@Rubiksmoose Psionic Restoration. Once the Mystic becomes capable of outputting 5 PSI points of power (5th level; basically equivalent to third level spells, as one might expect) the 5 PSI feature of that Discipline can cast Revivify with no material component.
Or, more precisely: it causes an effect that is, in mechanical effect, identical to Revivify.
> Restore Life (5 psi). As an action, you touch one creature that has died within the last minute. The creature returns to life with 1 hit point. This ability can't return to life a creature that has died of old age, nor can it restore a creature missing any vital body parts.
They also get Greater Restoration as part of that same discipline.
> Restore Vigor (7 psi). As an action, you can touch one creature and choose one of the following: remove any reductions to one of its ability scores, remove one effect that reduces its hit point maximum, or reduce its exhaustion level by one.
@Rubiksmoose Probably. I'm sure it got a lot of feedback about being too versatile and such, and being weird as its own totally separate system from magic
@Rubiksmoose Disciplines are like memorized spells for Sorcerers, Warlocks, etc. They learn a certain amount over their progression and can swap one of them out each level up.
Each Discipline has a "Focus" ability (think Channel Divinity, but passive) and then like 4-5 abilities that each require PSI use.
@Xirema that sounds pretty powerful but not substantially more powerful than a class that can cast Revivify w/ material components. It only requires, what, a diamond/diamonds worth 100 gold?
@Xirema Well, that's a fair point; I'm not familiar with psionics (never played/watched pre-5E) or the proposed class for Mystic, but I expect there will be some other drawbacks/limitations to the class
> Mystical Recovery. Immediately after you spend psi points on a psionic discipline, you can take a bonus action to regain hit points equal to the number of psi points you spent.
"Why yes, I would like to have a +4 weapon at level 9, that sounds just lovely! What? I can get that for the sole cost of a 5th level spell slot for 10 minutes with no concentration? Aww gee, that sounds swell!"
Like, to be fair, the DMG does specify +4 weapons as a theoretical possibility for Top Tier characters.
Like, +4, but no other additional features or effects of the weapon makes it a Legendary quality item.
But still...
I dunno. Maybe I shouldn't be too harsh. I don't think they would have released this as playtest material if they didn't think there were issues with it.
But a lot of this stuff also seems like really obvious, first-pass editing stuff.
> Order of the Wu Jen, Arcane Dabbler. At 6th level, you learn three wizard spells of your choice and always have them prepared. The spells must be of 1st through 3rd level. As a bonus action, you can spend psi points to create spell slots that you can use to cast these spells, as well as other spells you are capable of casting. The psi-point cost of each spell slot is detailed on the table below. [Insert Sorcerer Flexible Casting Table]
@Xirema Given that the song has been featured in various places, such as Iron Man 3, you could be pretty young and still obsessed with the song as a kid.
Never describe anything that you're not prepare to make the sole focus of a minor story arc spanning multiple sessions
Also, never give any friendly NPC a distinct personality that you're not willing to let your players "adopt" and drag along with them because they think the NPC is cool/has something to hide/will serve as a good meat shield.
@MikeQ I think this is more like you leaving some metal scraps lying around and your players MacGuyver-ing one gun, model "Chekhov", out of it and pointing it at you ;)
@ACuriousMind also never make one single NPC the lynchpin of the current plot, because they will almost certainly either completely avoid the NPC or immediately murder them, whichever one is more likely to derail everything
