Q: Utility of Proficiency Bonus in Statblock for Summoned Creatures without Proficiencies?

notovnyLooking into Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, I was reviewing the stat block of the Fey summoned by the Summon Fey spell. Amongst the statistics provided is the Proficiency Bonus of the spirit, defined as "equals [the caster's] bonus." The Summoned Fey has no Skill, Tool, or Saving Throw Proficien...

Ben
G'mornin all

@Ben hello

Ben
How are we today

I might be done with this magazine project by the end of the week!

12:21 AM
@Ben i came out as nonbinary to a friend!

@BardicWizard Wooo!

It turned out kinda funny cause I said “hey remember back like a year ago when you introduced me to non-gendered pronouns? Can u switch to using they/them for me?” And they responded with “sure, can u use they/them for me too?”

That's so good.

And it turned out both of us had kinda been avoiding coming out to each other for at least 6-8 months
because we were afraid to put ourselves out there with each other

Awwww

12:27 AM
despite having known each other for the nearly the last 5years

Q: Can the Ring of Temporal Salvation permanently increase your maximum hitpoints?

Thomas MarkovThe Ring of Temporal Salvation says (emphasis mine): If you die while wearing this gray crystal ring, you vanish and reappear in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the space you left (or the nearest unoccupied space). You have a number of hit points equal to 3d6 + your Constitution modifier. I...

Ben
@BardicWizard Well that's awesome!
It's great to have the support of your friends for that, and I'd bet it's even better to have someone in the same boat :)
@BESW Project completion and celebratory jucieboxes for everyone!

user15026
1:36 AM
@BESW ooooooh exciting

user15026
@BardicWizard oh gosh and it sounds like it went well! Yay!

user15026
@Ben I second this. Juice boxes all around!

@Ash as far as I can tell it did
although it means our middle school rpg group officially has no girls in it
it’s now 3 boys and two non-binary people

Q: How to avoid killing player characters due to a single (un)lucky roll?

Knight of the Round TableEspecially at low levels, Pathfinder characters can usually be killed easily by a single enemy attack, provided the dice fall in said enemy's favor. An example: The PC has a constituion score of 10 (modifier +0) and 8 HP The enemy is of medium size, has a strength score of 14 (modifier +2) and i...

@HotRPGQuestions Play games where death isn't arbitrary.
Straight up, Pathfinder considers low-level arbitrary death a feature. If you don't, consider trying a system that agrees with you.

2:21 AM
I don’t think hotrpgquestions is a person

No, but it's not like I'm gonna go onto mainsite and make that a formal answer.

it's not
that is the only reason I keep cracking jokes at it
and also, I hope, the only reason anyone else is either :P
XD

If I was gonna be giving formal mainsite answers to D&D questions, at least a third of them would be "instead of forcing a system to go against its design goals, find a system whose design goals align with your own play goals."

2:40 AM
@Shalvenay I made a mistake during base construction

@Joshua LOL

Darn it what's the inline link format?

@Joshua you just needed to remove the space between the ] and the (

For off-site links, use [text goes here](https://www.link-goes-here.com "optional mouseover text here")

2:43 AM
@BESW didn't know about the feature for the mouseover text, that's kinda nifty, thanks :)

3:01 AM
@trogdor I usually snark at it for that reason also

XD
to be fair, I do snark occasionally at real people but I feel no compunction to ever stop doing it to the Hot RPG Questions bot
it's a great way to blow off steam without actually traumatizing anyone (hopefully)

How long does it take for profile change to propigate to chat profile?

it usually seems to take anywhere from 1-4 hours

Variable, usually anywhere from minutes to hours.

although I have seen it take like a few minutes before yeah
I once changed it and expected to wait like at least two hours and it happened in two minutes

3:07 AM
yeah right now if you follow the link from chat profile to site profile the image changes

yeah
on your profile it should already be different (assuming you just changed it and that's why you asked)
but in the chats and stuff it might take some time

My profile was green before the great gravatar email exploit and I wanted the green back and finally got around to doing it

But if something's gotten weird in the background (like if you ever merged accounts), you can get phantom chat accounts that might gobble up your avatar change so the account you actually use doesn't see it.

last account merge was in the first week of stackoverflow. profiles were weird back then

I've had to alert a couple of friends to phantom chat accounts which still had their deadnames.

