Maybe before participating we could present the user with a really simple IT question. If they don't know the answer, they can skip it, but if they skip 3 of them, then it says "I don't think you're really an IT professional, get fucked" and then direct them to Yahoo Answers or reddit or something
Something like "If I SSH into my server and see an `ilo>` prompt, what is the correct thing to do?" "1. Clearly your OS has been infected with malware. Send the server back to HP" "2. Check yourself before you wreck yourself" "3. Randomly mash the keyboard" "4. Ask on Server Fault without doing any research"

So, I figured out (finally) and confirmed with the TWC tech that came by today that it's indeed not my hardware causing my internet troubles...
Apparently the node's over-provisioned since there's a lot of customers in the area with the Ultimate package, so there's not enough bandwidth...they're doing upgrades next month to correct the problem.
@MichaelHampton I suspect I'm in the same boat. I have coax to the node, and they run fibre from there. Most of my neighbours are older and their kids have moved out. Not many families with bandwidth hogging kids.
So after not going to thedailywtf for about a year I checked it out again today. Anndd it validated my decision to stop reading.

So this is my current situation:
I was meant to have an important site induction on Friday, with 4 other people from other companies. One of our clients asked me to come to their office, in another city, on that Friday. So I re-organise the inductions with everyone to be on Thursday instead (and they have rescheduled things around this). 4 hours after rescheduling everything, the client now tells me that they want me there on Thursday and *maybe* Friday

Mainly because he's disorganised and never puts anything in his Outlook calendar
I booked him a meeting for a day cos his calendar was free and he goes "oh no! I'm in Perth that whole day!" "But.. you've got an 8pm appointment at Carlingford!" "Yeah, I'm flying back in at 7pm" (Perth is like a 5 hour flight)
So he' flying to Perth that morning, taking advantage of the -3hrs timezone difference, flying back in at 7pm and none of it is in his calendar except his 8pm Soccer training
Oh and this is on this Wednesday so chances are I would have jsut come into the office, he wouldn't be here and he'd be uncontactabel cos he's in the air
@MichaelHampton We did talk about getting an office secretary to just answer calls and book things and shit like that but we decided that the money could be better spent on hiring a training and documentation manager

When I tried Unturned on my Windows 7, I get around 50~60 FPS
But when I played the game on Windows 10 Insider Program, I get much lower FPS

@jscott funny you bring that up. The interviewer asked which versions of Windows I've used. I said "NT4 up to 2012 R2"
He paused and said "...you haven't been in IT that..long - is that something you played with on your...own?" I replied "Sadly, no - when I started with my current employer they had 15 NT4 domains, I'm down to 1 now."
So I'm starting next week on project "Go nuts with the certifications". I've downloaded the DoD 8570 track and will be self-studying everything and trying to knock out the following: CISSP, CISA, CAP, SSCP -- my goal is to be completely done with all of these by the spring of next year. Why? Because I needed something interesting to blog about.
@ewwhite Yes, deadlines are a WSUS thing. The GPOs control Windows Update scheduling, with or without WSUS. And yes we have large WSUS repos. But I only have 7/2003 (quiet haters)/2008R2/2012R2 for OSes. SQL updates are a disk hog too.
I know some people think they're a waste of time...but for me I look at it as a way to branch out into topics that I don't encounter on a daily basis. I won't walk around afterwards with an Outlook signature 50 acronyms long....just like the learning process and the feeling of accomplishment at the end.
Also, anybody on Android with an AOL e-mail account is in for fun. Android has default settings to make it easy to setup your AOL account, configured for SSL and not TLS. AOL disabled SSL last week or somewhere in there. So now all those people have to go through and switch to modern settings (IMAP: TLS, SMTP TLS & Port 587).
@tombull89 :) we messed with a guy once at work that had gotten his A+ and N+ on the Helpdesk and was bragging about it and stuck the certification logos in his Outlook signature. He was a good kid, but we hazed him by changing his signature to have 20 different made up certification logos via GIMP.
