AND if I need blood work my doctor can't do it: I have to go to a lab and wait with sick people who may be there with god-knows-what disease waiting to get a test.
@Ward There are a bunch of labs here. Dr. says you need whatever test and you go to the one your insurance company says to go to or you damn well better pay for it yourself
for example, our database cluster is only "up" if: 1) It answers ping 2) It answers SNMP (host-resources) 3) It answers DB sanity queries 4) It answers DB Status queries 5) It answers business-logic trending queries
@LucasKauffman it all depends how do you define 'abuse' - if your dr is seeing too many people that keep on making follow-up appointments that they do not need, pushing your wait time for an appointment back, that's "abuse" in some ways
unfortunately in my country you can only have the government be the insurance company if you're a congresscritter/president/vice president/SCOTUS justice, or old.
It works tolerably well here, no one talks about the subjective question of when health care gets cut off. It depends on the person, the doctor, how pushy you are, whether it's an odd or even day...
Real "thorough" monitoring would be behavior testing. Which in my case we can do with some of the Ruby automated testing frameworks that can drive a web browser, and maybe one day we'll set that up :)
@LucasKauffman Another main issue is that some insurance companies are "for-profit" - but this doesn't mean they are bad! It can mean that they don't provide some services they should, but it can also mean that they get rid of inefficiency (which is good!)
@LucasKauffman - They could mandate that all the airplanes have steel reinforcing cages capable of 20G impact survival, but the truth of the matter is that you could only get 20 people in it, and it would be completely economically unviable
@LucasKauffman - short version of that story - some people outside the "city" limits don't pay "city" taxes, and as such shouldn't be entitled to "city" services
Our ambulance services however are provided by the county police. They will invoice the hospital you get taken to, who will invoice your insurance (who will deny the claim the first time as a matter of general practice because the Nassau County Police EMS is not an approved ambulance. You're supposed to lay there bleeding until Hunter Ambulance Service can get to you, or call for pre-authorization.)
but Im happy to contribute that maybe 6 percent of my wage to be sure I will never have the chance to die because my insurance doesnt cover an ambulance
@LucasKauffman I'm 100% dead serious - When I had my dead-short-stopping-my-heart thing I got a bill from the hospital 3 months later because Oxford denied the ambulance trip from my house to the ER.
And they actually had the brass balls to tell me I should have called for pre-authorization. Um, hello - ***I*** just had a multi-thousand volt shock knock me on my ass, and my buddy called nine-one-fucking-one, not your pre-authorization hotline.

Yeah, the typical conservative rage against so-called "socialized healthcare" is amusingly sad. However, I'm still against most of america's attempts at it because 1) Our scale requires slightly different methods than most European countries, 2) Our Congress couldn't properly implement toilet paper into their own asses with the use of both hands.

The Medicare system is fucking AMAZING and it operates with less than 10% administrative overhead.
Just start scaling it up by lowering the age of enrollment every few years. (that solves the only real problem anyone ever brings up: the system couldn't handle the influx of covering everyone ZOMG RITE NAO!)

It will only block their ability to find new torrents online and add them to their queue.
If they walk in with 5 torrents halfway done, and then link to the LAN via WiFi, wham, all of the torrents will resume and take all available bandwidth. A careful ...
