@Ryan done, thanks!
@Wolff we have similar issues here.

@Scott I read a answer on meta which says you can ask "Is this font too big or small to be read". I really don't consider it an opinion based. There are always people who agree and disagree. But bad is bad, and good is good and if good is more, it isn't opinion based.
@Wolff I will test it and will let you know soon.

2:10 AM
@Wolff we have infographes, graphistes, designers graphique more commonly where the first two are technical training in college, the 1st being more oriented towards prepress and production, and the 2nd being more concerned with the creative aspects
And then the 3rd is a university training (where I'm from, college and university are sequential) typically admitting from the 2nd group and looking to push conceptual boundaries
But you'll also have weird hybrid job titles like *designer-infographe" because "info" was introduced as a prefix when computers became part of the picture
And we have a registered graphic designer title now on top of it

6:32 AM
@Emilie It all sounds very similar to what we have here. Technical school, university and art academy are three semi-independent institutions. It is a bit of a mess.
Like you added "info" when computers came, we added "media". Both words are kind of superfluous.
I don't mind the diversity, but it can be hard to work together when the professions are not well-defined. A common conflict for me is when I'm doing prepress for a creative designer. I just want a pdf that works. The designer is only interested in the visual aspect and thinks I'm responsible for the technical stuff (like color profiles, resolution, bleed, safe zones etc.).
When I'm designing I'm thinking about the technical stuff from the beginning.

@Vikas Uhm... I didn't mean to offend, but from the tone of your reply, I take it that I did. I'm sorry if that is the case.
I just wanted to point out that, moreso than Asking and Answering on the main site, critique in the Looking Glass is a bit of giva and take: people are more willing to offer critiques to your work if you offered them some to theirs in the past. And yes, the 'Glass is low-traffic.
But, please, if you feel that there are 'traitors', please take an effort to talk this out. If I can help with that, by all means let me know. Animosity is never good, we've, uh, been there.

11:25 AM
@Vincent So that means I shouldn't ask for feedback in Looking Glass? Because I'm not that experienced to offer feedback on experienced designers in Looking Glass. I consider myself a beginner. I would like to do but I'm not at that level and neither it is much active. Very inactive.
So I don't think I could be a good part of give and take. I'll probably be banned again. I need feedback. I really need and it really helps me. But as you say I won't get much feedback, is there any other platform where I can be happy? (if you know)

11:55 AM
@Vikas you will never be suspended or banned for asking a question or requesting feedback on your work. Even if you do it a lot. You will be suspended for: repeatedly doing things you were asked not to, antagonising other users, obnoxious behaviour, misusing the system (e.g. rep farming), bad behaviour, etc
I'm not saying you did any of these things, they're just examples.
Take these points to heart @Vikas:
- do not be afraid to ask questions or admit you do not know something
- do not be afraid to take more than you give
- do not be afraid to be yourself and to speak out
BUT
- do not ping users unless they are in the room, especially if they said they don't want to be pinged
- do not feel entitled to feedback or answers
- be patient, sometimes we don't have time or don't feel like answering

12:33 PM
@PieBie Last I pinged a user was Scott, and it was possible reason for being banned. But Scott didn't explicitly tell like Do not ping me again. I remember he said something like "You may ping but I don't prefer it". So I don't find myself totally at fault. It should have been forgiven.
@PieBie You will be suspended for: repeatedly doing things you were asked not to this does contradiction? you will never be suspended or banned for asking a question or requesting feedback on your work. Even if you do it a lot

I wasn't involved in the decision of the suspension, so I can't say for sure. But I do not think it was one particular thing you did, more your behaviour being annoying to some users.
But I think it's time to forget about that whole episode and start with a clean slate @Vikas. You are very welcome, and we'll warn you plenty in advance before putting you in the time-out box again.

@PieBie I started with a clean slate. And before I was banned 2nd time, I guess my behavior was quite improved. All 4 of them didn't warn me. I was banned for things that weren't done deliberately.

1:38 PM
@Vikas If this makes you feel a little better, in my case, after more than a year answering questions with some quality, something that nobody forces me but that I proposed myself for the love of my profession, I was indirectly accused of ignorant and when I tried to defend myself, I won a week of suspension. Nobody has given me any explanation, except some user who showed me their concern and support.
In any case you do not have to worry too much, personally I see a noticeable decline and some level of mediocrity in the site in general. Nobody is doing anything about it, on the contrary, if possible they feed this situation with low level actions, except for some user that from time to time brings a certain quality.
Personally I have abandoned all types of action on the site, except answering a question that doesn't require me too much time and deepening and feed The Looking Glass with some side jobs.