3:10 AM
Unless it's been changed since this, the sync happens once an hour, so up to that long to update

I've seen it take more than an hour much more recently than that.
Source: for the last couple of years I've changed my avatar once every 24 hours during Hatmas.

mine occasionally flips between the different nicks I use on different Stacks
@BESW naming is hard, name changes are harder, especially since there's no autorefactor for that?

@BESW what’s hatmas?

@Shalvenay No, like, the ghost profile preserved everything from years ago: name, avatar, profile text.

@BESW oh, wow. that's pretty crazy

3:19 AM
@BardicWizard Every year around December, the Stack Exchange interface adds an overlay for putting images of hats on your avatar everywhere your avatar appears. And you "earn" different hats to use by participating on the site in various ways.
It's officially called Winterbash, but let's be honest it's Hatmas.

lol

@BESW that sounds oddly intriguing

For three of the last five years, I'd choose a hat it was easy to get right away and put the same hat on a different avatar every day of the event.
Winterbash 2015: The Fourth Doctor's hat and scarf on fictional doctors. Winterbash 2016: Darth Vader's mask on famously bad fathers. Winterbash 2017: Sherlock Holmes' deerstalker on fictional detectives.

@BESW wow. Which was your favorite?

or you could be like me and just put on every new hat you got XD

3:25 AM
2016 was fun because I got to make some deep cut references and re-frame some characters who aren't best known for being bad fathers.
2017 I got to make even deeper cuts and put a deerstalker on a teabag.

Aww man you missed the opportunity to have Dr. Beverly Crusher in there on that doctor one, and Dr. Julian Bashir in the detective one - if a spy is a detective
And if playing a spy in the holosuite counts

I'm always spoiled for choice and have to leave a lot out.
I didn't include Detective Dee either.

lol

I like that Nate the Great is in there. But not encyclopedia brown?

He's the very first one!

3:31 AM
Hmmm TIL if you close something as "needs more clarity" you cannot close it as a dupe after it is clarified

@BESW how did I miss that?
I used to love those books. We own every single one

I even read the cookbook.

I loved the cookbook one

I also enjoyed Sobol's Secret Agents Four.
Kinda wished that had gone into serialization too.

they did a couple of new encyclopedia brown books like the case of the carnival crime, the case of the soccer shoes, and like one other when I was in first or second grade and scholastic books advertised them heavily. Our teacher read us the original first book to show us what they were like and I was the only one who’d read it
so when she got us to solve the mysteries I ended up being told not to answer any more cause I knew what the problem was

3:38 AM
Heheh

We read them at bedtime for years. Followed by the Tiffany aching discworld books and the mother daughter book club books and the shoes series

They were the sort of thing I'd put in a pile on one side of the armchair on Saturday morning, and all the books would be on the other side of the armchair in the evening.
Excellent popcorn reading.

I do that with all the yarn books I own sometimes. It’s rare now of course but it used to be more common

So BESW is another book monster.

Yeah, my reading habits changed significantly when I hit high school.

3:46 AM
@Joshua :P

And oh I can’t believe I forgot the Penderwicks books! I love those

Went camping a few months ago spent half my camping time in camp reading books.

definitely worse things to be
(I'm probably a bit of a bookmonster too, come to think of it, just with rather...curious reading tastes compared to most)

Book monsters are fun
I identify as one

When I was thirteen my dad took me on a three-month cross-America drive from the West to the East and back. Our deal was that I'd put up with him stopping to take photos of everything if he'd stop at every used bookstore we passed.
(Also, I navigated. The only time he tried to navigate, we set out to find a store around the corner and wound up in the next state.)

