@DevilsbestfriendisLunar If your party of 4 level 2 and 1 level 3 characters survived an attack by 8 giants then the DM is definitely weighting the difficulty of the giants down. If they wanted to kill you I don't think they'd have done this - it might be that they've misjudged it and not reduced the difficulty enough but it sounds like they're trying if it wasn't an encounter that wiped out the whole party.

@DevilsbestfriendisLunar Talk to him and tell him that he is fundamentally wrong about his DMing skills. A DM is a force of nature not the frikking predator.
And yapp, I know that type of DM. In my experience those are often very resistant to reason and have not single bit of a feeling about proper game design. And yea that's very important imo. Tell him, that he should take a pause from DMing and just play the game and experience it from the player perspective. I suspect that he doesn't even know how a good game looks like. Sorry, for the ranty aftertaste but DMs that think it's their job
13:51
@DevilsbestfriendisLunar TBH it pretty much sounds like your DM can't tell the difference between just being very very lucky and dealing with a high difficulty. It's statistically close to impossible for a level 2 party to win against that amount of giants.
Maybe he's just very stupid or... you didn't get the broad hint to run like hell. But to tell that you have to describe a little bit more. Was there an opportunity for an escape or were they just everywhere? Maybe it was planned as a plot hook to come back later. I can't almost imagine that a DM is THAT stupid. I mean yea the CR is broke

Yeah, I’ve told him before that he is fundamentally wrong about him DMing skills. Didn’t work he ignored me instead.
15:05
@DevilsbestfriendisLunar Mhm... that pretty much sounds like you should dump him as a DM. If he doesn't get that a game is about fun or just ignore that fact out of pure arrogance, you should send him a clear message by leaving the game. If that's not how you want to play the game but your DM doesn't want to play the game you want to play, you just don't fit together and should split.
That maybe sounds hard, but your opinions of the game are so fundamentally different, that I don't see any other possibility.
But talk to him about it. That his game just isn't fun for you and your friends.
If he the just tells you, that you are not worthy to play DnD... I can tell you that there are almost as many ways of playing DnD as there are DMs.
If it's a stranger, just dump him for good... if it's a friend switch seats. Let him play the game and learn how to be a better DM/person...

Okay, thanks for the help @Thekhileyan! He’s a friend and has played the game several times, I’m his usual DM though. He sometimes has one of my friends, which is like once a month.
16:38
My friend is like not the best DM, but we still manage. (I’m talking about the friend he sees once a month. I should give them code names or something)

Wanna see a D&D meme?
