Alright I got a theory.
Every adventure novel I have ever read falls into one of two groupings.
In the first grouping, the novel starts off with no danger for a short period of time, then the characters leave ‘home base’, and go on an adventure. The whole adventure is minor risk, spiked with intermediate and major threats. Once or twice throughout the novel, the characters arrive at a safe haven for a brief period of time.
In the other model, the characters are for the most of the time, in their home environment, with little or no threat. Every so often, it is spiked with minor or major thr…
