So, here are some quick gotchas for starting off in ONI. Always build a outhouse and washing basin in your first cycle.

Your dupes are going to poop every cycle and if you don't provide outhouses, they'll create poop water.

And if you don't provide washing basins, pooping is going to create food poisoning germs.

TBH the ecological collapse in ONI was mostly my fault. I was too afraid of setting up any electrolysis, so I was convinced I could completely take care of my oxygen needs with algae.

Listen here, Janice. You don't know for sure what happens to raiders that get shipped to that mountain lair, and it sure isn't any of your business what's in the food that gets shipped back.

Lights do provide nice decor buffs, but you can just put down some potted plants or whatever.

I'm always entertained when I look back at the story of the original tribe or crash landers. Found themselves on a hostile planet, made the best out of it by building and trading. Finally got a spaceship assembled to get off the rock, then bled out after an attack from a pack of manhunting emus while the colony surgeon enjoyed a fine meal.

Come to think of it, that might be an adaptable story for ars magica. There are some interesting rules for swapping out body parts for magical ones. Could go millenium man with it or robocop or winter soldier. We'll see where the troupe goes!

Probably Millenium Man. I expect they'll take that avenue as it's more emotionally satisfying and interesting.

If the question is, "is this your personal experience?", for me the answer has been "yes." Adding the statement "Something similar happened for me, and this was my personal experience." does not add to the answer.

I'm totally on board if the language of the answer reads like something is suspected to be throwing spaghetti on the wall. E.g. "why don't you just try ..." That's not definitive, but might add to the spider sense that it's an off the cuff suggestion without much experience driving the answer.

heh, I had a question with call lightning and looking at our various Q&A, in aggregate, I figured out an answer. RPGSE for the win! In my brother's world the party is about to be attacked by a shaman leading some bad guys. He's based off of the druid / priest hybrid NPC ... and if they don't get a good perception roll, the first they'll know is that lightning comes down from above and hits one of them. Should be a fun fight.
