Has anyone else heard about this drone delivery trial Google is doing? The UAS they're using for that is an unusual design: it looks a bit like a tiltrotor, but instead of rotating, it has both a rear-pointing prop and down-pointing rotors.

what's the question about the stall in the link ?
TomMcW

Looks like they are using a couple different types of drone. Are you talking about this one?
They also have this one
@DanHulme They have a video of the first one in operation
Dan Hulme
both of those are Amazon's, not Google's, but from memory it looks more like the first one
TomMcW
@DanHulme Oh, didn't read your message correctly.
@DanHulme This one?
Dan Hulme
17:14
no, the one I saw looked nothing like that
it was like a quadrotor, but with a bigger propellor as well (I couldn't remember whether it was a pusher or tractor configuration though)
I like the idea of having the cargo pod pull right into the body. It reminds me a little of Thunderbird 2
TomMcW
@DanHulme So what is Google delivering by drone? Have they opened up their own retail site?
Dan Hulme
@TomMcW they've partnered with Chipotle to deliver burritos on a university campus (I think it was Washington)
it was a trial and it was due to take place in Sept, but for all I know they delayed it
TomMcW
@DanHulme Burritos by drone. Gotta love that.
What's next? Dominos drones?
Dan Hulme
Dominos have released a marketing video of a hexrotor delivering pizza, but I don't think they have a real project
TomMcW
Have you seen the Dominos cars that are modified with an oven in the side?
Dan Hulme
17:26
nope
tbh I just hope Deliveroo stick around for a while
they are nuisances on the road, but I'll have my food delivered by a fit cyclist any day :-)

@DanHulme @TomMcW hello!
Dan Hulme
hello
TomMcW
ymb1
@TomMcW what's that? too small to be a mobile pizzeria
@TomMcW oh wait an auto driving delivery?
@TomMcW if it can climb stairs or take the lift, I'm fine with it lol
you know what, it would be cool if it can deploy a pizza carrying drone to your window
TomMcW
@ymb1 It's one of those little French swatch cars tricked out with a warning oven
ymb1
17:39
i wonder how many drones will end up being hostages
@TomMcW uha
TomMcW
@ymb1 I haven't met a single person that thinks delivery drones are a good idea
ymb1
@TomMcW I agree, transportation sector is the biggest employer in any place
TomMcW
@ymb1 I spend my whole day delivering people their Amazon stuff, so maybe it's just me.
ymb1
@TomMcW :D
TomMcW
Just watched a thing on tv where these guys had drones building a rope bridge
ymb1
17:49
@TomMcW suppose it makes it easier, I recall something like that is one of the earlier Gold Rush seasons, doing it with no drones wasn't easy
TomMcW
@ymb1 They had them programmed to fly in specific patterns to weave the ropes together. It was pretty cool to watch.
ymb1
@TomMcW this is the one
youtube.com/watch?v=CCDIuZUfETc
?
@TomMcW cool indeed
TomMcW
18:07
@ymb1 The one I watched was outdoors at a playground, but it's probably the same people.
Dan Hulme
18:33
I think it's a good idea
