I ran into this facinating way to become a lich in another system. Cast raise dead on yourself with your dying breath. No philactory.
It would be hilarious doing this with a scroll as a ranger or something

@Bloodcinder <3
guess what, you guys?
the IRL group I'm DMing LMOP for finally had a session for the first time in like 2 months! (it was delayed a while due to scattered availability and illness)

@V2Blast mazel tov! how was the session?

4:29 AM
my players tend to be easily distracted, and one player tends to tire from longer sessions/if we play too late, but we started around 7:15 pm EST and managed to wrap up by 10:15 or so. they basically just knocked on a door, failed to convince the bugbears on the other side, and dealt with the fight
our wizard cast Blur on himself before they went in and had the Staff of Defense, so he just charged into the room after the door was opened and managed to not get hit once (though he did have to cast Shield once)
He tried to convince the apparently hungry bugbears they had food, but rolled a nat. 1 with a -1 Persuasion mod. the bugbears moved their barricades and opened the door after muttering their plans to kill the intruders and take their food (or use them as food), so naturally it ended up being a fight
I ended the session right after the fight... wizard player was already conking out

Curious for anyone who's used both: How similar do warlocks and Eldritch Knights feel in combat? Been building up an Eldritch Knight archer idea in my head as an option for my next campaign that starts up, but I started having the worry that EK with a bow is going to feel a lot like my current eldritch blaster warlock. I think having a different variety of spells available and action surge is enough to make it feel different, plus I have a very different out-of-combat skillset, but unsure.

Warlocks feel warm and squishy and maybe a little sticky, while eldritch knights feel cold and smooth and a little static-shock-y.

Depends how you build the warlock. Generally they depend on their cantrips more than EKs do.
Warlocks will tend to have more debuffs like enchantments and tricky whatnots, they aren't limited to blasting. Whereas EK magic is mostly limited to damage and damage defense.

I'm kind of figuring the EK has the flexibility to go in and tank if necessary, putting away the bow, pulling out a rapier/shield and using... well, shield. I'm kind of assuming a lot of my lv 1 & 2 slots are going to be spent on shield and maybe some kind of mobility like misty step.

If there's any role crossover, it's with Hexblade and a melee focused EK.
Warlocks also tend to have more noncombat supernatural utility, depending on your choices of invocations. Not so much with EK.

has anyone else here ever hit the length limit on Stack answers?

5:27 AM
@MikeQ Yeah, I think the extent of that in my plan is one of my non-Evo/Abj spells being knock

mornin

top of the mornin to ye

kinda related to roleplaying, reading through wrath and glory
and you know how there's 2 version of a charachter?\
the actual charachter as written
and the meme version?

5:43 AM
yes the 40k extended universe is mostly memes

Sigmar's Meme version is basically the same as his actual charachter

The emperor uses memetic psychic powers to keep the chaos gods at bay; therefore the imperium depends on memes to establish order

I mean more like how there's vulcan as written
a serious dude
and then there's hugs with jamacian accent
or how Deathwatch for most people who actually play it
is an excuse to scream BROTHER at each other for the entire session

I haven't picked up Wrath and Glory yet, although I think inquisitor @Ben has at least skimmed the rulebook

@MikeQ Metal Gear Solid 2 is kind of a fun game to play in retrospect, with the game often revolving around the concept of memes before the word meant wacky internet antics.
If the re-re-release it, I vouch for them renaming the Philosophers into the Memelords.

@Shalvenay I think I did once a long time ago, but can't recall which of my overly long answers it was. I recently made what I think was an overly long answer on Christianity.SE but it was still inside the limit.

Q: Grammar: Do we say "The RAW" or simply "RAW"?

TigerDMHello fellow grammarians, I'm fairly new the board, so forgive me if this has already been covered but...do we have a preferred style? My question specifically regards the "RAW" (rules as written) acronym? Generally, the style tends towards not using the article "the" in front of acronyms b...