@Danielillo I'm very sorry to see that your activity has declined so much after that episode. I understand, but still I'm sad about it.

@Vincent I wanted to thank your post on Meta but I couldn't because my account was suspended. I do it now, thank you very much, I appreciated, at that time it was a good personal help.

welcome, glad it helped. :)
And... if there are things going here that don't sit well with you, remember there's always this place and meta to talk about it.
And there's soon to be an election that will want candidates. nudge-nudge, wink-wink

You can also always ping a moderator to discuss in private... which I wish moderators would also do more with users. I try to when I have time and can.

1:57 PM
@Danielillo Their support is also not very professional. They didn't reply to my objections. Even if they were not right objection, they should have replied. But as I said, it feels like they targeted me. The reasons they gave me second time broken me completely. 1st time was expected, 2nd time was totally unexpected.
@Danielillo I would also like to see it.

@Vikas I do not wish to shame you in public but I am not going to sit idly by and listen to you slander and lie about the moderation team either. We acted VERY PROFESSIONALLY with you and have given you multiple chances

@Vikas if you have a problem with the way the mod team handled things, talk it out with them and don't post public comments about them like this

@Ryan multiple chances is wrong. I don't want to argue, but it's not right.

these moderators are humans and volunteers. They have feelings, lives, and other work. As do you.

@Vincent okay.
Let's end it.

2:01 PM
You want to do this in public? Sure let's go. How long was your first suspension AND what did we ask of you in that suspension?

Could you guys please do this in a private room?

@Ryan You asked me to read and understand rules in 7 days.

Nope. Your first suspension we asked you to read and understand rules and it was a single day suspension. 24 hours. Thats a very reasonable request.

@Ryan Oh you made it very easy for me by reminding it was 24 hours not 7 days.
@Ryan So now, I read a few answers and a few guidelines. I couldn't digest them fully in 24 hours, even in 7 days.
@Ryan Now let's talk about other 7 days.

Sure.

2:06 PM
@Vincent The's nothing like shame in it for me. I'm open to everything. But it's a bad experience to you, I can stop it. No point in discussing in private.

What did the second mod message, for one week say?

@Ryan I pinged a user, I posted something on meta, I didn't read rules, I asked a question in Ink Spot.

Okay so this sounds pretty fair and reasonable?

@Ryan No very really. This thing killed me.

I believe we also gave you a very big suggestion on that email as well that we may not be the right website for you

2:09 PM
This is the problem.
@Ryan Yes, but you were very rude. I expected you a company like Amazon and Google and Microsoft.

> You once again pinged for help in Looking Glass. Today you asked a question in InkSpot which we've also asked you not to.
>
> Then you took to Meta about it to ask things that we have outlined in our Critique Guidelines. Those Critique Guidelines are the very thing we asked you to read during your 24 hour suspension.
>
> We are now putting you on a one week suspension.
>
> Please note there are many other sites available for you to post a design and ask for feedback on it. We are not that site. We are a Question and Answer site. If you have a specific and answerable question than post it

And that was biggest mistake. Mistakes happen. I tried not to make mistake, but it happened.

which part is rude?

You once again pinged for help in Looking Glass. Today you asked a question in InkSpot which we've also asked you not to.
this
Please note there are many other sites available for you to post a design and ask for feedback on it. We are not that site.
this

In what way is that rude? Did we call you names? Did we lie to you?

2:13 PM
@Ryan Your feelings were rude. It all happened because you had already banned me for a day. And you expected me to understand everything in 24 hours.
@Ryan The way you typed could be better.

We expect users understand rules before posting. As long as you continue posting we will continue to expect you to understand the rules. We don't really care if that takes you ten minutes or two years to understand. We are going to hold you accountable the same either way.

@Ryan This is better.

Now do we want to discuss the third suspension? What was that for?

As long as you continue posting we will continue to expect you to understand the rules. Yes, but sometimes for some users things take time. I thought I understood, but I didn't.
@Ryan for asking a question without Sign Up.

...for creating a new account to get around the suspension we put you in.

2:19 PM
Yes. I did this because I thought it's not wrong. This is why I used my real name, not fake. Also, 7 days ban was *not right* to me at that time.

