@PeterCooperJr. Late response regarding those stat changes: as far as I can tell, they were made because the stats were originally calculated wrong. The black/brown bear had a to-hit bonus of (+1+Str) though their proficiency bonus presumably should have been +2, so that was fixed in the PHB and MM. Warhorse/Riding Horse had the same issue that was apparently already fixed in the MM, but is now fixed in the PHB too.
And the Purple Worm was apparently missing its proficiency bonus from the to-hit entirely
There is one issue with the MM errata that someone noticed, though
"In the new MM errata, the demilich has the following change:

> Demilich (p. 48). Hit points: 80 (32d4) [was 20d4].

This change makes sense normally. 32*2.5=80, whereas 20*2.5=50.

The issue, though, is that the demilich has a block of flavor text in its description, that says roughly the following (I'll copy the full text when I consult my MM):

> "The demilich has such a strong will to live that it takes the maximum roll when it rolls for max HP"

This means that a demilich is supposed to take 20*4=80 when rolling for HP.
basically, the hit dice fix would be correct if not for the demilich's descriptive text
but the text says:
> Undead Nature. A demilich doesn’t require air, food, drink, or sleep. So great is a demilich’s will to survive that it always has the maximum number of hit points for its Hit Dice, instead of average hit points.

Oh yeah, I understand the changes, now that I see them. I guess I'm just surprised that they weren't noticed/fixed earlier.
Particularly as the bears are a popular druid shapechanging choice.

yeah. I imagine few people actually compared their Str to their to-hit bonus and noticed the small difference compared to other monsters
the Purple Worm issue is more surprising, but I guess not that many people end up using/fighting those?

And I'd never noticed the horse discrepancy between my PHB and MM before
I had thought that I'd gotten my 5E books late enough (a bit over a year ago?) that there wasn't going to be more errata coming.

Haha. This is the first really major errata, I think. Most of the previous ones have been fairly minor sets of fixes (individually)

Hello.

Hola hola.

There's life here! :p

1:42 PM
Sometimes. So what's up? Just stopping by to say hi?

Yup, mostly. Thought I'd see what's going on the chats of the various sites I'm part of

2:24 PM
And yet with all that errata, they still didn't fix that the Alignment rules call unicorns Chaotic Good, while the monster manual entry for Unicorn says they're Lawful Good.

@PeterCooperJr. I've seen Cabin in the Woods. Unicorns are clearly neither of those =)

@nitsua60 @NautArch @Shalvenay @MikeQ @Rubiksmoose I decided to go all in with my Spiritual weapon answer, to include a combat illustration. Our group (brother is DM) in the shared world still can't figure this out. Please offer critiques and suggestions.
@PeterCooperJr. So, which alignment do you want them to be? LG? CG? or, split the difference and make them NG.

hey there @BuddhiniAngelika, welcome to the RPG.SE lair :)

@Shalvenay Hello
:) :) :)

Hello everyone

7:24 PM
@kviiri hello, going to and from keyboard as I mess about in the kitchen ...

7:35 PM
@kviiri Hi!
I managed to get a Gargoyle Earth Elementalist past all the Priests of Beogh down to level 7 or so. Where I ran into Joseph and died to his slingshot while retreating.
Next one did again succom to Beogh's smiting.
@BuddhiniAngelika Hi there!
(@kviiri got me into Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, a nice Roguelike computer game, so I'm reporting in.)

:)
I just had a shower thought, thinking about HTTP 3 replacing TCP with a UDP-based protocol, that it's no wonder RPG scheduling is hard --- it's a well-known fact that scheduling anything is impossible on a theoretical level unless we assume 100% reliable communications

I still don't know what to do about orc priests. Breaking line of sight is often surprisingly difficult, and even if I manage, there might be an orc, and a priest following me around a corner and I'm smitten.

@Anaphory Killing them ASAP is usually the way to go, but there's some caveats (eg. the potential horde of orcs in between)

@kviiri Earth Elementalist spells have range only 3 or 4, thrown weapons are unreliable an scarce, missile weapons require changing to them. What's best?

7:50 PM
@Anaphory Sandblast works wonders if you can get close enough
(without orcs in between...)
Retreating a bit can help there (you can find a convenient corner where the priest has to come in range to smite)

@kviiri Yes, that is the bit I find quite difficult to have far too often.

Tbh I don't know how I survive orc priests
I should take notes when I play :D

@kviiri Hm. Just like there is Email and then there is mostly-compatible-but-doesn't-like-threads-and-some-other-things GMail, will this lead to HTTP and GTTP?

@Anaphory No idea! But the idea sounds workable, I guess
I mean, the bit where TCP is replaced with a more tailored protocol

8:19 PM
@KorvinStarmast Link, when you've a chance?

9:37 PM
@nitsua60 here it is

9:57 PM
@KorvinStarmast I didn't downvote. It's well-organized although it may be longer than needed. I'm always in favor of examples, but the play-by-play example gives the answer a lot of excess detail.

@MikeQ Thanks. For beginners, it might be helpful, for veterans I can definitely see your point.
@MikeQ My brother has been with this edition since 2014, and still doesn't get it. ;)
I made an edit that answered more of the question 'up front' with the example left for those who need it.

You may want to simplify the example to just two parts - cleric's actions on turn 1 (bonus action to cast, then free attack w spirit weapon), and cleric's actions on turn 2-10 (bonus action to attack w spirit weapon)
@KorvinStarmast On an semirelated topic, were you able to access the roll20 game and fill in character stuff?

@MikeQ Have not yet opened roll20, will do so now. Will consider trimming the answer to account for our short attention span audience. I do need to consider the audience ...
@MikeQ where is the invite? Discord? Email?

Q: Are these "is it possible to double your proficiency twice" questions duplicates?

HellSaintIs it possible to double your proficiency bonus twice? Do features that allow you to add twice your proficiency bonus, under some other name, stack with Expertise?
