Is a 1st-level counterspell that can only counter cantrips and other 1st level spells balanced?
mainsite seems unable to decide whether it's maintenance or not
01:33
@doppelgreener Probably DoS attacks again
Or a server somewhere throwing a weird hizzy fit

I made a Homebrew Paladin subclass. If anyone could review it that’d be much appreciated.
I had some trouble coming up with names for some features 😅
04:19
@TheDragonOfFlame your link sends me to the "new homebrewery" page
@TheDragonOfFlame Yup, need to fix the url.
05:44
@AncientSwordRage thanks anyways
@BESW we ended up switching from a sorcerer to a swordfighty person because A thought that was cooler and it made for a better fight scene
So turns out we didn’t need any of the attacks and the teleportation was solved by having R pop up from under the table and shout “POOF!!!!”
And we got to freak everyone at paradise beach out by walking down the levee in cloaks and weird clothes holding a couple of big bags and telling people we were working on performance art
Only one person asked what we were doing, though, which is a shame, but everyone looked when we ran screaming and waving swords across the strip of land that would be underwater if we weren’t in a drought

Sounds like fun!

Q: Can I ask a question on published designer intent?

Groody the HobgoblinIn a lot of answers, it would be helpful to explain why things are working as they are. For example that 5e is designed to leave much more to DM adjuction than earlier versions, because trying to cover all cases by the rules leads to rules bloat and makes the game hard to play. The games designe...

Q: Can I add a spellbook tag?

Groody the HobgoblinAt the time of this posting there are 1,406 posts about "spellbook" on the RPG wiki. This is an area, along with copying of spells, that is a common source of questions at least for D&D 5e, where it might make sense to have a flag to attract expertise, and it also is a general concept that could ...

@ThomasMarkov Hi Thomas, I saw that you edited my question about Dimension Door pretty immediately after I posted it. It also got a downvote pretty immediately -- in case it was from you, would you be willing to share if you see a problem with the question or soemthing I should improve about it?
13:14
@GroodytheHobgoblin I generally downvote “question for the sake of referencing in other questions” because it makes less space for users who are having actual issues with the feature at the table of play. Say we leave your question open and it gets answered. Later, someone has a question about dimension door that boils down to “what does dd target?” Do we close it as a duplicate of your question or actually address their real issue?
Additionally, your question reads like an XY problem, it really seems like it wants to be asking “does dimension door require a clear path to the target”, but I think we have that question somewhere already too.
13:47
@ThomasMarkov Thanks for the explantion!
What's a word/phrase for "tour guide" that doesn't use the word guide?
@BESW ambassador? Liaison?
14:02
Ox.lang suggest: escort, attendant, conductor, pilot, usher, chaperone, courier, cicerone, convoy. Though I'm not sure any of those are a one-to-one replacement
What's the context you want the word for?
Navigator?
Somebody on a long tour who keeps the tourists in line and entertained so the rest of the team can do the navigation, safety, etc.
Host will work for now. It's just a playtest.
Concierge?
14:26
@BESW usher? Jay Hulme uses that word for when he shows off parts of the church he wardens
@BESW “Guest wrangler”

@AncientSwordRage ushers are more for crowd management at events AIUI?
@Shalvenay could be... But not always?
@ThomasMarkov as opposed to be the regular in-house wrangler?
Just so you know, that link... allows me to edit it.
There's a share dropdown menu in the top right of the page
I have no idea how that site handles version management though
16:41
@TheDragonOfFlame Every now and then I see an anti-mage class and think "Okay, I have no idea how to analyze this - it's like an anti-goblinoid class or an anti-demon class." Might it be plausible to make half the powers anti-mage and half the powers life-based? Things like healing, animating, tree-magic, something like that?

Note that clerics, druids, and anyone else will be turned by Turn Magi - including the "mages who draw power from the World Tree" implied by the oath description.
I don't know if this subclass would be meant for players or for NPC mage-slayers - I know I wouldn't pick
Hmm, I suppose it makes some sense for them to be so anti-magical, if their cosmology is correct, since the sprout would be the response of the World Tree.
17:27
@BESW How does it make sense for massive bundles like the Bundle for Ukraine to exist? It sort of... doesn't make sense to me, in a way that I can't really articulate. It's not exactly that the people in the bundle lose money, since it's being donated to Ukraine anyway.
I also wonder if it actually reduces the amount of donation to Ukraine (comparing with all the creators donating all proceeds to Ukraine, not that that would have happened), but I'm not sure.
17:54
@Phoenices I did have similar thoughts, as I was worried it’d be too specific. However, like you, I examined other subclasses: some of them are anti-fiend, some are anti-aberration / elemental, some are anti-undead, etc.
For the turning other mages granted power by the World Tree, that is why I put “of your choice” in there, I couldn’t really think of a better way to word it 🤷‍♂️
I do agree that it is probably too focused on anti magic, I’ll try to come up with some other features
18:33
@Phoenices donations in exchange for things (like marathon sponsor ship) doesn't make much sense either
19:32
"Turn Magi" is probably too strong a feature. The reason Turn Undead-type effects can work is because they usually target creatures that individually aren't very strong (and lots of very strong Undead often have Turn Resistance or immunity). But being able to "Turn" any spellcaster is pretty powerful. At the very least, I'd suggest maybe making it a "caster repeats the save at the end of each turn" type effect, but the real fix I suspect is to just make it so it only targets one creature at a time.
19:54
@TheDragonOfFlame is the World Tree the primary, "officially blessed" source of arcane magic in the universe, with mages that reject it being rare? or is arcane magic itself the problem, not (in-the-world's eyes) corrupted expressions of it?
20:23
@Shalvenay It’s more of a fringe group of religious fanatics who believe this. Other people simply believe that there is a magic tree that grants antimagic powers, not that it is the source of all magic.
The sprout of the ‘Tree of Worlds’ is a physical tree that grows in the capitol. People who gain magic from this source must eat the fruit. So outsiders argue that the fruit is magic, but not any sort of greater power, just another way that magic can be granted.
20:59
@TheDragonOfFlame ah. I once tinkered with the idea of wayward witch-hunters as a campaign theme, might bring it back at somepoint
