@Ben oh I get yeet. That's pretty simple
I don't get "yeet", but then I am a strange antisocial nerd
@bobble oh I don't get it, but I still understand it to an extent.
I don't get dabbing at all

I know that dabbing is a thing but I'm not sure what the point of it is
Ben
Ben
@AncientSwordRage also yes. My sister in law does it. She'll get my attention just to dab then walk off
And not as a joke either. It's always in reference to something. She still doesn't understand that I don't get it
00:08
@Ben does she get it...?
@bobble I thought it was some kind of celebration...?
@AncientSwordRage the extent of my knowledge is what the action called "dabbing" looks like. Interpreting the meaning of that action is out of my ability.
Ben
Ben
@AncientSwordRage She has a stronger understanding than I do haha
And in all honesty, Do any of them get it?

Well that makes sense, cos she often says "Yes!" as she dabs
> In Saudi Arabia, dabbing was made illegal by the National Committee for Drug Control as it was deemed that it alludes to cannabis and other illegal substances.

Q: Do the unarmed attack bonuses from Eldritch Maul and Insignia of Claws stack?

ErosI'm a level 11 monk/barb in D&D 5e. I've put 8 levels into monk and 3 into barbarian. I have a related question: is it possible to search for recently added tags?
There's a whole page just for that!
No, tags that were recently added to questions. The specific scenario is that someone answers a question in an obscure system I know as though it's a 5E question, and also adds the dnd-5e tag to it.
@Glazius That sounds like a job for Miniman.
Ben
Ben
@TheOracle @ThomasMarkov I wholeheartedly agree with this, my only qualm is that this comes across as more of a statement than a discussion topic? That's just how I read it, and I can't really say I hold any authoritative understand of meta lol
Because it's tagged dnd-5e, I don't see it, and probably neither do the people who use the site for obscure systems, not dnd-5e.

Currently I'm hopping all over the place at work - dealing with runtime errors in plugins, trying to document other worker's program functionality from an end-user perspective... Sadly that is affecting my ability to focus on my personal projects. All Iwant to do when I get home is lie down and maybe play a game if I've had a few extra coffees during the day haha

It's good to be back in this, I haven't been able to do it for a few years.

[Googles "Ruhi"] well I know the feeling of being able to return to an old project. Glad to hear it :)
@bobble I know that feeling intimately lol
Also I probably did some bad practices which I'll find during the documentation

@bobble Piece of advice: "working" and "optimized" are two different stages. Don't get dragged down into optimizing the program when it works. Getting things working is version 1. Getting things working better is version 2.
@BESW I always find it inspiring to hear about this sort of thing. Even more so to see people actively involved in it.
@bobble I know too many people (myself included) that would prioritize optimization over release. It always goes downhill.
@Ben It's all on GitHub, so if I break something while trying to make it better I'll just grab the last working version. Since it is indeed working perfectly as of now.
Ben
Ben
01:07
Well done! A lot of the time IME people would always work to optimize/add new features before they release. Since it's always in development, it never sees the light of day, and eventually either falls to the wayside or gets dumped because it doesn't actually make anything of itself.
On another note, is there some meta guidance for re-asking a closed question by fixing the close issue? Someone asked a 3-in-1 question here, it was closed, and they haven't been back to fix it for a month (though they were last on the site two weeks ago for ???)
@Glazius The general Stack Exchange attitude is that good content is good content and whoever gets it out deserves the rep regardless of whether they sniped it from somebody slower or not.
Content is king.
@Glazius I asked a similar meta question, one second