3:49 AM
sounds like a get rich quick scheme

@BESW sounds like my grandfather

Not with the price of shipping back home at the end of the journey, it wasn't.

the day my little brother came home from the hospital I had a field trip and my grandfather took me to school. I was ten minutes late despite having left an hour early

Even the USPS media mail rate gets a bit pricey when you're shipping 6.5k miles.

it usually took fifteenminutes to get to school
but my grandfather got very lost
@BESW oof. Shipping is crazy expensive

3:52 AM
My dad said "it's not getting lost, it's having an adventure!"
...as we've been tramping through the sword grass for an hour looking for the trail and the sun is setting.

@BESW cringes
Sword grass is awful
you can’t even make it into yarn
And it cuts you
I presume you made it out alive though

For those unfamiliar, all grasses embed shards of silica in their blades; this is why grass is bad food for humans, it cuts us up inside because we've basically eaten ground glass and our stomachs aren't built for it. But some grasses line up their silica so that they actually have microscopic serrated blades lining the edges of their leaves.
It grew wild in the hills where I grew up, miles and miles of it.
It's beautiful. Wear gloves, long sleeves, and pants.
Also don't stay out into the twilight because that's when the wild pigs start getting more serious about considering you edible.

that would be a bad experience
I am glad I have never had that one

@BESW I have a list of “fibers I want to work with someday when I actually have a budget”. Sword grass is very obviously missing from that list, as are my area’s native burrs and related species. And poison oak
(never stray from the trail in NorCal. We have ticks, burrs, poison oak, and several other things)
@BESW wait, they will eat humans????????

@BardicWizard CHamoru weaving mostly uses akgak (pandanus), but also niyok (coconut) and nipa palm.
@BardicWizard Oh yeah, pigs will eat anything that they can subdue, if they're hungry enough. And with sharp tusks, sharp hooves, and weights that can get over 200 pounds, a small group of pigs is gonna consider one or two hikers pretty easy targets.

4:07 AM
@BESW that’s cool! I want to learn how to use fibers that didn’t come from the local yarn shop

Pigs take the "omnivore" label very seriously.

And I thought owlbears were scary

My dad got surrounded by some pigs on the trail once, but he got a good smack on the leader's snout with his big old camera tripod and since it was the middle of the day they decided he wasn't worth the bother.

on the bright side
it makes me feel better about eating pork
they would do it to me so fair play :P

4:25 AM
@BESW yeah, the 30-50 feral pigs meme had some definite weight behind it

Q: Can you warm yourself up with Fire Bolt?

z33kDuring my last encounter my 3lvl wizard fell into a trap with freezing water below. In 4e that'd be an Arcana check to use a power outside of combat for an off-label purpose.

Am feeling mildly worked up about a new user playing "let's pretend we're mods"
Over on Arqade, a new user (one month old) that has asked nothing but PvZ questions decided to post this on an answer:
> Aren't you the one who tried posting a answer to my "should I pick doom shroom or cherry bomb" question and got your response deleted? Don't let it happen again!
Flagged it and asked to refrain from reprimanding other users. And also posted on meta asking about the appropriate practice, cos this upset me and I'm not sure if I acted appropriately or not.

Q: Can an 8th level Monk/Barbarian (Path of the beast) really make 5 attacks per turn?

Joachim KurzIn Tasha‘s Cauldron of Everything, WotC released a new Primal Path for the babarian, the "Path of the Beast" which has the following rage feature: Until the rage ends, you manifest a natural weapon. It counts as a simple melee weapon for you, and you add your Strength modifier to the attack and ...

MercrOne of my players is playing a wizard who knows the find familiar spell. Last session, they had to deal with some hags. @Ben Question OP was asking for upvotes in comments, does that happen a lot on arqade?

9:56 AM
@Ben ? Which user is this?

It's over on arcade, not here.

@BESW Ah thanks, I just wanted to check in case I missed something.

@BESW happily a lot of the answers on the PF question are in agreement with your observation earlier

10:34 AM
not exactly roleplaying...
probably some of you will recognize this board game.
I used to own a small - very small - version of this .... around 4 cm.
Had a pair of tweezers included to move the tokens.
Can't find that anymore.
Any idea of WHERE I could look for a picture?
All I can find on Google are bigger versions.
Bonus points for pictures that actually include the tweezers

11:00 AM

@BESW aaaaaaaaaaaand as usual, it's BESW. Not surprised :P. Someday, we will discover your secrets.

