Seems someone beat me to it!
@Ben Should it be "Dell Children's Hospital", by the way?

If ya like it, then you should have put a Star on it! (to mis-quote a popular singer)

@NautArch My reply got scooped up into the not a bar move ... I was sorting out what the cleric and bard might be doing, but the cleric usually puts up bless ...

Q: Lvl20 Samurai+true strike=9 attacks all with advantage?

LordMARS007If I've got to level 20 with samurai and I've taken the magic initiate feat for true strike. Can I use true strike turn1, then on turn2 use rapid strike to turn it into 2 attacks giving me 5 regular attacks+4 more from action surge. Then use my bonus action to use fighting spirit. Are all 9 atta...

Q: Would Using Thaumaturgy Give Advantage to Intimidation?

J. WagnerBasically just what the question sates. Let's say I used thaumaturgy to create a booming voice, make the ground tremor, and start a rumble of thunder while suggesting someone to do something in an attempt to intimidate them. Would that impose an advantage on the intimidation? Maybe not so much ...

@BlackSpike I'm gonna check if it's okay to share the Drive sheet we were using for our last game.

@BESW ok cool
I knocked a quick "here are some numbers for you goblins" together.

12:48 AM
Looking at it now.
I like it. Also needs the shared Teethiness score.

@BESW aha. Yes, teethiness can be added easily
not final version :)

A place to track Junk as well as track everyone's junk dice would be nice.

and Junk ... is that per-goblin .. AND total?

Junk is a ship stat. Junk dice are collected by goblins individually while raiding. At the end of the raiding phase each goblin's junk dice are rolled and the totals added to the ship's Junk stat.
The ship's Junk is reduced when it's used as a resource during the jump phase, and it serves as the ship's HP during the raiding phase.
So for the ship, Junk is just another number that goes up and down.
For goblins, it's tracking different quantities of different sizes of dice.

so ... yes? On a Raid, each gobbo needs Junk ... and Ship has it's own junk? OK, will re-read, and incorporate

12:53 AM
Goblins don't have junk scores, they have pools of junk dice.
The ship has a junk score, not a pool of junk dice.

aye
Busy weekend, we're celebrating burning a Catholic ... I mean, harvest/end of summer ... <insert your own Autumn Festival> ... and my mate's birthday!

Many happy returns of the day to them!

RPG night Monday ... I reckon I' can have something end of next week :) Might even find some art for it :)
Ooh, Junk Dice can be d6, d8, d10? ok, that complicates things ... but not much , really ...
Number Juggling ... computers are traditionally suited to such tasks ! :D
I shall try to get our group to play Space Goblins. We have "off weeks" when we don't have Quorum for the Main Game, and pass the time with other stuff

It's fun and silly, though the text is a little clunky.

@BESW yeah, not the easiest to read ... but does look fun
Not sure how some of our group will react ... it's a Board Game ... but you're supposed to do Role Play .... kinda falls between two horses ...
Might work. I Like it

Kickstarter: MoonPunk A tabletop roleplaying game about fighting oppression on The Moon. #RecognizeKSRU

A "<noun>punk" game, that is actually Punk*! Looks good!
I love the low-level pledge! pdf is $15. Or $7 if you can't pay $15.

*your Punk may vary.

I know, right. Between that and Balikbayan and The Queer Cyberpunk's Guide to Tabletop RPGs, I feel like there might actually still be some punk left kicking in the TTRPG body.
Oh, and Ruralpunk looks promising.

I didn't try Vajra's RentPunk, as it was too close to home ... can you hustle enough to pay your rent this month? Very 'gritty'.

It's not punk if it doesn't make you a bit squirmy, but yeah, no need to go digging for pain except on your own terms.

I'm open to "punk" dying the death it deserved at the end of the '70s, and letting someone else take over ... but it is a Big Flag to replace ...

1:41 AM
And, yeah. The problem with classic/original punk is that it's got no endgame. Stuff like Balikbayan, though...

yeah, that's my point, Punk doesn't need an end-game, as it isn't the end. It's a means towards an end
We did that, now we build on that, and move forwards ...

Aye. Balikbayan feels a lot better as a punk successor than, say, Misspent Youth.

struggling to find Balikbayan ... Google-fu failing me

Balikbayan: Returning Home by Jamila R. Nedjadi.

OW! The 90's called, they want their webpage back!!! :D
Sorry, knee-jerk. I'll read ...

1:46 AM
The word balikbayan means, roughly, to repatriate. It's used to describe people returning to the Philippines, or the care packages that people living overseas send home to their families.

aha. Google showed me Bilikbayan Boxes.