@BESW That’s fascinating! Piecework magazine does the occasional Trimmings column for old patterns, but they tend to be limited to the Weldon’s Practical Needlework stuff. I’ve never seen these before!
(Was out camping in the glorious NorCal wilderness all weekend, only just got back)
(So did not see this until now)
I'm glad you enjoy them! Did you have a good time camping?
04:48
@BESW Yes!! I poked sticks in campfires and read lots of books and accidentally sliced myself whittling for the first time in four years and crocheted 5/8 of a pouch out of thread and chased my siblings and our camping buddies around the playground to get my pixie belt back
@BardicWizard did the sticks consent to being burned?
It was wonderful.
@bobble Depends on what you mean — the firewood was bought from the campground but I definitely poked in random sticks from the ground. I like fires and I’m good at making them even from just a coal
(Oops, computer error)
Anyways, don’t take it in a scary way. I’m always safe when I play with fire.
05:03
@BardicWizard You might also like this twitter account which I started following for the TRPGs but sometimes it goes Full Textile.
Like, she uses #LHSrescue for threads where she gets a bunch of old textiles and sorts through them.
05:18
@BESW quick search of piecework turns up nothing never heard of her! That’s so cool!
Last month she did a Kickstarter for "A compendium of fixes for the prepared adventurer, fit for your daily carry or your wizard's library."
@BardicWizard It's basically another name for patchwork: sewing lots of small pieces of fabric together to make a larger thing, especially if the pieces weren't specifically obtained for that project.
@BESW I was actually looking at Piecework magazine, which occasionally talks about textile conservation, to see if I should recognize the name
Aaaaah
There’s actually not a lot of places that talk about textile conservation so I figured that if she had shown up in PW I’d prob recognize the article
She's the textile conservation specialist at the Hatfield Historical Museum in Massachusetts.
05:40
PW shows two or three mentions of the museum in print-only back issues I don’t have, so I think she’s completely new to me. Clearly, I have to check out her work!
TRPG-wise, she's probably best known as the co-author of the Apocalypse World game, especially the 2016 redesign.
@BESW I have a weird, eclectic knowledge of the various online spheres I move in, due to the sources I have access to, so I’m only minimally surprised I’ve never heard of her, but she seems to be doing some cool stuff!
06:01
Yeah, she's probably one of the more widely-known TRPG names I share in this chat, but it's not like there's a coherent TRPG-wide sphere anyway.

I see perspective, I'm already amazed
:D
My main troubles are with the bellows technique. It's hard to keep the volume constant when reversing
have you got a particular goal in mind?
Soft perspective (not just pure geometry like buildings and railroad tracks) is a heckuvalot easier to do from life than from your head, in my experience. This is a sketch of an iron horse sculpture I could see from where I was sitting for my zoom meeting this morning.
@kviiri Like a "what I can draw" goal or a "what I will do with the ability to draw" goal?
@BESW I as thinking about the latter. (One of my friends is currently practicing drawing with the explicit goal of drawing comics, for example)
Well, I'd like to better integrate illustration into my graphic design skill set.
But I also want to just, like, have illustration as a form of expression available to me, personally?
Understandable :)

Q: What does Pentamethylarsenic smell of?

PureferretTrimethylarsinr smells of garlic. According to Wikipedia, Pentamethylarsenic smells like pentamethylantimony but I can't find the smell of that anywhere. What does Pentamethylarsenic smell of?

@AncientSwordRage I assume it smells of danger.
10:37
posted mainly because I found it amusing the wiki page says "Smells like this" and then the page it links to doesn't list a smell
trimethylarsine smells are garlic
would you associate danger and garlic?
...is it fresh?
@BESW I really don't know (:
I'm trying to figure out some pseudo-xeno-biology for something that runs on arsenic instead of phosphorous, and it looks like reducing the penta -> tri chemical could be a replacement for ATP -> ADP
but if it makes them smell of garlic, that's quite amusing and noteworthy
@AncientSwordRage do you know how pentamethylantimony smells like?
@SafdarFaisal no, because that's what the wiki page says then doesn't specify
@AncientSwordRage I'll find it out gimme a moment. :D

@HotRPGQuestions [grumble] D&D isn't analogue to any historical period but if one had to be chosen it'd be early Renaissance.
@BESW where did I read this...someone else was saying this on twitter?
Either HexCrawl or RPGBotNet
earlier editions did require you to buy skills if your class wasn't literate though?
Aye, yes
@AncientSwordRage yeah, but the only PC class that wasn't literate was barbarians.
@Carcer ah ok

