I don't frequent this place very often, who do you guys recommend?
I plan on reading some recent question history to decide
03:34
@Razetime A vote for me is a vote for the guy above me.

2 hours later…
05:09
@Razetime You can see comments on each nomination in the nomination phase. Not sure how much that'll help your decision, since some people (especially late nominees) hardly have any comments, but maybe it'll help you decide who not to vote for. Under the new voting system, you can vote for as many people as you like, you just have to order them.
TBF, it's a hard decision for anyone. I've known all seven of these guys for years and still haven't fully decided how to vote (the top 3-4 are hard to order).
@Razetime Take a look at our platforms and answers, and then vote for the person who speaks to you. We actually have some salient differences: Skooba, for instance, has said that they are largely fine with the current state of the site, whereas I have said that we need more variety if the site is to remain vital.
You can decide whether one of those ideas appeals to you, or whether one of the other five fits better.
@Adamant you could even say you're adamant that more variety is needed :D
@JackBNimble Am I eligible if I voted for you in 2016?
Jack is the only person who's stood in all five elections so far; people have had plenty of chances to vote for him.
05:26
@Mithical lol mithical
@hyper-neutrino hello there
@Razetime general kenobi
There, I voted.
05:51
@Razetime *waves*

Do we get fancy "I Voted" stickers?
Yes, they're called Constituent badges.

We really should keep the questionnaire answers in a separate post. I like the idea of integrating them into the nominations, but we've lost all of the comments. Some of that is crucial to voters making an informed decision. Oh well.
I don't understand the idea of hiding the comments even before the change
Just keep comments and allow comments still but have them all collapsed by default
You can still see the comments in the Nomination tab of course but it's unnecessary to hide them
Aye, Rand posted it the other day in here when we were talking about it
Hi election