I haven't had time to read the manual yet, but I'm excited about it.

have bookmarked for later perusal

I grew up watching people mail balikbayan boxes.

Cool.

Long, rambling story, if you care to hear it ... I grew up in suburban/rural White surroundings
My grandparents lived on the edge of the city, in Indian Ghetto (not as rough/poor as some you may imagine, but for our area ... considered Low Class)

I always like to hear peoples' stories, but if it's super long and tangenty then the Not A Bar would be a better place.
...also I gotta run, getting picked up for lunch.
ttfn!

have fun!

Anyone know if there is an equivalent FAQ to "[not in citation given]"?

@V2Blast On Wikipedia there is a tag [not in citation given] that is used when a citation is referenced but it does not support the statements that are citing it. For example; "Dogs have 6 legs" [citing some dog website]. Is there an equivalent FAQ that deals with quoting rules when the rules don't actually agree with the statement?

By "FAQ" in your message, do you just mean a template and/or inline tag?
Outside of the Wikipedia context, if you're talking about that happening here and you wanting to point that out in a comment or something, you can just... write that out. "The rule you quote doesn't seem to match your assertion."

Q: Is this Forest Gnome Warlock character build legal?

KlaymenDKI'm playing a DnD-5e campaign with some co-workers; it's my first role-playing in, oh, decades and something like my 4th character ever. I know when to ask for help. Help! I'm instructed to create a 4th-level character to join an existing party, and I had in mind to create a very, very old femal...

Q: Can an NPC cast a spell with a higher spell slot?

Olivier GrégoireAn Archmage has a spell slot for 9th level spells, and knows Magic Missile. As the DM, can I make my Archmage NPC cast Magic Missile with a level 9 slot, creating 11 darts instead of just 3? Or is it only PCs that can cast spells with a higher spell slot?

Q: What to do when a new user creates a second account to edit "their" question?

NathanSRecently, I was involved with a question (now deleted, 10k only) where the original user, "Jason", made a second account, "Jason", and tried to edit "their" question. It was pretty obvious that it was the same user, but technically there was no way to be sure, so I rejected the edit. However, the...

I'm doing another TTRPG table at a con next weekend, and I'm trying to identify something other than Lady Blackbird that I can showcase.
LB is great: it's free; it's got clear, simple rules; it's got fun pre-made characters who are easy to customize through play; it uses commonly shared pop culture touchstones unlike anything D&D traditionally offers; it supports combat and non-combat competence modes equally well and simultaneously or consecutively.
But it takes at least an hour to play to a satisfying conclusion, usually more than that, and it's just one very specific aesthetic.
I'm going through my games trying to see if there's anything else I can add to my table which fits those good qualities of LB, and/or replaces them with other excellent qualities to showcase the broader world of TTRPGs and/or attract people who wouldn't be interested in "typical" TTRPGs, but in a tighter time-frame.
GSS would be good, except it's not free (I really like telling people they can start playing it with their friends at no cost) and the mechanics are a bit too clunky for streamlining con play.

@BESW Have you tried, for different aesthetics, hackbird games? Things like Bloody Forks of the Ohio or other settings with the same system?

3:57 PM
I don't know if much of the D&D 4e people are here at the moment, but I'm trying to get ready some character sheets and I have UX questions which I don't believe are good for the main site.
Like, knowing that I have to make pregens for a one-shot with people that won't be able to study their sheets in advance, is it better if I print power cards or would a list of powers divided by action type be better? (I'm going for the second but it looks a very wall-of-text-ey infodump.
The aim of the sheets should be to make it easy to quickly decide what to do in combat.

Q: Does an NPC stat block get racial bonuses added to it?

NathanSSpecifically, there is a character in the Curse of Strahd (p. 133): Also, it's worth pointing out that (from p. 119): The only example I know of (in Curse of Strahd, at least) of an NPC statblock given to a non-human race is: In the former case, no changes are specified at all, only an a...

Q: Can Elves move when they Trance?

Gael LElves have the Trance trait: Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is "trance.") While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become ref...

@Zachiel I haven't found a lot of hackbird stuff that really appeals to me? Also, one thing I really want in an alternate game is the ability to play with just one passer-by.

@Someone_Evil jinx

@Carcer That's one of the stranger distributions I've seen in a while

mm
it's biased very high

It's actually interesting how the number of dice in the pool affects the distribution. It has the same outcome space, but with more dice biases more towards the higher numbers, but also away from numbers like 61
