8:59 AM
MORNING ALL!

9:10 AM

1 hour later…
10:31 AM
@BESW YES! Exactly!

1 hour later…
11:40 AM
@SmokeDetector What does Blacklisted mean there? Bad answers in the past?

12:21 PM
@Trish It means they were manually added to smokey's blacklist for one reason or another.

1:10 PM
My new question is a bit of a ramble-athon. Any idea on making it clearer or making it shorter/splitting it up?

1:23 PM
@AncientSwordRage still trying to parse it. I think maybe examples are obfuscating your general goal
Is it that you want a system where you must use a mix of skills to clear an obstacle?

1:51 PM
There's chaotic evil and there's pours potions of madness and potions of polymorph into the city's water supply.

1 hour later…
3:06 PM
@NautArch could be
@NautArch yes, and reward the player from using their best skill first

Q: If Tasha's Mind Whip prevents a flying creature from moving, does the creature fall?

Guillaume F.A flying creature that doesn't hover and can't move must fall: If a flying creature is knocked prone, has its speed reduced to 0, or is otherwise deprived of the ability to move, the creature falls, unless it has the ability to hover or it is being held aloft by magic, such as by the fly spell. ...

i got banned from the sever and tourtment... anyone wanna guess why?
cause i asked how to write a will....

@Catofdoom2 huh?! which?
@Catofdoom2 you mean write one, yes?

@AncientSwordRage I'm thinking there's something that can be done with the die selections from savage Worlds combined with something else.

3:13 PM
@Joshua Isn't this Scarecrow's plot in one of the recent Batman films?

@Trish yes

@Catofdoom2 The answer is simple: "Hereby I dedicate all my worldly possessions to X once I am dead."

@Trish well they said they didn't want to talk about it and it made the enitre sever uncomfatibale and i was banned yesterday night which was a day or 2 after mind you and 4 hours after i asked the owner why they said because of the question

@Trish thats not a will
@NautArch oh ok?
@ThomasMarkov 'poison the water supply' is a common plot

@AncientSwordRage It was Batman Begins, Jonathan Crane injects a hallucinatory fear poison into Gotham's water supply.

3:16 PM
i feel dumb saying this but i felt like i was finally welcome somewhere... and then they banned me... it hurts my feelings alot more than it should

@AncientSwordRage something around balancing the different dice types with proficiency or investments of some sort.

@AncientSwordRage It is. It's a soldier's will. I have seen pretty much that plus a list of items that are the things that the wife was to get as a letter home from a soldier... that promptly was shot dead about 2 weeks later in Verdun.

Having two levers that are somehow "opposites" so you need to always balance your choices.

@NautArch ahh ok

GcL
@AncientSwordRage Poison pill, poisoned well, fruit of poisoned tree.

3:17 PM
i don't know how to replace them now

@Trish There are very few exceptions in the United States, and one typically must be at least 18 years of age to hold a legally effective last will.

@ThomasMarkov not techinaclly but yes but actually no

@Catofdoom2 One notable exception in some states is being legally married and under 18.

@ThomasMarkov Mind, that was a 1916ish French soldier of about... 25 if I remember correctly, but yea, you need to be of age to write one, and it needs to tell people that it is a last will and testament.

i uh... don't know how to replace them... they made me so happy in just the 2 weeks i was there. and now it's all gone

GcL
3:20 PM
@Catofdoom2 Always a new weird corner of the internet to discover. Have you looked into knitting. There's an awful lot of knitting groups all over the place, and some are pretty rad. Also, very soothing activity.

@GcL my great grandmother use to knit
one of the last things she actually did lol

GcL
@Catofdoom2 Could be one of the first things you do.

@GcL i've done a couple things in my life already. i played pinao a little. made a video game, had a girlfriend once. honestly i'm pretty far on the list of the things I want to do before dying

@GcL There are Metal Knitting Grandmas!

for how young i am thats good or bad?

GcL
3:24 PM
@Trish Are the grandmas metal? are they knitting metal together?

granted I still am not ready to die. i want atleast another couple years. but if my condition keeps worsening i won't likely get those lol.
i don't want to die
sorry

@GcL They knit heavy metal paraphernalia for their grandkids. Like baby bodies with KISS or Iron Maiden...

@Trish i'm almost 15 is that young for how sick i am?
i feel like the worst part is that it isn't my fault. if my sickness my fault i couold live with it or i guess die with it lol. but it was just bad luck. that makes me sad

@Catofdoom2 I don't think we can answer that for you

@AncientSwordRage actually, it really is just about combining at least two skills for any particular test. If they need to rank the dye for skill, than having to choose multiple skills will force them to choose suboptimal dice.

GcL
3:39 PM
@Trish Not what I was expecting, but pleasantly surprised.

@NautArch How do you prevent using the same skill/attribute situation and 'stacking deck' in your favour?

