Q: Why are oneiric-backports enabled by default?

rigvedI installed the 11.10 desktop beta version and noticed that oneiric-backports were enabled by default in Software Sources. Now I know that there will not be any backports until 12.04. Also, backports are not recommended for normal users (read: non-power users). So, will these sources be disable...

Q: How do I set up a Danny tech:USB TV box?

I have an External USB TV tuner box, That I used to use with Windows . But now after migrating to Ubuntu, I can't get it to work on Lucid Lynx since its drivers are for Windows only. Q: Blackboard (WebCT) takes ~2 min to load. Any tricks to make it load faster?

wdkrnlsI'm running stock OpenJDK on Ubuntu 10.10 and webCT in firefox loads very slowly. I haven't found anyone else complaining about this so, I'm wondering how to go about debugging this. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

Good morning. :)
The question we have is this: "can we close abandoned/old questions as too localized?"
And if it's too early for straight thinking, then feel free to delay/stall. ;)
@jrg yes, if it's really old and the subject matter is, more localized than not
Otherwise, if it seems like a complex question, or a poorly asked one, trying editing it. That'll bring it back to the top and give it a second chance
jrg
jrg
Alrighty good.
askubuntu.com/questions/23092/… - localized, it's not Ubuntu's fault!

@jrg that's stupid. someone with the same problem likely has 1 rep and will as likely leave a "me too" answer and that's it.

Q: Is there any sort of format and style themes/templates in LibreOffice?

OxwiviI am wondering if there's any kind of predefined themes or templates for formatting styles (Default, Heading 1/2/etc) in LibreOffce. If there are, how can I apply them?

I'm getting tempted to vote to close that one.
Oxwivi always does this - takes us on a merry go round that leads to no where.
@RolandTaylor I've noticed that too
Roland do you still use Kubuntu?
No, I use Ubuntu with all major Desktop Environments installed. Unity is my main.

Q: When are questions about "ubuntu+1" appropriate?

Just curious as to why during the Oneric B1 install on the Netbook, why am I being asked to connect to wireless after it checks to see if you have a working Internet connection to download updates during the install. Any ideas on this?
It's likely a bug in the installer as that feature was recently added.
So by design it should not be going it in that order?
By design it "should" - that is, if it doesn't detect ethernet, it should attempt to find wireless - but it seems to be a bit broken (from what you describe).
Also, gave me no choice, but to encrypt my home directory.

@RolandTaylor There is one thing I'm a bit confused a bit about
The global menu was to utilise the vertical space on the screen more efficiently yes?
So why has it now been replaced by these huge mostly useless grey bars which use up more vertical space than the menu bar that was there to begin with!

@Allan you ask thought-provoking questions that I've been asking for awhile.
The answer I've come up with is this:
