Q: Would clawed gauntlets be considered simple weapons?

PuckTheTricksterA few sessions ago, my group killed a T-Rex and made its claws into gauntlets which they forced upon my monk. I was trying to figure out what kind of weapon they’d be classed as (simple or martial, they’re obviously melee). From what I can find, a simple weapon is described as a basic weapon tha...

Q: Does Fey Ancestry still apply while polymorphed

Jon DosmannMy elf was polymorphed into a giant ape and had to make a Wisdom saving throw or else be charmed. I know that I make the saving throw with the giant ape's wisdom score but would the elf still get advantage? The polymorph game text is, "The target's game statistics, including mental ability scores...

Q: Restore Balance vs Cutting Words: Which more effective when an opponent has advantage?

DomI'm preparing a clockwork soul sorcerer/lore bard for a high level one shot (17 lore/ 3 clockwork soul). The combination seems very versatile for a support character. One area of overlap between them is being able to use reactions to affect the results of opponent's roll. Both Restore Order and C...

Q: In dnd-5e, what conditions are necessary to combine vicious mockery with message to create an "Insult Sniper"?

wpigradVicious mockery requires you to "see the target" within range (60 feet) and the target must "hear you". Message has a range of 120 feet, does not require line of sight, and the target "hears the message" as a whisper. Here are some things that may help this combo: The Spell Sniper feat (PHB) dou...

Q: Can I cast spells requiring pointing at the target by looking in a mirror?

wpigradI am trying to cast a spell, like Message which requires "pointing" at the target, but without looking directly a the target. I think there are two possible situations that could occur: As suggested by Thomas Markov, the mirror is the only way you can see the target with no other direct line of ...

Q: As a player, am I allowed to say the name of the move I want to make?

GlaziusI've heard it differently from different MCs or MC-equivalents in the various games I've tried at cons. To pick one as an example, if I'm playing Apocalypse World, is this fine? MC: So you were probably wondering when that 6- on the love letter was going to come due, Keeler? Well, it's right now...

Q: Do I lose Symbiotic Entity if I gain new Temporary Hit Points?

PethraxThe Circle of Spores 2nd level ability Symbiotic Entity reads as follows: As an action, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to awaken those spores, rather than transforming into a beast form, and you gain 4 temporary hit points for each level you have in this class. While this featur...

Can anyone think of useful cases that apply here, so I can add them to my question? I've thought of Medusas, but no other relevant line of sight cases. Oh! Scrying! rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/195034/…
@Phoenices mirror telescope?
I don't see how that's really different from "a bunch of mirrors in a row," but I guess I could bring up that case. I also don't see what would make it relevant - if a single mirror doesn't work, obviously it won't, while if a single mirror does work it almost certainly will.
wow, the "you have less than 10 seconds left for editing" message really brings up my heart rate.

Does anyone have evidence of whether Teleport transports caster+object or just object? Either it says "(you and up to eight willing creatures of your choice that you can see within range), or (a single object)," or it says "you and (up to eight willing creatures of your choice that you can see within range), or (a single object)."
@Phoenices look for the comma placement
I think my reading is the later?

Q: Are there practical methods for dealing with indecisive players during combat?

VadrukFollowing up on How to deal with indecisive, overthinking players?. This question got closed, because it was not specific enough. I will offer a more detailed scenario from our play group. Context My group plays D&D 5e, where in most sessions we enter combat encounters. When we roleplay outside o...

That question about 'what are civilized people called' may need to be closed again...
> Is there an in-universe term to refer to a member of a civilized humanoid race, for example humans, elves, dwarves etc. which make up the population of most towns and settlements? (as opposed to trolls, kobolds, etc.)
4
A: What's the percentage population of non-human races in D&D 5e's Forgotten Realms?

ZwiQThe overall demographics of modern Forgotten Realms, ie. say the last couple centuries, seem not to have changed much over the various editions of the game. Since around -3000DR, when the human archmage Iolaum raised the first enclave of what would become the Netherese Empire, humans have been in...

Q: Can I target someone who I can see in a mirror?

PhoenicesInspired by this question, I'm wondering what happens if want to cast a spell that requires me to see the target, I can see my target in a mirror, and have a clear path to them, but I don't have line of sight to them (for instance, the target is obscured from me by an illusion of a wall, but my h...

"The OP is asking for a term that refers only to the civilized "these are PC-appropriate" races" these races have civilizations and are notionally PC-appropriate. And then "inclusive of monstrous and not-usually-PC races such as goblins and ogres" there's a concerted effort to move away from that way of talking about sentient beings, in and out of the game as 'monstrous'. — AncientSwordRage 57 mins ago
I know arbitrarily dividing races like that is D&D being D&D, and showing its uh... negative roots, but it makes answering that question not just fraught with difficulty, but also almost impossible?
Dwarves might call themselves and (some) gnomes deepfolk, and everyone else "Tall people". Some elves might lump humans and orcs into the same category 🤷🏻‍♂️

Let me know if I'm just tilting at windmills
It is be possible to talk about what D&D does and call it out rather than endorse it. A great answer might provide a frame challenge to the underlying assumptions. rpg.se doesn't have the best track record with such things though.
