That's a great idea! It's not violent, and it's very effective.

I wonder if you can read an illusionary spellbook.
03:51
Hmmmmm......
Maybe
Read it, yes. Use it to prepare spells for the next day, no.

Ya, that makes sense. It would be overpowered if you could write and prepare spells in it.

Q: Can you safely assume that Beholder's rays are visible and audible? (based on rules / lore / novels / famous campaign streams, etc)

LisaSome context: We're running Dragon Heist and the party is facing Xanathar himself. This question actually was caused by this discussion about the tactics of a party trying to distract the Beholder and use that moment to execute an epic party combo against him. Basically, the plan is to force the ...

@JoelHarmon I don't see why you couldn't. WotC has gone on record saying that a spellbook can literally be any media, including tattoos on your body, etc. I think the only difficulty lore wise would be that to make a faithful rendition of the spellbook, the spellcaster would need to be able to remember all the spells in it.
A spellcaster wouldn't be able to prepare spells from their own self-cast illusionary spellbook, because it would only contain the spells they already remember, being otherwise useless.
But you could have a number of assistants whose sole purpose is to conjure vividly accurate images of the various spells you've learned, through illusions of pages of your spellbook.
And in under 3 messages, I've decided my next Wizard's spellbook will be composed entirely of Interns and Groupies.
"Which one of you had the spell with the zap-zap?"
"Lightning Bolt?"
"Yeah, that's the one! How did it go again?"

Q: How can I design fun combat encounters for a party traveling down a river on a raft?

Kris SciHistSo in my adventure, it is possible that my players will travel down a river, on a raft. The river itself is haunted and they will come across enemies. I already have ideas for some specific enemies that may attack them. Like skeletons on other rafts trying to attack them on their own rafts, or cr...

With the Insider pulling up again... I did go down a Rabbithole of internet research XD
(though, we still should find a way to ask about the Damnatio Memoriae of 4e on Wizard's site.
12:52
@Axoren My recollection is the spellbook is itself magical. If your forgery rogue makes as perfect a copy of a spellbook page as possible, fine inks included, it still won't be enough to re-memorize the spell from.
I think that was covered in an expansion book that mentioned that a spellbook doesn't even need to be a book, it could be a bag of stones with glyphs on them. It's not the PHB, and I currently lack the bandwidth to go looking for that particular reference.

Q: Is a normal wizard spellbook a magical item?

Groody the HobgoblinApologies in advance if this is a duplicate, I could (to my surprise) not find a question on this (there is only one for Pathfinder). The question is simple: is a normal spellbook in 5e a magical item or not? (Not asking about the Grimoire from TCE, nor about the Awakened Spellbook from an Order ...

It seems a spellbook is not itself a magical item.
13:20
Huh. Maybe I'm mixing that up with scrolls, which (at least in 3.5) were partially cast spells. Maybe I'm just too tired to be making definitive statements in chat like that.

Q: Can you activate your Extra Attack from the Bonus Action Attack of your primal companion?

DuhlAs stated in the title, I got curious about the interaction between the Attack action of my beast (which requires my Bonus Action) and the Extra Attack feature. Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. I am already aware of...

Trying to track down a video I watched a year or two ago. I feel like I found it via an answer on the site, but haven't had luck tracking it down.

But the video was about how to make your dungeons more engaging, and the video author actually created a dungeon as an example in the video. If memory serves, they started off with an example of a "boring" dungeon, then showed how to make it more engaging.

Things like loops, secrets, giving the party options, et cetear.... stuff like that. There are other videos out there like this, but I remember this one being really good and professional, s

@Wipqozn try googling 'Jacarding a dungeon the alexandrian'
that's the video
@AncientSwordRage You're my new hero
I'm glad that worked, I didn't even google to check first
oh and it was map crow
Brilliant. All I could find when I was googling online was just super clikc bait videos.
I really liked this guy since it was just nice, low key, and professional. Not overproduced or anything like that.
it's even about pathfinder somewhat, ah. Funny, since Pathfinder 2e is the campaign I'm starting.
only other DM experience I have was a biiiiit of mothership. Like a couple sessions. So been doing some reading, since I plan to make my own world and all that.

nice
Yup. I haven't played a tabletop in a few years now, but when I heard Pathfinder 2e released a second edition I took a look. Was super glad by all the classes existed in the core rulebook. So that turned into "Welp, time to start a campaign"
Tabletop is my favorite way to play.

Q: Can you combine the Blink spell and a readied action, to affect another creature on the Ethereal Plane?

Fork FrogIt certainly seems from reading the spell Blink, like it should be possible to ready an action, with the trigger being, "when I appear on the ethereal plane" and then using that action to effect/attack another creature on that plane. Or am I missing something? This other post, seems to agree thou...
