I'm trying to put together a heatmap and some statistics about what areas are overflown by aircraft and how often. Do you know where I can find something like that, or alternatively some a data dump of something like FlightAware that will give me a year's tracks so I can process it myself?
I think approximate tracks from flight plans would be better than an ADS-B feed, because it would also cover oceanic areas not covered by receivers
this is for a work thing, so if the answer is "phone up FlightAware and throw money at them" that is an acceptable answer
@DanHulme flightaware already sells flight number history so assuming the archive the flight plan along with the that they would probably come to some agreement for a mass data dump
@ratchetfreak I'm not really invested in them enough to edit them (though if someone wants to I'd be OK with that) - they also don't cross the line to where I'd just blast the user as a spammer though he's definitely on the radar now.
but I think Im going to clear the spam flags on them if you guys think they can be salvaged :)
(they're the only two mod flags on the site right now, I like that number being zero dammit!)
@voretaq7 For me it's not really spam (there's no product to buy and not even any ads on his site), it just seems like someone who wants feedback on his ideas. SE might still be the wrong place for that, of course, but if they were rewritten they might be interesting. I'll see if I can do something with them.