Anyway, thanks for the picture. Not the same I had (the board here seems to be paper-tin. Mine was actual wood)
And thanks to your idea.... FOUND.
the key was to search for "miniature".
not the same packaging but the pieces match my memory - small little circles, not shaped like the original conical pieces.

11:16 AM
Yeah, my search was an image search for "Mensch ärgere Dich nicht" minature
I saw that one but I was struggling to find a source for it and then the other one I found seemed like the same basic thing.
@Derpy Try adding puppenhaus or puppenstube instead of miniature.
@Derpy Behold.

@BESW yep, mine had a transparent plastic box and tweezers (yep, that wasn't a joke)
but it seem quite close.

ooooh. gimmie a minute.
...nope, pinzette and pinzetten aren't helping much.

2 hours later…
1:43 PM
Well, WoTC finally caught up with me. Rangers use a Druid spell casting focus. Hmm, that picture looks like it's a mini Parchese game ...

How about that.

@ThomasMarkov I am still agonizing over that new Creation Bard and Lore Bard, and need to pick before Saturday night. I was about to go all in on Lore but we do have a rogue, so I don't need to be skill bard, and the DM's world building scheme and my bard's relationship to kami and ocean spirits have a strong song of creation theme that has nothing to do with Tasha's release.
While I hate to lose the skill proficiencies, the thematic fit is almost too good go be true.

Id go lore and diversify my skill set relative to the rogue.

Plus, if we get to high enough level (doubtful) I can make my own bling and 14th level.

@KorvinStarmast Im not convinced that wasn't an oversight.

1:49 PM
@ThomasMarkov That was my original build idea. But I think that when we get to ASI levels I can swap proficiencies .. I'll check again ... not sure if that's in Tasha's, so much fiddling with basic mechanics going on.
@ThomasMarkov I am pretty sure that it was
To a certain extent, they made a mess of Ranger, and IMO it was due to a lack of effort/attention to detail.

Did you see where they explicitly confirmed that Dragonlance, Eberron, and Toril are all on the same plane?

All beast master needed was (like they did with artificer) 'command your beast companion as a bonus action' and about half of the complaints would vaporize
@ThomasMarkov Oh, cosmology thing?

Yeah
Strangely enough, its embedded in a spell description

I thought Eberron was way the heck off int the boondocks of crystal spheres ... was this a youtube thing?
Blue Dream?

1:53 PM
Gaaaaaaah. Well, they have broken lore before ... twice in the last decade or so ...

Obviously the spell is a big "talk to your DM before taking this" thing

What I like most about Creation Bard is the Customizable Inspiration feature; but I'll need to teach / train my party mates on how and when to use it.

Since it requires help from the DM to do anything.

@ThomasMarkov When it comes to the whole cosmology thing, that is DM territory anyway. And it's another reason to play a non Faerun/non Official setting.
I find the "but that's canon" as applied to D&D to be a load of {something silly}, particular once the 4e version of "and the world changed again" happened. Only to be reversed a short time later.

2:07 PM
@KorvinStarmast I haven't taken a good look at creation yet, but Lore is amazing.

@NautArch It sure is, particularly the 2 magical secrets adds at level 6. We lost our sorcerer which makes me our prime arcane caster. (We do have a hexblade, but he seems to really be into the blade part of it so far ... )
On the one hand, I am tempted to play test Creation; get experience with a new sub class. On the other hand, the "how many tools can I accumulate" instinct in me screams "Lore!" since I am a support character.

@KorvinStarmast yeah, the hex is a martial for the most part
I Just haven't really looked at the new stuff, but my 5e grognard hunch is i ain't gonna like it. Now get off my lawn!

Our line up: Halfling, Paladin, Redemption. Warforged, Cleric, War Domain. Kenku, Rogue. Aasmiar, Hexblade. (Fallen, IIRC).
@NautArch Some of it's weird, but at least they confirmed my hunch: Ranger gets druidic focus. 😁
A lot of it is bloat.

