@Joshua sad accident; regarding what should the pilot do, it's covered in the video; the video (report?) also attributes the probable cause to the two controllers and the pilot -- regarding the first go around, it makes sense, because if both planes go around, with the faster behind, it won't be pretty -- the initial go around instruction issued to the slower number 1 was not mentioned as a cause -- keeping the plane in the pattern, and using complicated non-standard phraseology are

@ymb1: I don't think the answer's right there in the video. Even given the advice I can't imagine anything I would say or do that wouldn't end up under "possible pilot deviation" and a lot of trouble. And that's the trouble with the question. I can't formulate it so that a better answer drops out.
