Emmet Bryne wrote a twitter thread about why Cubicle 7 is making a D&D version of Doctor Who alongside their existing Doctor Who RPG. (Short version: D&D is so effective at making its audience exclusive that Cubicle 7 sees a D&D version of the license as the only way to get those players to consider their games.)
Bryne also says that the "Doctors & Daleks" team is doing innovative things with the d20 engine to make the experience more DW-like and I'm tentatively excited about that because Cubicle 7 has a history of interesting design choices in service of tailoring systems to franchise licenses.

@BESW I'm definitely curious

Q: Rolling "McGyver" in Savage Worlds

BlazeFor the first time in many Savage Worlds campaigns over several years, a player has the "McGyver" Edge. The first benefit of the Edge is clear cut: when rolling Repair on the "hyperspace torque converter", the PC suffers no penalty for improvising tools and fixes. The second benefit is the abilit...

Q: Voice of Authority: Is the reaction attack still limited by the weapon's range

Null-WalkerIn a game with my friends, we were in combat and someone used VoA (Voice of Authority) to have our FighterBarb attack an enemy over 30ft away. Thinking that the line of sight from VoA was the range of the reaction attack. I don't think that was correct but I'm not certain and couldn't find any so...

WRAP• by Dissonance. An Aftercare Mini-Game
@Trish I didn't realise you had a note in your answer here, when I asked this
@AncientSwordRage [gestures above] WRAP might be part of a good answer to your aftercare question. My basic rule about aftercare in general is that it's not added after the session; it's scheduled for during the session and takes up part of the session time. WRAP might help mitigate resentment a little by giving it a sense of "still playing."
14:05
@BESW I think I tracked it down: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/305852/WRAPo
I linked the itch.io page just above.
@BESW oh!
I've either started ignoring those gestures at state of world emotes, or assumed you were gesturing at my link not yours
@BESW that's a very interesting take on the whole wrap up thing
14:57
@AncientSwordRage heh, yea, S&W is very easy to implement in online
15:10
@Trish did you see my our particular circumstances?
Waves at Mith
@AncientSwordRage the quick logoff is a bother, but players could/should be able to drop at least one line or such in between games
@Trish it's not a bother to me but definitely would be to anybody suggesting that we use Stars and Wishes without adapting it
I don't want to put the onus on others staying longer than they're (comfort)able after the session
@AncientSwordRage the easiest adaption is to possibly make wishes optional, just asking for a highlight they really enjoyed.
The other is to try and make sure to start S&W 10 minutes before time's up
@Trish when dropping a line though, it might need more explanation but then sits there unexplained potentially doing more harm than good (words are hard, even outside of the internet). At least that's my concern
@AncientSwordRage yea, so... maybe just drop the wishes till your players learned how to formulate good wishes.
15:19
Our play-by-chat is on SE, but we do have a separate Discord where messages are deletable and channels exist
@bobble good point
So maybe a good answer would be to do the star and wishes (or whatever) outside of the 'main' Play Chat room
@Trish I'm not sure how that would work a) wishes would (for me) be the most important part and b) how do you get good at something without practice?
@AncientSwordRage *waves*
Separately they're not my players; I'm one of the players in the game
@AncientSwordRage Then start with good examples!
@Trish true
15:28
I'd point out that in the past, I don't think people have shied away from stating they didn't like how something went down.
I'd point out that I'm not going to be able to know or articulate my own feelings about the session unless they're unusually strong, in which case I'd say them anyways
@Mithical good to know!
@bobble that's completely valid
I'm not just thinking about feelings though; for example people stating that their Cool Ideas have been made to be not Cool is something I feel better knowing has happened previously
@AncientSwordRage I added some things that from my experience worked. and how in some cases
15:50
@Trish I'm reading over the diff
I always get confused when two things look the same before and after but they get highlighted
@AncientSwordRage double-spaces XD
@AncientSwordRage I think I am at a final version. also included pretty much how the group used L&V to get to S&W in some way.
@Trish nice! I tried a bit of copy editing, if you wouldn't mind checking I didn't mess with it too much?
16:08
@AncientSwordRage fixed over a few things: a 2-players channel is actually different from what I meant... It was a direct line to the host/GM for "I feel mobbed by Abel! Do something!" to prevent that player Kain goes to cull them.
16:34
@Trish gotcha
rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/196259/… - I hoe my copyedit was good?
17:22
@Trish looks good - the OP has made a further edit, and thanked you
@Trish Your edits helped a lot! Thank you! — Rootbeerfloats 29 mins ago
aye, just was a little worried :)
just saw, Dimitri seems to have died in december... we should have a Hall of Fame for our deceased members.
17:34
@Trish Dimitri?
@Trish That is very sad.
Aye. He was a good source for a few questions, and one of the small few that seemed to like LARP
Do we know anything more?