@KorvinStarmast I'll still go through it and be open to players wanting stuff from it, but I'll need to spend some more time on reviewing it.

The art is really hit or miss. Their picture for a paladin of glory is a tiefling wearing nothing but animal skins. scratches head not seeing it.
Twilight Cleric: more bloat, it is this book's hexblade. (You did what? was my final reaction)

2:12 PM
@KorvinStarmast that unarmored paladin look, eh?

@NautArch Yeah, but the Redemption picture in Xanathar's made thematic sense ... weird
Rune knight looks neat, but I keep thinking "why isn't this a Barbarian sub class?"
More art weirdness: the wood elf barbarian (wild magic) in a kilt looks great, but I thought wood elves had coppery skin and darker hair ...
On the other hand, the drow eloquence bard looks, to me, just right.

@KorvinStarmast You mean your favorite thing isn't that you can conjure a 15' cube's worth of mayonaise?

@RevenantBacon I'd prefer a 15' cube's worth of spam, actually. Got a lot of mouths to feed, and it's a fine breakfast meat when cooked like bacon in a pan ...
... I'll get an alchemy jug if I really need the mayo for the spam, lettuce and tomato sandwiches

I'll have the spam, eggs, spam, beans, spam, and spam

@RevenantBacon I remember as a boy, my dad would slice spam thin (kind of like lunch meat) and I'd toast the bread. We'd make sandwiches with spam, lettuce, swiss cheese, pickles, and French's mustard. Dad hates mayo
I served that to my kids once and my wife nearly came unglued.

2:27 PM
She not a fan of spam then?

Nope, as I discovered somewhat to my chagrin.

More spam for the rest of us, I say

It got banned from our pantry at that point. I only keep a can around for survival (like hurricanes) situations since the kids left .

LOL that edit

Her point that canned chunk tuna in water is healthier for us insofar as a preserved food goes. I have a hard time arguing against that point. But I do keep kippered herring also, and a few cans of sardines.

2:30 PM
Sure tuna is a bit healthier, but it's not tastier

I also discovered that deviled ham was a banned substance. Spread it on crackers once and she gave me the old "you are not eating that in my house ..." spiel

Honestly though, I never really understood that kind of attitude
"I don't like it, so you can't have it"

Q: Help me identify these dice

JDSI have these dice. I don't know where they came from or how I got them, and I can't imagine what they are for. They are 20-sided dice but the numbers on the sides are bananas. See image Numbers on them are: 4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 24, 28, 35, 36, 42, 49, 54, 56, 64, 72 I really don'...

looks like a fun question.
The numbers turn up nothing in OEIS

@ThomasMarkov weird

Imma bounty this question if nothing turns up for two days.
average is 29.4
sum is 588

2:35 PM
was looking at patterns, and don't see one.
at least not immediately

7 is the greatest prime factor of any of the numbers

@ThomasMarkov That was a lot easier to check than I thought I would be

Is there a pattern?

@RevenantBacon Not seeing one yet.

After work I'll probably look at the possible sums
It's certainly useless, but who doesn't love useless, but accurate statistics

2:41 PM
@RevenantBacon she can't stand the smell of deviled ham, or of kippers, or of spam when the can opens

@KorvinStarmast Tell her to wait in the other room :p

@RevenantBacon Or, I can stay married and not get into it with her on that topic. 😁 This is one of those deals where you pick your battles

Differences of the faces

There is a pattern, though ... 49, 54, 56, 64, 72 is 7*7, 9*6, 7*8, 8*8, 8*9 ... but the first few numbers make me think that's not quite there yet ...
20, 21, 24, 28, 35, 36, 42 is ... 4*5, 3*7, 4*6, 4*7, 5*7, 6*7 ...

2:47 PM
I stand by my previous statement.
Wierd

Weird, even

Let the question "Why would this be on a die?" filter your theories :P

4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 16 is 2*2, 2+3, 3+4, 2*5, 3*4, 3*5, 4*4 ...
@ThomasMarkov No idea, but those seem to be a rational progression based on ... something.
Why would this be on my die? "There I was, making dice one day, and I sniffed too much of the paint thinner. So I made these."

