Q: What happens to a petrified familiar?

aquavitaeA wizard's familiar was recently petrified by a magical item (similar effect to a medusa). The item's description states that only spells such as greater restoration or wish can reverse the effect. Right now, the wizard is carrying around a stone owl, so RAW, what are his options? If he dismisses...

Q: Do skill bonuses in monster stat blocks include every modifier?

TigersEye120Let's take this stat block as an example. It says the creature has +2 DEX and +6 Stealth. Does the Stealth bonus already include the ability modifier, making a stealth check for this creature essentially a 1D20 + 6? Or would it be 1D20 + 8 because of the +2 DEX?

Ben
@trogdor Oh, so you're not actually here on purpose?
That's not a good sign.
Well, I mean, it's what happens when you mess with time travel, so to be expected at least
Lol
I like it here though
I could have left a few times

Just don't touch anything. Remember: Observe and report only

Basic TCG by Viditya Voleti. A Community Driven Basic TCG
Jay Dragon asks on twitter "how does your ttrpg make space (mechanically, structurally, safety-tools-wise, etc.) for someone who just wants to draw pictures of the characters / hang out with their friends / disengage from the rules structure? do your games have space for those players?"

Talking of time travel, I'd share Most Excellent Adventure, but 1d4chan is down
And I can't get to the Google drive doc via way back machine
I didn't get a chance to read What Once Went Wrong today, my vaccine visit was too efficient and there wasn't any waiting around.
The best kind of first world problems, @BESW
The dice rolling in Most excellent adventure is really fun too

Q: What are my chances in a Most Excellent Adventure?

PureferretMost Excellent Adventure is a home brew roleplaying game system based on the Bill & Ted Films, plays gnarly air guitar riff. In this game system, when you draw from your dice pool you need to connect the results as a phone number on your phone pad: Here one person has rolled 4, 2, 8, 3, 8, a...

@AncientSwordRage Bit of a mixed bag, since part of the efficiency of our vaccine stations is that they're manned by the national guard, which our governor was able to negotiate partly because we helped that Navy plague ship back in April, and it was military subsequently breaking quarantine that helped make the virus endemic here.
@BESW A quick jab as they say
@BESW lol
there was at the end surely
you had to wait in the observation area
08:45
@trogdor Nah, I was busy being vaccine buddies with a friend in California who entirely coincidentally was under observation for her shot at the exact same time.
lol
@BESW god that makes me so #$&%$#&%ing mad
All my mad today is taken up with what happened to Anghit, but otherwise yes.
@BESW What's a vaccine buddy?
That's a really mixed bag
@kviiri a way of getting resistance to a disease, pal
@AncientSwordRage Oh ho ho ho
08:48
lol
you got me :D
@kviiri First it was just texting each other our vaccine cards and shouting "SAME!" but now we're checking in with each other periodically to make sure we're okay since she doesn't have somebody in her house to do that right now.
@BESW Aw, that's sweet! Checking for possible post-vaccine complications, or just in general?
Specifically post-vaccine complications, yeah.
I'm probably okay, I got Pfizer and the first shot's usually just uncomfy, but she's got Moderna and that might hit her hard.
I bet you could take that dice rolling system and adapt it to a few other settings like Dr Who (replace phone keys with TARDIS controls) or BTTF (replace the dual pad with the date display)
@BESW I thought it was more down to individual immune response
08:54
well Moderna is apparently more likely to cause a reaction
Anecdotally, there's also factors like age (she's about ten years younger than me) and other things.
Younger people seem to be getting hit harder by the vaccine, which is odd. Though the real dramatic changes are in the elderly.
A friend in her early 60s got laid out with nausea and exhaustion for a whole day by her second Pfizer; a friend in her 80s, didn't have any whole-body symptoms at all.
yeah my parents both felt off after the second one and they had the Moderna one
This is a common pattern in reporting, at least here.
my mother actually felt a little off after the first one too
but the second one is more likely to cause a reaction
It'll be really interesting to see if anybody eventually figures out if it's really age, or if it's an age-influenced factor like, I dunno, having previous exposure to some other now-rare disease.
09:08
One of my friends who had the 'rona about a year ago, in his mid-thirties, reported lessening in his after-symptoms after the first AZ shot
I won't go there too much but if you're curious we can continue in the COVID-19 chat room
Grr, the friend of mine who got Deadlands 2e is moving house so I can't get my hands on the details of it
While I think there's something appealing in Western alt-history and alt-history in general, Deadlands doesn't really tickle me in any particular way and I don't expect anything particularly fancy from the game design. However, I'm just so starved of RPG reading I can run my mouth about with my friends that I can't wait to see the book
I'm also interested to see if the 2010's increase in reader sensitivity to problematic messages is reflected in the new lore.

I think I've solved one of history's greatest mysteries
The year is 452. Attila is marching into Italy to fight for his betrothal with Honoria. He meets with Pope Leo I near the river Mincio, the Pope successfully negotiates for Attila to leave Rome but how was never recorded.
I have a theory Attila and Leo fell in love with each other, explaining why Attila should no longer pursue Honoria and why historiography driven by Leo consistently labels Attila as "the hun".

Q: When specifically stated "this weapon is magical for overcoming resistances" does that mean it does full damage against a character in rage

Thomas OuelletteI know that in DND-5e, the rage mechanic works against magical weapons that deal slashing damage, despite them being magical. However for certain enemies it is specifically stated "Attacks count as magical for overcoming resistances". I am wondering if in such a case, the enemies attacks would ov...

@Randal'Thor oh hai
15:11
@ThomasMarkov Does this sort of answer enter "bad wrong fun" territory?
Like, isn't the statement "It makes the game play worse at the table" entirely table-dependent?
@Medix2 Ha! I just commented exactly that.
Like, I have played a TTRPG where the entire point is to argue why you should be able to use skills you have in completely unreasonable scenarios
Going to give some time for them to change their tack before downvoting, but it seems like they opted not to.
downdoot delivered :(
15:39
While I agree that the tone of the answer is probably bad, I also think the question is bad. It assumes that the Lucky feat is broken, which it really isn't
@BaconyRevanant Yeah, but folks do houserules all the time for things they'd like to change that aren't 'broken'
And the advantage/disadvantage thing is an issue for a lot of people.
If Darth wanted to take that tack, it'd have been better to ask if they'd talked about the desire to change the rule at the table and if everyone was on board.
I assumed they were, they assumed they weren't. Neither are correct, but if you're going to build an answer around the assumption, you should confirm before writing.

@BESW Long time no see! How's things?
How's the pandemic treating your part of the world?
[wave] Guam's doing... not terribly. It helps to have a gov who used to be a nurse, I think, and a community that's generally on board with inconveniencing ourselves to help others.

@Randal'Thor What's up with you?
@TellerYT So you have some questions about how to play D&D?
@BESW Mm, I guess in this day and age you need either a community on-board with pandemic regulations or a country with lots of resources to pour into fighting the virus.
@BESW Can't complain. It's been a very sedentary year for me, but as an academic mathematician I'm probably lucky enough to be one of those least affected by Covid.

It has prioritised "simplicity" so far that it removes a lot of str...

Q: Does the Dragonlance setting feature angels, demons and planes?

Thomas E.Years past I read the novels and many setting books for Dragonlance. I never stumbled upon any of these but as I got asked by one player: Does Krynn feature any angels or demons or devils? And hand in hand with that does Krynn have any planes of existence like Faerûn has?