09:35
What do you guys think about the idea of exit polls? Could we make that work? Maybe you can only view the polls 24 hours after you've cast your vote? And once you've viewed the exit polls, your vote(s) is locked in? Hmmm... Wonder how long it would take SE to implement something like that.
That's the problem though, currently votes aren't locked in
Yep. Hence, once you've viewed the exit poll, your vote is locked.
@ouflak I don't see why that would be a good idea
10:32
@b_jonas, It's more of a wild idea than a good one.
10:47
@ouflak I'm with b_jonas - what would be the advantage of this?
@nominees (any of you): are your nominations and questionnaire answers still editable now, during the election phase?
Satisfying mind-numbing curiousity as to how things are going. And there's one other thing against the idea working: chat. There nothing stopping anybody from coming here and posting, "Just looked at the exit poll and such-and-such has got a commanding lead! This thing is over."
If not, that'd be another disadvantage of rolling questionnaire answers into the election page. People who nominate late have less time to write up their answers. I suspect @SQB doesn't really have so little to say about the questions, just wrote short answers because of time constraints.
@Randal'Thor yeah
Questionnaire too
Good.
@ouflak Primaries sort of play that role, in sufficiently large (>10 candidates) elections.
But the primary voting system is different, so someone could be ahead in the primaries and still lose the election.
@Randal'Thor The problem, as you can edit, isn't so much of not being able to update answers. It's not being able to comment on them, so no feedback/criticism
3
10:58
@GWarner And the fifth option "Can you repeat the question?"
Like I didn't get a chance to read Adamant's answers before comments were locked. Now I don't have any "proper" channels of asking questions about them. Sure I could post it in here but then it's out the way
@Randal'Thor I would have probably stood in more had I not won... :p
11:23
@TheLethalCarrot or on the wiki or something
The wiki?
@Randal'Thor yup they are now. I think right when the election launched they were not.
Sorry, I mean on the meta\
That would mean either starting a new post or abusing the announcement post. Neither of which are great
We could start a new meta question where the mods will post answers to questions that come up in chat, and perhaps another meta post where users ask questions to the mod candidates or give comments. And perhaps whatever the existing mods and mod candidates want for discussing how they could work together moderating.
I don't think the announcement post should be abused to this, though if you have a question about the election process in general, you can ask there.
And for simple fast questions, this chat room works of course.
11:47
Not everyone is pingable in this chatroom.
But I can do a superping to bring all the candidates in if you want.
If the network expectation is still that no user has to participate in chat, then there still needs to a secondary option for exposure. The questionnaire meta post used to fill that role.
After I rank the candidates in my ballot, it auto-saves and that's all I need to do, right?
There's no "Submit" button or anything I need to push?
12:08
@Aurelius nope you are good to go.
there is no submit because you can change your choices
12:19
Okay neat :)
12:39
@Skooba I would still like to see a big "SAVED" or a dummy "Submit" button
similar to hwo google docs lets you click save, even though it's already saved your document 28 thousand times this minute
@AncientSwordRage yes that would be helpful
Pretty sure there's been a Mother Meta suggestion about that, but I can't find it rn
@Randal'Thor Or we can just invite a user to this chatroom if we ask a question.
It's not clear to me what privilage I need to invite someone to a chat room, but it seems I can invite anyone who already has a chat account if I am also in the room.
I believe you need 100 network wise rep to invite someone, as it creates a chat room and makes you an RO, both of which require 100 rep
12:57
Too much Jack is a bad thing. That is why it is BEST to take JACK in MODERATION.
nice.
13:19
@Mithical Did I win in 2016? The answer is no. Victory or nothing!
Now to start my scorched earth smear campaign.
@JackBNimble I don't know about you, but I've heard that one of the candidates is a poisonous vegetable :P
I was thinking the exact same thing.
And I heard another candidate is a doggie treat for amateur detectives.
And another candidate is in the pocket of Apple Computers.
And another is refusing to be persuaded or to change one's mind.
I think one is from the same source as the last one
And then there is the guy who is just a structured query.
one is "a books" backwards.
13:26
And finally there is one that is just a supremely terrible choice.
Please, Jack, I am right here....
I don't want to hear it snack boy.
@JackBNimble Last time I checked, I wasn't running in this election :P
o wait I'm the snack boy, I thought that was SQB
Huh
Not one but two candidates are a doggie treat for amateur detectives!
13:33
---strikethrough--- strikethrough
I never use strikethrough.
mine just goes from Scuba Steve to Skooba. I went with skooba because phonetically it should be pronounced the same and it has my real life initials in it.
but I dont mind the association.
Scoob and the gang always won in the end!
That is because literally everyone they went against was an old man in a costume.
which really says something about that economy, all those old men with enough wits to trick an entire town and enough intelligence to build those contraptions... they should be scientists, professors, doctors, or executives! not trying to rob a small town
oh and if we go by site age, you are the old man, Jack...
Do you know what else is old, YOUR FACE! Ahahahahahahaha :|
Sorry about that, things got ugly in this campaign real quick. And I'm not just talking about your sister...
13:46
@Skooba I think about that every time I see your username, dammit.
So now you want to change it to "diamond a books" backwards?
@Randal'Thor haha knew you would get a kick out of that.
@Skooba cough Jack isn't the candidate with the longest site tenure ...
Although he probably is if we only count amount of time on the site without being on suspension.
@JackBNimble first my mother and and now my sister, when will the mud slinging end!
@Skooba When one of you gets a diamond.
When I looked at our profiles, I matched the other candidate with a long tenure, although mine is unbroken.
13:49
@Randal'Thor Skooba dnomaid has a certain ring to it.
@JackBNimble Just fifteen days in it.
I went by user ID, didn't bother to check the time difference before.
@Randal'Thor don't forget the blue font!
I don't know the exact days, but when I click on our profiles, they both say 10 years, 3 months.
You can hover that "10 years, 3 months" to see the exact join dates.
@Skooba And Sachin Shekhar says "senior most" in the candidate statement.
13:58
There are a lot of things in that statement of dubious validity. It is perhaps by accident that one appears to be true.

14:28
Time for some more of the tough campaign questions. We'll see how elusive the candidates are.
@Skooba Yes or No. Have you ever tried sugar or PCP?
@JackBNimble Yes!
but now you don't know if I mean both.
I'm sorry, I don't remember asking for a long winded justification of your rampant drug use, a simple yes will suffice.
since when has rampant drug use disqualified someone from public office?
Since NOW!
so we have confirmed at this time at least, one drug user and one killer robot. Jack is really getting the inside scoop! I bet it's because he's a blogger
14:40
Speaking of blogs, The Science Fiction & Fantasy Community Blog recently endored Jack B Nimble as their choice for Moderator.
The New York Times is expected to soon follow.
@JackBNimble I think we need to trace their financing!
clearly some deepstack money involved XD

1 hour later…
15:49
@Skooba A deep investigation has revealed that the financing comes from ... drumroll ... one of the current moderators.

16:04
@Randal'Thor I knew it!! Corruption all the way down! I plead the 5th on the whole matter.

1 hour later…
17:31
Also "Skooba" and "SQB" sound rather similar. Is one of the moderators trying to nominate twice?
Maybe that's why they waited almost until the end to nominate a second time, they thought everyone would notice, but the users said they should nominate so it became clear they didn't realize.
That depends on your pronounciation. The capital letters suggest an acronym (and according pronounciation).
Or they're trying to hide that they're just a squib trying to venture into the magical high society.
In any case, it makes no sense that the noun for pronounce is pronunciation without an O.
17:52
> I vote for Skoob!
> Is that Skoob A or Skoob B?
A scoop full of Skoobs.

5 hours later…
22:51
@b_jonas A regular ping will only notify the user if they've been in that chatroom recently.
