
@NarasimhaSharma There is nothing in the question which says the OP is working in IT.
@NotThatGuy It's a completely reasonable question as to why the OP doesn't take up the issue with his manager. There's nothing in the question that explains why he's hesitant. We certainly can't answer whether it's a good idea or not to talk to his manager w/o more information.
@DaveG Something phrased as "Why not do the thing? Here's how you can do it" will often be interpreted as "You should do the thing. Here's how you can do it". If you sincerely wanted to know why they haven't done the thing, then I would suggest something like "Is there any specific reason you haven't done the thing?" or "What are your concerns regarding doing the thing?".
@NotThatGuy My question is "why not take this up with your manager?". It's the elephant in the room, and it's the obvious question to ask. I tossed in "here's something to say if you don't feel comfortable" but that doesn't invalidate the question.
@DaveG "Why not?" -> "Because I first want to know if it's okay to ask them" or "Because I am concerned that it might not go well". Those responses wouldn't get us anywhere that you couldn't have skipped straight to.
@DaveG Whether or not it's "the obvious question to ask" in no way changes how it will often be interpreted (nor does it change the fact that an answer posted 3 hours before you posted your comment already directly answers, or at least very strongly implies an answer to, the question you asked).
@NotThatGuy I'm not interested in how someone else thinks about talking to the manager. I'm interesting in why the OP isn't talking to his or her manager.

@Asish, Yes, of course, you should ask your manager if this is a common practice at your company or not ? Does this watching or monitoring policy apply to all employees at your company ?
@DaveG Some people want to know why I am not talking to the manager. So, the thing is, I was supposed to be trainedhere, and posted elsewhere. However, they were happy about my work , and hired me instead. Now, even though the pay is much less compared to what I would have got, but, I got in good terms with the manager. Continue in the next comment....
So far, I have asked my manager two things- 1) I wanted to work from home, due to rising COVID cases in our region. I travel 60 km per day (up and down), and there were several COVID positive cases in our region, and I never got any work laptop. I applied for WFH, and he agreed 2)There was a really horrible team lead who was a bully,who would force his ideas even though they were horrible, would make me work even though team manager says otherwise, and make my life almost hell. So, I asked my manager (CMD) if he could be avoided, and he listened. So,I am worried, I might me asking too much
