ooo this place has been hopping lately

2:21 PM
heh just logged into my unsplash for the first time in probably over a year... and the current stats:
thats a single photo

3:03 PM
@Ryan wow! :D
hey @Ryan How have you been?

@Vincent pretty good. launched new company website. yourself?

Picking up again. Ooh, happy with the new site?

yeah definitely. and now that its in place I can start doing digital marketing which is long overdo. working on a small banner ad right now but then I've got two email campaigns to get on
@PieBie curious about your question about other "sister" stack exchanges. Is there something you're imagining about them that we're either currently doing or not currently doing?

sorry, I forgot. Are you still with the laser identification company?

yep
we're still working on SSL certificate for it. We were trying to do it before launch but didnt want to postpone any longer

3:16 PM
nice site
sleek and minimalist
oh! I like the integration of the video on the 'how to apply the decal' article

thanks!
I found the theme, built / customized it, and wrote every word and took every photo and video on it

@Ryan Not necessarily. I think especially with UXSE there's a significant overlap and it might be interesting to hear what's going on over there. For example, how do they handle Tech Support or Critiques?
:51415634 Nice. To the point and clear. I like sites without clutter :)

^^ that

Is that your arm placing the decal in the YouTube vid @Ryan?

sure is, and that was my car at the time of filming

3:23 PM
glad you got rid of the pale green? :)

@Vincent pale green?

the old identity and site had a green, right?

I thought you meant the car. Hi people

hmm not really. there was a little green on it but not much
but it wasn't mobile friendly, video was all static displays until played, and on the backend it was all hand coded.
now its in wordpress and I can make a landing page a lot easier which is what im currently working on

oof

3:40 PM
'What mockup is this', seriously? :O

Yeah, it's a bit depressing. No wonder clients don't always appreciate the amount of work it takes to make good design.
Like eating a nice meal at a restaurant and then ask the chef. What can is this?

nice analogy @Wolff

I tend to use food analogies when trying to justify myself to clients :-)

lol

"Send me the InDesign package" is like saying to a chef "nice meal, give me the recipe and tell me where to buy the ingredients"

3:54 PM

"I need a fixed price. I'll send you some text and images now and maybe some more later" is like saying "I need food for my party. We'll be 10 persons. Maybe some more will drop by".

maybe I should edit the example to be about food instead of clothing

@Ryan Exactly, I remember that answer.

im taking a minute to read this if anyone else would like to:
@Emilie you should star ^ for when you do have time to read it

4:34 PM
@Ryan Seems interesting (just scrolled quickly through it) but very U.S. specific. Would be interesting to see something similar for my region (Denmark). I think it would give a slightly different picture, but I can't be sure.

@Wolff you think? I'm sure especially the numbers and timeline are US specific but the general ideas seem pretty reasonable all over

@Ryan I'll read it more closely later.
The vibe is different.

I only read the preface that I linked which took a few minutes. At the end there's then 7 more specific chapters on this. I'm reading the first of those now

In Denmark we have (at least) 4 different kinds of people who calls themselves "Graphic Designers":
1. Mediegrafiker/Grafiker (media graphic designer). A craftsman education at a technical school. Sees themselves as belonging to the *working class*.
2. Designer. A creative/artistic education at the art school. Sees themselves as belonging to the *creative class*.
3. Grafisk Designer (graphical designer). A more business/target group oriented school. Sees themselves as belonging to the *business segment*.
these groups works with and against each other. Not always without conflicts. I'm curious if the same groups exists in other countries or if graphic designer is a more well-defined profession?
(I belong to group 1, but wants to be accepted as just as capable as group 2 :-))

@Wolff nope but thats not really what its about if you keep reading its more about the wide berth and loose definition and is attempting to give some guidance as to some of the new skills to be aware of
I'd be really curious for @Scott to read it because I know him and I have debated and agreed to disagree in the past about some of what a graphic designer is. Think he sees himself as your #1 and doesn't really consider any of the other numbers to even be graphic designers but ... artists, mixed media, creative directors, basically any title but graphic design. I could be wrong, or he could have changed his view.

5:08 PM
@Vincent I'm specially targeted. I know the traitors here.

@Vikas I don't think you are specially targeted. You just have a different, more personal way of behaving than many other users. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad that you have joined the site! Seriously. You have stirred everything up a little bit with your significant personality.
@Vikas Anyway, have you seen my answer to your question about placing images in Illustrator?

6:13 PM
No time to read t the moment @Ryan but I am interested -- I also think perhaps you have a more narrow view of what my opinion really is :) To me many times the key word is graphic. And that can alter my perception of duties or responsibilities.
I will read when time allows. :)
@Vikas I highly doubt you are being "targeted". You must realize that most of your questions are very much like a "poll" and as I've explained before, polls are very off-topic here.

6:24 PM
@Ryan nice site. You're lacking a favicon, just an FYI and the Products top level link doesn't go anywhere.

@Mᴏɴᴋᴇʏ oh thanks I forgot about favicon. Noted on my laundry list. Top level products isn't supposed to go anywhere. Wouldn't really make sense for us right now. We've got some more stuff in pipeline. Once launched I'll expand it

see you went WordPress, nice.
I've moved to Jekyll, Handlebars or pug
