If it is wrong, you can downvote it, but flagging is intended for content that is against the rules or is not even trying to answer the question. If the answer was "women r paid less cuz they r dum trololo" then you could flag, but this answer does try to answer the question and is well-written, regardless of its accuracy.

Yes frame change. And I’m not clear on exactly what content is good versus bad but I know SE is supposed to be more inclusive than in the past and the content in question seems the opposite of inclusive.

A good way to think about it is this way: If it was correct (regardless of whether or not it is), would it still be against the rules? The fact is, an answer that could be interpreted by a sexist as vindication for their views is not necessarily a sexist answers. It's for the same reason that an answer which explains that lower-income communities are often black communities is not against the rules just because a racist might use the answer as "proof" that black people can't keep jobs.

I was just pointing out that the answer does not break any extant site rules.

Not that it's correct (or incorrect).

SE is meant to be a resource for reliable information and the voting system is meant to make it so good information is valued and poor quality information is not, but when there are social or political agendas involved then voting becomes less of a good arbiter of the truth. If some Qanon followers started a stack and asked, answered, upvoted, and accepted answers all about pedo rings being run out of the basement of a DC pizza place, that would legitimize their falsehoods.

Then it's the job of people like us to downvote the bad posts.

The problem I see here is that a large number of people have upvoted this particular bad post.

I've been in situations like that. Had a highly-upvoted answer on Information Security (which was a better fit for Cryptography anyway) which gave patently false and potentially dangerous (from a cryptographic perspective) advice. My only recourse was to downvote it and write a comment.

It’s false but it’s apparently a widely believed falsehood. Imho the democratic process doesn’t work as well as I think most of us would like it to in cases like this

I don't see an answer which gives a non-sexist explanation for the wage gap as offensive. From my understanding, there's been a lot of research into this and it seems not to have any simple answer.

But unless I'm reading the answer completely wrong, it's just stating information (true or otherwise).

My definition of “facts” is true data. Falsehoods are not facts. Saying something is “just” a statement of “fact” does not preclude the statement from also being sexist (or bigoted in any way)

I don't think this answer is anywhere near as inflammatory as you make it out to be. It's not like holocaust denial where it's patently false. It's stating something that many people in academia believe is true, and many people in academia believe is false.