Further, had I posted it anonymously with VPN, you wouldn't care. But I was already hit list.
So to counter you wrong doings (whether it is wrong or not, I don't know much), I asked without sign up.

Look Vikas, I'm done with this conversation. We are not the best place for you to ask for feedback on designs which is what you seem to be after. There are plenty of other sites just for that. Reddit as multiple areas. Behance I believe has this. Facebook groups. LinkedIn Groups. Lots of places are specifically for getting feedback on designs. We are not. If you think this is rude, that's on you.
If you have a Q&A type of question please feel free to ask on the main site. That is what we're very good at and a lot of those other sites are not good for.

People on Facebook LinkedIn I contact often has lot of politics don't have as much knowledge as much as here. I didn't learn from Facebook LinkedIn feedback in 2-3 years as much I learned in last 6 months from GD SE.

Behance. That's little tought for me currently. I keep posting my projects there, but nobody cares. Because my design is not better yet. This is what I'm trying to do. To improve.

Okay, I'll try to improve again. But a humble request, it would always be better if you just give me a warning before putting a straight ban. Now I have warning for so many things already. But I don

holy cow the banner people are again emailing me trying to justify crazy specs

@Vikas at the end of the day.. it's merely a web site. That's all. No one really knows you. All they know is a username. Never take any of it personally. As I've posted before, the internet is full of dysfunctional people and you can't tell who is and who is not dysfunctional. So you really should take everything regarding the internet with a grain of salt. Like many things.. the perception of you over the internet is often far, far, far from reality.
For the record, I'm fine with being pinged if it's specifically for me... but just not for "invites" or "critiques". I don't really respond to those anyway. I mean you can still ping me, but I'm going to ignore it.
@Ryan why is 1600x900 huge for a web banner? if you think of 2x, 3x, 4x it's kind of fitting isn't it? Or am I missing something?

@Scott thats their banner area and where ours will be displayed

6:51 PM
@Ryan Oh, it's not even the same aspect ratio.

@Ryan ... right .. now think 4X... 400x225 times 4 = 1600x900. I'm assuming the variation in aspect ratio is because they will allow a 16:9 ratio there.

So you would be comfortable designing a single ad at 1600 x 900 and then seeing it displayed at 200x230?

If it's for a web banner.. yes... That's what retina and 4k displays require for a better appearance.
It would seem to me they merely want the 4k image size to accommodate high pixel density displays.
And you know as well as anyone that with the 4k size they can create smaller sizes that still look good. While the inverse isn't really true.

Yeah I get that but you can't display that tiny as well. Text will look minuscule if you don't plan for it to be seen on say a normal 1920x1080 display as well.
Lets try it a different way, all it says in their media planner initially is "Your banner is 1920x1080"

Agreed. I guess they are assuming you "plan for it" :) That's why they have that last couple sentences you quoted

7:02 PM
that was after much arguing and them apparently letting others know because I informed them. Popular banking had unreadable text on theirs for this very reason

I'm not stating their practices are right or correct. Merely that I think I understand what they are asking for..... and they do appear to be making assumptions that you know the retina-size image will be scaled down (which is a mistake to assume)
So.. I'd design vector at 400x225.. then enlarge to 1600x900... or if raster.. design at 1600x900 while viewing (additional window) at 25%.

thats the page unedited from their media planner
you think thats an appropriate way to give the specs?

Yeah.. LOTS of missing info if you aren't aware of how retina/4k web images work. But then it's kind of common for advertising spec to leave out many things assuming anyone reading them understand some obscure production aspect, even if it's common.
It's a "lowest-effort" way to give specs. if your ad looks horrible because it has too much type and you designed it at 1600x900 and it's unreadable at 400x230.. that's really not their problem (to them) they already got paid for the ad. It's not how I'd run my business.. but it's also not uncommon among spec sheets to be lacking.

I would say they should just do 2x as a sufficient medium where the people on 4k Retinas won't see pixelated garbage but the people on standard office computers can read everything as well

What should scare you more.. is a spec sheet asking for a 400x230 image.. which will then be displayed on iPhones, retina and 4k/5k displays. I would agree that 2x is a happy medium.
Much like 3D tvs.. they are out there.. but I don't think 4k/5k displays are as common as those working on them think they are :)

7:21 PM
Nope. Much like open space offices and offices with table tennis tables. Media likes to show us them all day long but the reality of the world is very different

8:17 PM
@Ryan Lol. I know some people who thinks old school coffee makers doesn't exist anymore since nowadays everybody has espresso machines.