This question is a question that the rules-as-written tag would have been good for.
Because it's a question that is actually about the rules-as-written concept.
It seems to be roughly covered under name+
@Someone_Evil Of course. I was reading up on some of the old meta threads about the tag, and one of the problems with it seemed to be that most of the questions it was used for were not questions like this one.
That's my understanding too
21:10
@Someone_Evil Oh boy, the history of that tag is a wild ride
Speaking of meta, I think I have something I should have posted...
@bobble that sounds lovely
@Someone_Evil Is it about rule intent?

Q: Are aftercare/feedback techniques for play by chat different to in person play, and how does it work when we all have a tight schedule?

AncientSwordRageI regularly play in a game via real time chat. We all have tight schedules, and can only make a two-hour slot. Recently I've been interested in the concept of aftercare techniques or other ways of getting feedback after a session (like stars and wishes also discussed in this Q&A). However, normal...

Has the question asking preview always been that much broader than the normal pages? I found the line lengths uncomfortably long
@ThomasMarkov 🎶I wanna get in trouble//I wanna start a fight🎶
I'm probably gonna sit with popcorn for this one.
@AncientSwordRage Oh, right. I only remembered that wasn't supposed to reference batman, but not what the reference was
I'm quite looking forward to observing a contentious meta discussion I have no stake in.
@Someone_Evil It might be helpful to explicitly identify the point of view the question is written from. "We're open to..." - who is the "we" here? I'm assuming you mean our humbly elected overlor...servant moderators?
Also changed your last section to a bulleted list, it was all running together for me

Is there a feature request for having starred question cards automatically convert to question title on the star board?

Q: Expand links to Stack Exchange questions to show titles in chat when starred

AncientSwordRageSometimes someone posts a link to an important Meta discussion or another post from Stack exchange in chat. But it looks like this: Visual aid added. Internal links are already expanded, like so: Who are the two characters appearing in the background of superhero kids books? Why can't we do...

@ThomasMarkov hey it's me
Found it, posted by none other than our friendly neighborhood angry sword ferret.
@ThomasMarkov Hmm... I'm not sure I quite know. I kinda want to be more "we the community", but I suppose I could cover that as "moderators as moderators on behalf of the community". Give me a moment and I'll see if I can find a phrasing I really like
@ThomasMarkov bobble gets busy with classes so I try not to ping them tooooooo much
Open to being corrected though
21:39
"moderators as moderators on behalf of the community" Yeah, that's good. Right now, it could be read a bit like "convince the moderators one way or the other", which I know is not what youre going for.
@ThomasMarkov Or, I could've edited the bot's message. I might do that anyway just for clarity(?) (appreciate the sentiment and hope you don't mind)
@Someone_Evil Oh, no, not my gold star, much disappoint

@Someone_Evil Since we're talking meta discussions, you've got about two months until we're due an annual community check-in :P
Already?!
Yeah, supposed to be mid april each year
"supposed to be" meaning "has historically been posted each april, 2020 notwithstanding"
@ThomasMarkov 2020 was a a write off....

Q: Is a warlock's patron 'tricked' by feign death?

AncientSwordRageWhen a Warlock dies, if they have a Book of Shadows or Talisman it crumbles to ash and similarly if they had a pact weapon that disappears - I presume narratively that's the patron's doing. Interestingly a pact of the chain familiar does not vanish on warlock death. Mechanically, is the fate of t...

@ThomasMarkov was out meeting a friend! Do you still need anything?

@Someone_Evil The new meta question is very well presented. Good job!
That looks like it took some work.
Cheers! That means a lot coming from you :)

Q: Should I quit my D&D game because my DM still is showing favoritism?

RootbeerfloatsOkay to start off, I'm friends with my DM and the other player in our small campaign. I adore them a lot. The DM is nice but maybe a little sensitive to criticism. This group currently is the only way I can play with and prior to the current session, I was the DM for the group until I got tired o...
