@ymb1 Had some delays in acquiring a worthy film scanner, but I finally managed to get one...I'm scanning this roll right now.

I have another roll with more photos of the same plane from a different angle...but scanning that will have to wait until tomorrow.

When the ATC controller says “transmit for QDM”, I’ve heard people respond by starting to count from 1 to say 4. Has this something to do with more precisely locating the position of the airplane for the controller?

@schn no, you just need to keep transmitting to give them long enough to look at the dial

the dial only points to the current transmission source: it doesn't hold its position when you stop transmitting

so if you just say "roger" and sign off, they probably missed it

round here we're taught to say "QDM" three times slowly instead of counting, but it makes no difference what you say

it would even work if you held the button down and said nothing, but then other stations on the frequency might get confused and talk over you
