Q: Double Spirit Shroud with Death Domain

EspeThe ability from the Death Domain Cleric is Improved Reaper Starting at 17th level, when you cast a necromancy spell of 1st through 5th level that targets only one creature, the spell can instead target two creatures within range and within 5 feet of each other. If the spell consumes its materia...

I find the "can D&D be played solo" a bit like asking "can I high-five myself?" Sure, but it's missing the point, and is just called "clapping".

@GcL Right? Can't you just theory craft 50 different characters on DNDBeyond like a normal person?

@GcL depends on the table
@ThomasMarkov If you never actually have to roll a saving thrown, can your dwarf battle master (one of 50 DDB tc's) truly be saved? 😮

6:17 PM
Agreed, having been in several sailing-related campaigns now. It really depends on the players. Some players really dig managing crew, ship supplies, and travel logistics. Others just want the GM to plop a monster in front of them.

@MikeQ The latter are usually my groups.
They want me to plop and a monster and then they want to kill it.

@NautArch Not sure who you could be talking about here.

@ThomasMarkov It'll just be a mystery.

@KorvinStarmast Tell me when you see my comment, I don't want to leave it up too long.

@ThomasMarkov ha ha ha yes I saw it

6:22 PM
Traveling the high seas, surviving the wilderness, managing a kingdom, or just hoarding tons of magical loot... It all sounds fun and simple until the players realize it involves spreadsheets. Then you learn what type of players they really are.

@MikeQ Spoiler alert - there's more sailing in your near future. 😁
(Speaking of keeping track of stuff, I hope that the party has kept track of the stuff they have found in the sahuagin lair)

The sailing in our Saltmarsh campaign hasn't involved much logistics. Get on boat, fast forward to destination, get off boat.

Critical Role Campaign 2's high seas portions were some of my favorites.

@KorvinStarmast I made the mistake one year of agreeing to help a friend with his sailboat one year. I do not think it would be fun try to run a sailing game with them. I used to drink with navy personnel, and I know that playing D&D with them can be fun, but I would expect them to prefer the "you are here" style of play.

@MikeQ Hmm, you offered to cook for that dwarf ship, where do I store my spiders, and you took a boat over from smugglers, but yeah, I could add a bit more seamanship stuff (and bron / V2 did some neat moves during that koalinth ambush)

6:27 PM
Depends on what the players want. Do they want to fiddle with work rosters, supply management, repairs, payments, travel times, weather, etc?

GcL
@MikeQ That's a lot of it, yeah. Lots of sailing is boring. Boring in nice weather. Boring in wet weather. Boring and sunburned. Boring with lots of work to do. Boring while cleaning something.

@MikeQ give me spreadsheets or give me death by kraken

I will say that I have found it difficult to describe in a playable way the sheer quantity of rope and the variety of uses for rope that sailing vessels employ.

@GcL "lines" not rope :)

I reckon I'd be the sort of player who try to learn how to sail to get in character for a nautical campaign

6:31 PM
Just play Sea of Thieves

GcL
@AncientSwordRage I recommend chartering a boat, or finding one of the old sailing vessels out of Baltimore, Chicago, or Traverse City that offer passenger service.

@GcL I'd rather it have to cross the Atlantic to experience sailing
Also I'm the last person who I'd put in charge of an actual physical boat.
Otherwise, great idea
I've legitimately run a boat ashore before

GcL
@AncientSwordRage You're supposed to row it ashore, if the lyrics are to be believed.

@GcL I got left and right mixed up because I thought the wheel would work like in a car (I can't drive, so I don't know why I thought that would help), and the next thing I know, the propeller is tangled on something and I'm drifting into the beach

GcL
@AncientSwordRage I sea your problem. There was a beach in the way.

6:38 PM
@GcL not cause a row, but you had to stick your oar in didn't you?

GcL
@AncientSwordRage Either than or shake your hand at the sky and curse of Sun of the beach for beating down on you during your time of strife.

Q: Missing aside text on first answer queue

AndrewThe aside that shows when looking at review queues when out of votes for the First Answers queue is blank.

8:42 PM
@ThomasMarkov wow, yeah it is

@ThomasMarkov yeah it is!

9:01 PM
Im gonna throw some bounty on it tomorrow.

@ThomasMarkov race you

@AncientSwordRage it'll be around lunch time tomorrow, I think.

@ThomasMarkov lunch time your time though
I'll be honest, I'm fine waiting my turn as well

@outis This question acknowledges the answer to that question. Instead, this question is asking about the interaction between the idea of casting counterspell on your turn and a particular rule not mentioned in that question, making this a totally different question, despite similar titles. — Thomas Markov 1 min ago