Civilizaton IV is slightly older than the original Civilization video game was when Civilization IV came out
(broke even in 2019)
14:23
Oh? heh... I have a copy of the original Civilizaion for Netwoks (which was a Civ 1 derivate)
I got into the series with Civilization II, skipped III, loved IV and V, never player VI
Civ V is my jam. Couldnt get into VI.
Sock puppet ensigns, do it.
I had something that was sort of descended from Civilisation once but I don't know which version.
14:40
The Civilization series has spawned a few spin-offs and imitators. For spin-offs, the most popular ones I can think of are Colonization (focusing on the colonization of the Americas) and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (a sci-fi installment)
Both have more modern remakes too, on Civ IV and Civ V engines respectively
For imitators, there's FreeCiv (a pretty straightforward FOSS clone), C-Evo which takes the basic idea and look of earlier Civs, but does a fairly big game mechanics renovation to match the author's design sense, and was it Call to Power or what
@ThomasMarkov For me, somewhat the same: a large reason why I haven't played Civ VI, though, is that I've been exploring the Pdox side of strategy gaming. (I'm actually feeling like Civ again now, but Victoria III is coming...)
That was the one, open-source version of Colonization, FreeCol. I didn't finish it though, after getting to the "declaring independence" phase I had trouble entirely making sense of the combat system, and then the computer I had it installed on started to get even flakier than it had been.
@A.B. Haha, yes. Colonization, both the original and the FreeCol, had really little in way of a combat system and AI. Basically the way they want to challenge the player once they reach that phase of the game is throwing a ton of AI units on you
Which results in slowdowns...
Original Colonization also has an aggravating glitch that the Royal Expeditionary Force can lose all their ships if the player pumps out enough ships to counter them, resulting in the game never ending because you can't defeat the REF if they never come to the New World :>
Haha, yes, I remember the slowdowns. Finish turn, take opportunity to get up and stretch your legs while the computer putters about trying to resolve all the combats.
Oops, that sounds quite oops.
What's Pdox?
@A.B. Ah, short for Paradox Interactive. They're a Swedish game studio and publisher mainly specializing in strategy games
They've got titles such as Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron.
In contrast to Civilization, their games tend to have a relatively narrow scope, trying to better represent a particular period of history. (And in the real world, not a random-generated one, though partially RNG'd world is an option in EU4)
eg. Crusader Kings is set from the 800's to 1400's and focuses on feudal politics and court life, so you can marry people, try to secure interesting inheritances, fight duels, plot murders, etc
I... like these games, but I must say, they don't really have that sharp game design angle that Civilization has at least most of the time
It's partially understandable since they're dancing on the realism-gameplay tightrope a lot more than Civilization is
I'll be happy to describe these in greater length at some time ^^ but now I must visit ye shoppe.
Toodles

@kviiri All Hail Prinzessin Viktoria Luise Adelheid Mathilde Charlotte von Preußen, Herzogin zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg, Prinzessin von Hannover, Prinzessin von Großbritannien und Irland ;)
@A.B. PDXcon is "Paradox Convention", the publishers/game studio's own look at these sweet new games
They are basically the grand strategy game definers. gamestylewise the game focuses on strategy. Total War is the closest gameplay-wise, but TW focuses more on the tactial battles while PDX games are mostly on the strategy and support levels.
@kviiri CK2, your favorite (and now free) marriage and intrigue simulator - and a valuable tool to randomize a European map by using an early start, splinter up the whole map (there's a start option for that!), then go to observer mode and see who is in control where!
The general row of games is... EuropaUniversalis:Rome/Imperator (Antics), then Crusader Kings (750-1500), then Europa Universalis (1500-1800), then Victoria (1840-1900) and hearts of iron (1938-1946) - and yes people had written savegame converters for some of those games allowing to pretty much start with CK2, go through EU(2/3/3?), then Victoria II and HOI III...

Q: Do spells dealing negative damage automatically heal undead?

AndrásAfter posting the question about Harm to heal the summoned undead, I started digging around for spells that could do the same (area negative damage) with fewer actions. I found none explicitly healing undead, at least Grim Tendrils, Sudden Blight and Enervation all talk only about "living creatures"

@Trish thank you for seeing that.
@KorvinStarmast It's really an outlier: we never had the case before where someone pointed to their playbook without mentioning the game they play.
I mean, we had people asking about a campaign that was written and then rewritten, but never a supplement that had only appeared once so far.
@Trish thus my adding the tag since it was bloody obvious where it was coming from.
