So, I have to think about something... The DMPC has given the PCs a "payment" for their assistance. Gold, knowledge, spells, items, whatever may suit a level 2 PC. As a C/G Monk, I'm feeling the payment for services rendered in aid for those in need is a bit unnecessary..?
That said, this Monk is a reformed one, recently turned from darker paths.
I am also leaning more toward Kensei ofr my Monastic Tradition, at this point

So I made a Snow-Tabaxi Monk, based on the White Power Ranger, and I'm deciding on which Monastic Tradition to go with. I'm thinking either Kensei or Living Weapon (from Exploring Eberron)

"#69: Australia! 🇦🇺" issue of The Indie RPG Newsletter. After the success of the Finland issue of the newsletter where Petri Leinonen wrote about five games from his country, I thought it was something worth doing again. So I asked on Twitter and lots of lovely people volounteered. This week, I’ve got the first of these new set of guest contributions. It’s from Logan Timmins, a game designer from Australia.
Funding: MiniBX by Lucas Rolim. A disruption, subversion or even a profanity against D&D B/X. This is an attempt to make this game our own. More than a minimalistic hack, this is a new rule set, with insights and new, fast, quick, and easy to run combat and spell rules.

@BESW I'll have to watch that later!

I'm wondering about making a variant Tabaxi that gets a once per day use of Catnap what existing abilities would be best placed to be remove?

Ben
As in like, the 3rd level enchantment?

2:09 AM
@Ben yes, but once a day, and only on themselves
My logic is that cats like sleeping

Ben
Makes sense

The only issue is it potentially over powers warlock tabaxis?

Ben
2:24 AM
Maybe it can just be HP related?
Magic follows different "rules"

@Ben HP?
Do you get hit points back on a short rest?

Ben
Ah true. well, you can only use your hit die on a short rest?

looks up short rest rules for the first time
Ahhh ok
That's a lot more powerful than I realized

@BESW that one was fun

@AncientSwordRage Maybe make it so that they use "Catnap" instead of a Short Rest? Like how elves don't sleep on a long rest?

Q: Does Ghostly Grasp work on all objects?

ChemusThe feat Ghostly Grasp (Libris Mortis p. 27) says: You can wear, wield, and otherwise use corporeal items as though you were not incorporeal. Does this include being able to open a door, load a wagon with cargo, pull on a rope, walk on stairs, punch a wall, etc., or only to use items like weapo...

@BESW don't forget geometric mean rest
@Ben hmmm so it's just shorter?

@BESW that was something I remember my grandad saying ☺️

> Tabaxi Nap: Once per 24 hours, you may gain the benefits of the catnap spell, with the following exception. You do not regain any uses of abilities or spell slots that would usually refresh on a short rest. Instead you may spend one hit die per ability, or one hit die per spell slot level regained. You gain advantage on the next saving throw to resist effects that would render you unconscious.

Ben
"Instead you may spend one hit die per ability, or one hit die per spell slot level regained." I don't understand the wording here

@Ben ahhh it's missing "and regain that ability or spell slot"

Ben
Oh so you can use a hit die to regain the use of an ability/spell slot?
Interesting...

@Ben yes. I don't know how that interacts with non-warlock spell slots, but I means you get a 1st level spell slot for one hit die, 2nd level for two HD etc.

Ben
@AncientSwordRage "You have learned to regain some of your magical energy by studying your spellbook. Once per day when you finish a short rest, you can choose expended spell slots to recover. The spell slots can have a combined level that is equal to or less than half your wizard level (rounded up), and none of the slots can be 6th level or higher."
That for a wizard
Srocerers recover all after a long rest
Same as bards
So I'd say that works

Q: How do Dispel Magic and Counterspell interact with a spell cast through the Ascendant Dragon-Touched Focus as though it were 9th level?

Thomas MarkovCounterspell and dispel magic call for an ability check if the target spell is 4th level or higher: If it is casting a spell of 4th level or higher, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a success, the creature's spell fails and has no ef...

Q: For spells that last several rounds, do I roll the dice once and keep the same damage every time, or do I roll the dice again each time?

Chea996When using spells that last several rounds (such as Create Bonfire or Flaming Sphere), should I roll the dice to determine damage just the first time (and keep doing the same damage every time someone fails the saving throw)? Or should I roll the dice again every time someone takes damage from th...

