@Vincent I can see how the question can be "reworded" to be more broad and on-topic(ish), but (imo) as it stands it's off-topic.

@WELZ Then we have to agree to disagree :)

yep. :)

Let's be blunt here: we get so much (imho) badly worded how-tos that I'm happy to see a question like this pop up

yeah @WELZ I'm not sure how this question is off-topic. We do appreciate that you commented though to explain your vote

What question are you talking about?

12:52 PM
What is our scope of questions? Maybe we can have a wiki post with everything..
@Wrzlprmft this

@WELZ I am preparing something in that direction. May take another week though.
Still, in this case, the good rule of thumb is whether it’s something that graphic designers are best at answering.

I'm not the only one that cv'ed.

Q: Should fee and price questions go on the Freelancing Stack?

go-juntaJust an opinion, what do you think: For the same reason Marketing questions should be toned down on GD:SE, I don't see why the "pricing" questions should be mixed with the Graphic Design Stack. They're very close to critique questions and at this point, might as well accept printing quote ques...

@WELZ There are some people who tend to vote to close almost everything in the close queue if they don’t like it.

I see the points made, I've retracted.

12:56 PM
@WELZ and as I mentioned to you the other day we are looking at others as well and discussing it in private. We're in no way singling you or anyone else out. Just trying to figure out how we can improve the site
seems maybe you guys just need a reminder we have a meta area with lots of conversations already

I kinda liked it better before I had 3k, I think I'll drop a bounty to lose it :D.

lol

@WELZ Just use your powers to go through the close queue and choose edit for every question that deserves it and we’re happy.

except Vincent, he's happy when his diamond disappears lol I figure February 2021 if the time it took me to get swag is any indicator

:O

1:01 PM
I'm just pretending that the darn thing isn't there
@WELZ that's not just a mod privilege
Any 'room owner' can do that

VW is looking to change its logo by next year: motor1.com/news/239478/vw-new-logo-plan

1:28 PM
what an odd move

1:43 PM
@johnp I disagree
I think they want to leave the diesel fraud behind
or at least appear as if they want to
good to see you here by the way @johnp
how's life been?

1 hour later…
3:13 PM
hi @johnp

good to see you too @Vincent @Ryan
i must have missed the diesel story! i thought they were referred to the callbacks over some fault

Im trying to find a new tripod or at least new tripod head. Also considering digital medium format

life is ok...overworked but off for a week
how've you been doin

@johnp It was very prominent in the news in Germany. Probably not so much in the US, since they do not care so much about pollution and similar.

and the VW diesel issue was very big news in the US

3:18 PM
@Wrzlprmft I see. I'm based in Ireland myself. Though I don't follow the news like I used to

1 hour later…
4:45 PM
@Ryan oh nice, what do you have in mind

5:02 PM
@johnp thinking Ill start with a new tripod, likely a Manfrotto carbon fiber. And finally get some filters which I've put off long enough
then looking at Pentax 645D for the moment until I can earn enough to warrant a 645Z.
Little concerned the 645D sensor is older than my Sony but the larger size and more megapixels should still be worth it. And waterproof

the manfrotto should be nice to have, especially if it's light. i got cheap light stands delivered home that i havent used yet cus they're ridiculously heavy haha
would you ever consider the fuji gfx 50s instead?
least then you'd be able to use your existing full frame lenses on it
with adapter

the Pentax 645D is 1/3 the price of the Pentax 645Z or Fuji GFX50

oh i didnt realise it was that cheap

considering my most expensive lens was a $50 find on ebay I don't think that's reason enough to go with Fuji
yeah the 645D has come down a lot in price so would let me get into medium format and start getting lenses since I want to do art festivals being able to print as large as possible will be nice

yeah that would be very liberating

5:10 PM
did you ever get your medium format film camera operational?

i did...and didnt

?

there is some problem with battery drain and it locks up constantly. i should be able to make a profit on it though. may swap it for a nice tlr instead
brought it out around the time of the snowstorm here a month ago and had lots of problems with it. was really disappointed. i dunno if you've ever tried using a bronica mf or similar body before but they're a nightmare to use. there is literally a list of scenarios in the manual that need to be true in order for the shutter to actuate
but it looks like the battery is the issue...hard to say. i think ill probably swap it for another mf camera at some point

nope only ever used a Nikon and Canon film camera

yeah 35mm is so much nicer to use. still have a lot of film that needs developing though

5:16 PM
Mamiya digital backs look pretty cool but man that does that get bulky fast
Mamiya RZ67 can be bought for pretty cheap on ebay and then could get one of their digital backs for it but it looks massive and not sure about the weather sealing

they're monstrous things lol
rz glass is supposed to be very good though.

yeah thats the main reason I started glancing at it was to be able to use other lens manufacturers

5:30 PM
Does this answer the question? :/

3 hours later…
8:01 PM
@johnp hmm think I just found a temporary option. Going to look at getting a high quality pano head. That will let me stitch photos together for larger prints. Still probably need a higher quality tripod at some point and eventually a water sealed camera but having massive photos will be fun and open up new possibilities

8:22 PM
yeah it would be a good solution for landscape in particular
that matthieu stern guy has a video on that i think
it's called a Rhinocam :D
promise me you'll call it a Ryan-o-cam if you get one
@Ryan

8:42 PM
watching now. i've talked to Mathieu on IG a bit. He's a nice guy

oh cool
i thought he used a pano head but looking at it again i think you can actually mount mf lenses directly

ooh I do want this and I will dub it the Ryanocam

excellent.

need to ask him which one he uses since there seems to be a few

maybe go by the mount you like best
a mamiya mount would be nice

hasselblad v mount
that would give you a nice selection id say

can switch to Mamiya
comes in either

for the 6x6 lenses ive read that mamiya can outperform hasselblad
no idea though

im messaging Mathieu to ask him how much the rhinocam weighs since it doesn't say. Might still need to get a bigger tripod/head first

i think i would probably choose that over a pentax if i were you myself

8:49 PM
oh yeah im really ready to order it immediately

haha what have i done

well it still doesn't solve the waterproof aspect
I really would like to not worry about rain or splashes

true

nice I can still get Pentax lenses for it if I want in case I do switch over at some point

though for travel or landscape shots at least you'd be stationary enough to have a cover or something
nice one
ooh works with fuji x

8:54 PM
@johnp Cover? Out in the wilderness? Where's that at?

been thinking of getting a small fuji... i was all for full frame then just figured id rather something more portable or discreet
i meant some sort of nylon cover or something you could just use while you take the shot

ohh
that's a huge pain when shooting manual
ive tried

why so
ah i get ya nevermind lol

yeah he says in the video the rhinocam is pretty heavy. hopefully he'll reply to me saying how many g it weighs

9:13 PM
1480g for the pentax...may even work out lighter overall

only problem is for a lot of my work this won't work
if its long exposure or there's water moving or any moving really
its good for mountains and deserts but not so much for lakes, rivers, oceans

i get what you mean
for long exposure rivers though i think if the exposure was long enough, the outcome would likely be the same for each part of the frame that you could still stitch
