@ZachSaucier Probably time to plup in an IPS monitor. :P
@Johannes UI developer always sounded like quite a broad title to me. What sort of products?
@johnp If you like illustration then do that. Don't waste your time getting good at what you don't like. Just work on what you love and get good at that. There's competition but if you put in the effort then it'll be worth it.

What does designer need to know to design template to be printed on notebook's page?

1 hour later…
12:56
@Boris_yo could you be a bit more specific? What kind of notebook?
13:13
@marcusdoesstuff I have nice monitors for my desktop but it's dead right now :(

Hey guys, I posted a question here: graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/62750/…. I hope that anyone can help me. We made a layout in photoshop. Now
I wanted to give the space between the text and an object above to the html programmer. He says he needs the space from the textbox to the object. But here is the problem: thetextboxes are different. The box in photoshop is not so high like the one in html. Has anyone an idea how I can give him the right space that it looks exactly the same? I postet a picture unde the link.
@WeareBorg as per my comment, I think you need to fiddle with the element's padding manually
@Vincent: Thank u for your answer! Can u explain me how it works? I tried it with a negativ top padding but it didn't work
@WeareBorg I'd've posted if I knew of a better or more accurate solution, sorry. :)
Hello everybody
@Vincent: Thank u for the idea ;)
13:34
Think I got inspired by an article I read yesterday and have a great idea for this week's challenge. Really hope people show up for it
hey Ryan
13:51
@WeareBorg maybe reducing the line-height works?
morning
morning darth
is it just me or is anyone else disappointed in the level of questions we've been getting lately?
so everyone have a great halloween?
14:09
@Darth_Vader Scott, at least :P
lol it just becomes more and more apparent to me that few on here are designers and many have close minded views on what design is
@Ryan agreed
@Vincent: Nice idea. But what happens when the text is unfortunately in 2 lines? Then both lines stuck together with such a small line height. And it is not scaleable when I increase the font size.
How are u all giving briefings of a layout to the programer so that the position of the text is the same? Are u using the text box? Or how are u doing it?
Thanks for answers
I don't deal with programmers or web based design much
@WeareBorg for starters... If any way possible, try not to be hung up on exactly matching Photoshop--you're never going to succeed in that
a Photoshop mockup of a website is a tool, not an aim.
14:22
I need to get better at using my arm instead of my wrist. Really wondering if my desk height makes this more difficult
@Vincent: That's a nice advice ;)
can I ask for some suggestions on a site implementation?
no. -.- lol
well.. ok..
S.E. Chat Requirements say don't ask permission to ask :P
seriously @Darth_Vader you're going to leave because of a sarcastic joke from me? sigh.
14:42
@Ryan needed to clear my cache so had to exit
wasn't looking for a way to display information under a post line.. First line starts with date and author but lost in trying show software or specs below that
typical post design has author and date on one line then the next is social media.. Im stuck in displaying specs and I dont want to use a table
Are you stuck on coding or on design?
no got the coding down stuck on design
got a screenshot
ok will have one in a little bit
wow Tilt is pretty terrible user experience
14:56
tilt?
Tilt.com
just bought a shirt for me and my training partner that goes to support Cancer research. Had to ask on IG where I saw it how to order two sizes. The response was order then order again and they'll make sure its one package
Then when ordering there was no Confirmation / Double Check. Enter credit card info and bam, done, nothing saying it went through or confirmed or anything. Got email receipt though
15:28
@ZachSaucier I've been looking at monitors for my home desktop. Probably going to be an IPS. Ultra wide, curved gsync maybe? Hah

Q: Would incorporating sketch looking elements into a technical piece be out of place?

RyanWhen designing technical documentation or video would hand-drawn sketchy elements seem out of place? For example here's a Raspberry Pi, and let's say I want to indicate a particular component. I could use a Vector, almost mechanical element: Or I could use hand drawn looser looking element: ...

@Ryan nice Q!
@marcusdoesstuff thunderbolt monitor for the win.
@Vincent eh concenred people are going to take it to be asking about feedback on the quick mockup I made. Like Amont and even you to some extent did
If my stupid internet would work I'll edit my question to try and make this clear
good point
improving answer
my actual piece is animation I'm overlaying on the video I'm working on. Thought if I even mentioned animation or video though it would get ignored and/or closed so left that part out
Im gonna edit my question with your picture Vincent lol
16:12
updated my answer
@Ryan ooh, just deleted it
I got it already :)
welcome :D
@ryan are you going to animate the 'drawing' of the oval?
if so, consider adding a sharpie sfx or something the like
sharpie sfx?
its already animated
I did 4 hand drawn animations in this one to indicate components, have 2 more hand drawn pieces to go
oh sound effects. No, there's background music and voiceover
16:16
then still :)
Here this is what the animation looks like
it stays on after as the video continues.
where in previous videos I just had a vector square basically form around whatever I needed to highlight, or even a circle just fade on
this looks good :D
Since I've been learning frame by frame animation I thought I'd put it to use, but not sure if I'm using it to keep myself interested or if it does work. I think it does :\
I tried to do animations like those in Flash way back when. Was quite the pita to make
is yours layer masks revealing each piece or drawn frame by frame?
16:27
@Ryan yup
which? lol
frame by frame
nice! that is a lot more intricate than what I've done
for the drawings at least. The photographs were easier
tx :)
hmm @Vincent think I should just remove the pictures entirely from my question? Is it just confusing people to think thats my actual work? Amont even after my edit seems to think so
16:39
@Ryan I don't think you should. You might want to remove the critique tag, tho
What do you think of it now with the picture removed, critique tag removed, and edited? I can always roll back (or you can)
sniff my beautiful picture ToT
:P
Much better, leave it like this I'd say
and now I think Amont is upset so downvoted it :\
Possibly :/
16:59
@Ryan my lackluster GPU appears to be the root of that Premiere issue, switching from hardware to software preview rendering seemed to resolve it
at least you got it resolved
yeah, I can just do the transformation last before rendering too
what is it? a trade show display mock or something?
a silly YouTube video for a friend
but what are you putting the video on using the corner pin?
17:11
6 videos, one for each green box:
Wait if they're just straight why aren't you just using Scale and Position for them?
they are slightly not straight there but they won't always be like that either
ah okay

Q: Migration to Super User vs Close As Tech Support

RyanI've become more aggressive lately in Migration to SuperUser and want the community's input as to whether this is welcome. Even before I became a mod I found it odd that we have a Close Reason that says, "This belongs on SuperUser.." well then why not flag / migrate it to SuperUser. Recent examp...

1 hour later…
19:17
@marcusdoesstuff Thanks for your wise words :) I'll do my best
19:28
@joojaa since I see you answered the question on SuperUser, do you think its okay that I migrated it?
I made a Meta question discussing it as well if you want to chime in
@Ryan No problem superuser is fine
I got a yearling badge for it :)
hi
i have a question about something I am working on, kinda need a suggestion on it
so i am designing a poster for an event coming up at my work and this one is for volunteers, I can't think what should go on the empty space
19:43
text? I have no idea, I don't even know what the event is
just an annual get together kind of an event
i am switching between :"we need you/heroes" and something like that but it just doesn't make sense
@AnujKaithwas I don't think I can offer you much without knowing a lot more about it. Looks nice so far though
oh
well let me try
it's an annual meet that we have at work, there are activities followed by a formal dinner party at the end of the day
they need volunteers who could do some work and take the load off from the organizing comittee
Then say that?
19:58
sorry?
i was thinking of typing a message using some typography like, "we need you to be a hero, gather arms and volunteer"
i don't know :\
damn
