Yep, anyone who invested in GM and only GM and held while it deteriorated to oblivion lost "all their money." Would you say that's common? If it isn't obvious, my gripe is the assertion that you either invest in the index or you lose all your money. Which isn't true. Its one thing to underperform an index (after fees), it's another to "lose all your money." A lesser gain is not a loss, it's certainly not a loss of all your invested capital.