Looks like it could be used to countdown from 72 (or up) because each face is adjacent to its next lowest/highest number

@AncientSwordRage yeah

2:49 PM
Like a 'spindown' die for tracking life in magic the gathering

My core pattern problem is the lowest four numbers
I'll go with the paint thinner hypothesis ...
Also, there's no 25 and no 9
I must say, this is one of my favorite questions of the last year or two, love it.

If you add up results from the dice, there are no gaps from 19 to 80

But here's the real question: what use do these dice have?
What can be done with them>?

@RevenantBacon Drive your DM crazy is one fantastic use
Another use is to break anydice ...

3:03 PM
Are we certain that the two dice are identical?

@AncientSwordRage as written in the question, yes

Ilmari Karonen, where are you?

It's probably not a sequence based on any reasonably well known math thing --- because of no OEIS hits

@kviiri first thing i tried lol

3:09 PM
@KorvinStarmast Have I mentioned I know him IRL?
Tremendous fellow he is
@ThomasMarkov Haha, good :D

@kviiri Lucky you; some of the best answers I have ever read. Has a gift for explaining things.

@KorvinStarmast Yup
I wonder what he's up to, actually. Haven't seen him in a while

Profile shows that he's active on SE/SO, within the last 24 hours.

@ThomasMarkov so, they have finally found the lost dices for the first edition of the Voynich TRPG? Nice.

3:25 PM
@kviiri Weird, I hit the patent google and it did not return the result. Ilmari has returned

Vahah :D
He's the hero we need

My classmate just called me “the walking, talking, sheep’s version of curse of strahd”

@BardicWizard I'm not sure what that's supposed to even mean LMAO. Is it an insult? A compliment? Both?
Neither?
I need more details!

3:44 PM
@RevenantBacon it’s likely a compliment in response to the amount of wool I mentioned having gone through so far in November (somewhere around 8 skeins so far, though they weren’t large ones)

@BardicWizard Does Nits know? The shear audacity of your friends!

@NautArch that’s a horrible pun and you should feel sheepish

@NautArch Funny thing, I took the Urchin background and that food scraps personality trait on my character for your game.

And like half of it was cotton or acrylic anyways. Wool is expensive

@ThomasMarkov natural freezer out there

3:49 PM
Thats what I was thinkin

also, i'm not going to track ammo or rations

@NautArch If they ever release Dark Sun setting, you may want to revisit that approach ...

@KorvinStarmast yeah, if there's a setting where it matters, i'll bring it back in. But as it stands, it's fairly simple to either buy lots of rations or hunt and gather in most places.
But a normal resource tracking management I don't particularly enjoy.
but...if something happens like a mummy's curse type thing where all food and water is spoiled, then they've got to figure out how to get to food and water.
or if they lose all their money or something

@NautArch I turned on the arrows tracking in r20 for one of my groups. for the other one it's not worth doing. And if I tell them 'you are getting short on food' they tend to forage. We have barbarians in each group. Food is whatever you eat, right? 😜 It does not have to be an MRE

@KorvinStarmast yeah, that's why i don't really track it.
If there's a need for the story, then i'm all in.

3:55 PM
If I ever play "out of the abyss" I guess we will have to.

but otherwise it seems way too piddly and fiddly. And the ammo thing seems to just be there to make being ranged harder.

@NautArch yes, yes it does.
more hate on Rangers, I guess. 😛

@KorvinStarmast and for no good reason. In my player campaign, we're entering avernus (finally!). Not sure what DM will do there.

@NautArch The thing about arrows is that you can recover some after each battle, but you eventually run out. Or, you can play with a creation bard who can make you some arrows ex nihilo ... I think.
Yep, for examples of what you can create, see the equipment chapter of the Players Handbook The bard can make some arrows, one per six second action, that last for "as many hours as proficiency bonus." Use them first!😎

@KorvinStarmast i just don't see the need for that mechanic.