@GcL were you expecting grandmas listening to heavy metal while knitting pullovers for the band?

@Trish knitting with lanthanide needles and actinide yarn

GcL
@Trish Also different, and just as good.

We got a community check-in coming down the pipe soon? @Someone_Evil

GcL
3:51 PM
@ThomasMarkov I read that as community check incoming. Like, who writes cheques to this community?! Isn't time spent here penance enough? /S

Still thinking about that one. But I'm also thinking about the method of driving what you are doing to the game master, and the game master selecting your skills for you to roll on based off of that.
Otherwise, why would a player being sent advised to choose subwoto. There needs to be some sort of benefit if they are going to. But then they're always going to pick that optimal benefit.

@AncientSwordRage That'd be Heavy Chemist Grannies.

4:17 PM
@NautArch so some skills pass more easily, some skills give more rewards. Which is more optimal should be a tactical choices?
@Trish true! Still metals, right?

@AncientSwordRage oooh, I like that! Easy button vs increased value and risk

4:31 PM
@ThomasMarkov It seems the old sage spoke true. "There is nothing new under the sun."

@AncientSwordRage But I think you're on to something with making more than potential optimal outcome. Otherwise, players will naturally do what they can to optimize.

4 hours later…
8:05 PM
@ThomasMarkov I just realised Fin (my character) missed out on Fey Presence and Form of Dread to give Frightened to targets

8:32 PM
@AncientSwordRage "roleplay-wise my character's warlock abilities are being treated as something the other characters don't want to get too involved in."
lol
Says my wizard: "I have adventured with several warlocks; boon companions, good in a fight, many other sterling qualities. Always makes me more than a little nervous where their powers come from, I mean, you can't even really tell."

@Jack <cleric looks around uncomfortably>

9:04 PM
> "Oh, God, that damnable book better not sprout tentacles again, or I'm going to lose it."
— Sherri (played by @Mithical)
@NautArch even more so given my Warlock too thaumaturgy and guidance... 😁

9:21 PM
Separately, I'm still peeved at how fee rituals exist/spells are castable as rituals
Like Magic Circle isn't available as a ritual 🤷🏻‍♂️

@AncientSwordRage that looks off without the quote marks for some reason

@Mithical I often think quote marks and markdown is too much but I prefer it with both now you mention it

@AncientSwordRage too powerful for just a time cost

@NautArch true I 'spose
I have wanted to ask about it at one point...

But there are far too few good rituals

9:34 PM
Especially for my Warlock....
Do we need a separate tag for ?
I think @V2Blast may have just made it and added it to all 6 of the questions it's on. That's not normally how we do tags...

@AncientSwordRage we have one for Drow

We're up to nine

@NautArch If we weren’t stuck in the middle of a high stakes dungeon with timed events forthcoming we’d see Makaidos use a lot more divination rituals.

@NautArch true! They're a much bigger part of D&D though

Broooo chilllllll
Sorry Australia, but today is the day you learn about Duergar.

9:51 PM
There are several questions about duergar in multiple editions of D&D (albeit not nearly as many as for drow). Part of what prompted me to create a separate tag for them is that they're apparently not considered dwarves in D&D 4e(?), which means the tag won't always cover such questions.
When I notice a new tag (or in this case, create it myself) and it makes sense for the tag to exist (which I think it does, per above), I generally try to add it to all the questions for which such a tag is appropriate – at least as long as doing so is not too disruptive (and I don't think it was too disruptive here, given that it affected less than a dozen questions).
If anyone strongly feels that it shouldn't be a separate tag, feel free to bring it up on Meta. :)

@V2Blast It’s actually a pretty good candidate for a tag, I think. I personally would have gone with five today and six tomorrow, but 11 is not so bad for a one and done.

I think tags should arise more naturally as and when needed. They're not a categorisation system...
Thank you for not creating a svirfneblin tag. — Thomas Markov 5 mins ago
Give it time! I was on mobile so... 🤔
@ThomasMarkov I'd have held off until there's a new question and the asker finds it useful to create the tag... Not something I'd ever enforce but it feels like a good balance. 11 is probably a good threshold to make it worthwhile though.

@AncientSwordRage Yeah, I personally would not have created the tag, but now that it’s been done, meh. There are much bigger tags that I would like to see destroyed.

And by good balance I mean in terms of never making new tags and making a tag for every race/subrace/game term under the sun
@Glazius I posted that mouseguard question

10:07 PM
@AncientSwordRage I take the George W Bush approach to tags. “Read my lips: no new tags”, and then half way through the term realize new tags are sometimes necessary.

@ThomasMarkov hah!

Q: What published resource first introduced the duergar?

DavePretty much the title question. Specifically, I'm interested in when they first given a stat block (if there were allusions to them earlier). I think it was an AD&D module, but don't recall which one; though it is always possible that they were first introduced in Dragon, or an extension rule bo...