DiGRA India Conference 2021 Keynote #1: "White Protagonism and Imperial Pleasures in Game Design" by Meghna Jayanth. (text available here) (it's about video games but a lot of the concepts and principles are transferable)
@BESW This has some really good points I'm gonna need to keep in mind for some of my upcoming designs, to avoid learned bias about default norms.
"How To Set A DC in a D20 Dungeon Game" essay by EldritchMouse on mindstorm
BJ Recio wrote a twitter thread about using "the term storyteller to describe the GM's role" and how it connects with "the classical storytellers in my life - elders of my family, sitting in their rocking chairs, telling stories handed down to them by their own elders."

12:28 PM
Okay, the White Protagonism rules are getting me excited about Traveling Librarians again because it's designed to break a lot of them and being more deliberate about that seems like it'll give shape to parts of the game that I was struggling with.

12:40 PM
Hrm. If I were to use the abbreviation NLC in a game, would it bring up any particular associations for people?

12:56 PM
My head wants LC to stand for liquid chromatography, but I don't know of any Ns in that context

I'm looking for an abbreviation like NPC, but for a game structured more like a BOB/NDNM where there is no GM only players who each have a "main" character they primarily inhabit but can inhabit any other character in the scene as well, so "non-player character" makes no sense.
And since the context is that the "main" characters are all librarians and the others aren't, "Non-Librarian Character" seems logical.

1:20 PM
That seems reasonable

@BESW I vaguely remember someone else talking about that concept and using a different term for it, but I don't think it established itself.
As for associations, none in ttrpg context.

I will say that any new abbreviation sans context makes me think it's a new blockchain scam. Thanks internet

NLC may refer to: == Places == National Location Code, a numerical code assigned to revenue-generating locations on the British railway network for accounting and ticket-issuing purposes Naliya Cantt, the station code for a railway station in Northern India New London (Amtrak station), Connecticut, United States; Amtrak station code NLC. === Fictional locations === "New Leaf City", a part of the MMORPG MapleStory. == Schools == North Lake College, a Dallas County Community College. @Someone_Evil yeah, that's the sort of thing I want to avoid, if it's got some established meaning that I'd be stepping on the toes of, I want to know.

There's some interesting ones on this list:
> Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation
> Neo-Luciferian Church

1:49 PM
@ThomasMarkov I'm familiar with wiki disambiguation pages and can read lists. What those pages don't tell me is the weight or pressure a given thing exerts in the social consciousness.
That's why I'm asking Real Humans(tm)

@BESW what, here, online?
@BESW My mind looks at NLC and tries to match it with DLC, NFC, NCP and NCR before it gets to realising it's a variation on NPC

@BESW How about Notable Patron Characters?

@AncientSwordRage Since you aren't looking at mounted combat, what scenario are you looking at in your mount attached with reigns question?

1 hour later…
8:41 PM
@Akixkisu 🤷🏻‍♂️
But definitely not mounted combat
No intention to mount the animal

@AncientSwordRage But you are in combat?

9:41 PM
@Akixkisu yes; the tags ( ) are accurate as far as I can tell

9:56 PM
@AncientSwordRage which means mounting and unmounting to change initiative isn't an option.
I'm kind of confused about the question, tbh. It seems like one of those things that you handwave in 98% of the situations.
Is this a "I'm curious about the rules" situation or do you have a specific situation in mind that you wouldn't handwave/handle with an animal handling check or want input on?
Or is this more of an action-economy issue?

@Akixkisu one moment
Sort of afk, sorry

10:21 PM
No worries, you aren't on a timer ;)

10:38 PM
@Akixkisu I'm honestly intrigued by that
@Akixkisu I thought about it when trying to double dip dashes, and since then it feels like something I'd like to do in the future

@AncientSwordRage Hm, I guess - why do you think it would enable you to double dip dashes?
Or maybe - what do you mean by double dipping under these circumstances?

@Akixkisu double dipping dashes was a separate thing, unrelated
I ended up unmounted, and unable to remount in the same turn, so I was thinking if I could lead/drag the mount with the rest of my movement

@AncientSwordRage If you were mounted before - you still share the initiative with the mount.

Yeah, I already did. I hope they will consider some of the feedback - though it is somewhat counter to their design.
Generally they seem to want to make many sites appear leaner for some reason.