4:03 PM
Oh, wait, you can make one per short rest.
@NautArch "Here, Ranger, is an arrow. Loose it wisely. You don't get another one for an hour"
@NautArch whoops, once per long rest.

womp womp womp
I learned something new last night (hopefully.) AMD processors are much more finicky with what RAM works with them.

Bard: "Here, I make a rations." Barbarian looks at Bard: "For this, you went to college?"

@KorvinStarmast Barbarian-Parent

@NautArch I was thinking more along the lines of "I hunt my game fresh, you can keep your rations"
To get her to shut up, he slips a bit of poison ivy into her salad sometimes ...
college of creation is sooo fiddly ...
But that dancing item could be a complete gas. A barroom brawl breaks out. Bard targets a barstool which begins to kick butt. Instant bouncer. (Knock out at 0 HP, melee attack)
and then one day, bard targets a large table to animate and it doesn't work. Mimic detection! 😁

4:20 PM
new dungeon idea: everything's a mimic
Wall? nope, mimic
loot chest? mimic
Table? also a mimic
That guy in the corner? not a mimic, but he is a doppleganger

@RevenantBacon Tasha's has freaking Mimic Colonies in the book. (Yeah, they went there. Crawford and Perkins probably got drunk one night and said "We need to improve on the Endless Decanter Maynaisse idea - let's go with mimic colonies!" Chug! )

Q: Has there ever been an official "Room of Death"?

TrishD&D knows Mimics and their relatives, the Lurker and Trapper. They are aberrations that mimicpun intended the floor and ceiling and have been used in conjunction with a stunjelly for years to make a room that lusts for adventurers to eat. Yes, the room will eat you. For example in this 2010 Screa...

Not quite new

In Russia, Dining Room eats you ... got it.

This reminds me of a haunted house scenario I was once working on that devolved into a mess of puns almost instantly
To get upstairs, first you must get a bucketful of stairs from the stairwell
Beware of the skeletons in the closet, but Grandfather Clock is friendly. The room he in, though, will attack you (it's the Living Room)
The Guest Room has good loot, but you need to time the exploration well because it's just visiting and will get on with its journey eventually

Does all of the basement belong to us?

4:33 PM
Oh I defimitely had something for that
Do not open the storm cellar.
Or touch the contraptions in the bomb shelter.

@kviiri I ran a larp game once, where the plot centered around a mansion full of animated objects.
The system had a spell called Air Blast, which dealt damage
Well when floating chairs hit the players, we had to call it Chair Blast

Tegel Manor: old school haunted house adventure. Good stuff. I was supposed to get a 5e copy of that from a kick starter, it never showed up.

@SPavel I somehow remember that many years ago, somehow in the age of the 3rd edition I think, far before Sharknado was a thing one of my friend came up with the spell "Brayorm"
May 21 '18 at 15:07, by Derpy
"Summon donkey storm"
Later, I remembered that the spell was actually called "Braygnarok"
And yep, it made donkeys rain from the sky.
Because.

amazing

4:49 PM
@ThomasMarkov Yeah, but that's a single room. I'm talking like, the entire place

@RevenantBacon Did the house mimic eat the other mimics?

5:11 PM
Just spent $770 fixing on of my cars

@ThomasMarkov loser. Just spent 1200.
:P

What was wrong with yours?

Went in to put winter tires on, and after only a bit over 30k, I needed new brakes.

BORING

hahahaha

5:12 PM
Wanna see what happened to mine?

pretty miffed to need them so soon.
i do!

what did you dooooo?

The strut assembly punched through the body
When they put it on the lift the whole strut fell out

and that's only 770?

5:19 PM
Yeah.
New struts and camber bolts, realignment, and patch welding the gaping hole in the body where the strut was mounted.

@ThomasMarkov I didn't think unarmed strike would do enough damage to go through

@AncientSwordRage THe minivan has tavern brawler.
2
dang, they're decomissioning Arecibo observatory.

@NautArch what? Why?

@BardicWizard apparently, lots of structural damage, little maintenance over the past years due to lack of funds, and the fact that it's in a territory makes it unlikely to recover. So they decomissioned.

@NautArch oh dear :(
