12:08 AM
@BlackVegetable One of my groups has been "on hold" for literally years, because of changing work commitments of a couple of players. Years. No exaggeration.

1 hour later…
1:12 AM
@BlackVegetable wow, I got sick a couple days ago, all I think I get out of it is skipping work today, unless I end up needing to miss tomorrow too. and honestly I would just rather not be sick and go to work XD

2 hours later…
3:15 AM
@trogdor when I'm sick I tend to work from home, without sick leave. So, illness is no-no anyway.

1 hour later…
4:40 AM
@RollingFeles ah, that sucks
when I am sick I don't need the extra exhaustion or stress from work, so that is a no-no

5:09 AM
Well, it depends on a sickness. I can get a paid sick leave. But in most cases with something like cold or similar not very serious sickness I continue to work.

5:22 AM
@Anaphory Well, the hemisphere currently in winter also hosts the majority of the world's English speaking folks, as well as the majority of folks

@RollingFeles if what I had was not quite as bad as it is I might have gone in, but it is just bad enough that I don't want to drive, and the extra stress of work itself would not be great in my condition either

5:45 AM
@JoelHarmon hi! Have you read Suddenly ogres ?

6:32 AM
@trogdor The best sick days are when you're just sick (or contagious) enough to stay home, but still well enough to play videogames, watch TV, or whatever.

6:46 AM
@Adeptus If I'm able to play videogames, in most cases I'm able to work too :)
IMHO the best sick days are not sick days :)
@Magician hello!

hi

How're things? Have you run any more games for children?

@RollingFeles If you can work from home, yeah. If you can't...

The library hasn't tried to organize another event like that so far, so nope.
And our actual gaming group is on a bit of a fritz, with people intermittently being sick, busy or taking care of small chidren...

@Magician roleplayer's sickness is on it's way to be a trend here :(

7:20 AM
@Adeptus no argument against that from me
I am just a little sicker than that though, so I have been spending roughly half of my time today asleep
the other half does allow for some recreational activities though
@Adeptus yeah, I have to go into a stressful office, and drive myself there and back to boot, so yeah no. working from home would raise the bar of sickness there

7:44 AM
I have only had an honest to goodness office job for one year, but for someone such as myself, just being stuck in a place with the same people every week day is in itself stressful

@trogdor I have another problem with that.
It's not stressful for me. We have a very friendly environment and it's nice to be around.
But it became too comfortable. And I'm becoming less productive.

ah
it must be partly down to differences in our relation towards other people in general, though to be fair, I dislike only one person in my office,.... everyone else is at least ok

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is about differences in a first place.

I am not the best people person
I like a lot of time by myself, and then the rest of it with very few people who I like a lot

But my colleagues is not just ok. Most of them are great and pleasant people.

7:52 AM
I am very glad for repeated experience in dealing with being stuck with people, both from this job and before it

Yeah, I can understand that.

but if it were up to my decision given some kind of ultimate power, I would be living in a cloud and only descending to see specific people on visits XD

=)
Funny thing. My previous job had much younger collective, than this. And it was far from pleasant comparing to current.

my job has people who might either be about my age or younger
I am not 100% sure on people's ages at all though, because they run a mini spectrum of it's own on emotional maturity level, which for all but one of them is not an issue with me

When I joined this company 2 years ago average age here was about 30+. And it was(and is, but we have a lot of young blood here) very comfortable. Experienced adults, without stupid issues trying to be cool guys or whatever. They are not perfect, of course, as any human being. But you mostly expect young collective to be more fluid and comfortable, but in reality youth issues create the opposite.

7:58 AM
yeah I hear you, I am approaching 30 myself, and some of the people working here might be barely in their 20's if not a little younger
that brings with it certain inclinations to try to prove themselves "cool"
which manifest in various semi annoying but bearable ways,.. and in one way that feels downright alien to me in a way

Of course, there are a lot of companies where old habits and inflexibility creates a cold environment. But company leadership put a lot into creating friendly environment and first of all by showing it by themselves.
@trogdor yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

I do hate to pin certain behaviors on "younger people" but the evidence kinda points in that direction to some extent

And, of course, wise management is the key for a social and work comfort.
@trogdor that's okay. It's natural for humans. Experience and responsibility will shape all of us in time.

that is fair enough yeah
I take my job largely as a learning experience anyway, part of what I am learning is ever stronger techniques in not judging other people too harshly

I'm 24 and I can't say that I don't have some youngster's annoying things in my behaviour. But I'm much better than 4-6 years ago and I try to learn from wise people around me :)
@trogdor that's very good point!
I think that's a very-very crucial point in communication with other people. We all have so much strange differences, everyone have their own issues, thoughts, scars and habits.

8:10 AM
@RollingFeles I make that point partly because I have needed to learn that skill my entire life, partly because "other people" used to be something I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes at a time

@trogdor I have some friends like you. Actually, I think everyone had this issue, but some adjusted quicker than other.

I do really like making other people happy, but I prefer to like,.... do that and then leave XD

that being said, the people who come to our Saturday Geek nights are all people I really like spending time with, the main thing being that that is a bit of a distinction between them and most other people
I think that that mostly means I need to get to know people in small groups to make the process more tolerable, preferably with at least one person I already really like being mixed in

That's natural. Even most misanthropes have a circle of close friends.

8:19 AM
I think it helps a lot that I am a very introspective person, that in itself causes me to stress out sometimes about mistakes I made like, 5 years ago, for example, but I will take that honestly XD
@RollingFeles I am not sure I would classify myself as a misanthrope (and I am of course not assuming you are either) but I certainly more towards the spectrum of an introverted person than otherwise

I have a good friend who is not social and have issues about communicating with strangers for example, but made a few new friends after I introduced him to them.
@trogdor misanthropes are just an extreme. And even they need their social circle.

@RollingFeles I did that for Troggy for a few years, while he got his feet wet.

@trogdor Oh man, I still remember the time I accidentally pointed a foreign woman in the wrong direction in the subway

@RollingFeles yeah, basically, I don't think I hit that extreme

So I can definitely understnad that.

8:31 AM
though I might possibly, tentatively, classify my much younger self under that extreme
but he isn't here to ask XD
@UristMcDorf ooh, sorry :(
that can't feel great

Nah it's okay I know I'm still a great person otherwise

@trogdor I'm sure that many could call themselves such way. But I'm sure that we just annoyed by others or don't fell ourselves comfortable and it's far from real hatred and resentment.

it's the worst when you try to help someone and,... end up doing a bit of the opposite

I try to subscribe to the Bob Ross philosophy

@RollingFeles you might also be right there
it certainly isn't real resentment for me now, at least

8:33 AM
That is, that there are no mistakes - just happy little accidents

I see the discomfort I feel in large groups of people who I don't know as a byproduct rather than any fault of said other people
that does still mean I want out of there as soon as possible though XD
@UristMcDorf that is a fantastic way to try to look at it

And I love communicating and working with people. I'm not very comfortable with total strangers though, but it's not hard for me to break an ice. I love coordinating parties and social events. And I'm truly happy when after the event I hear that it went great.

All that said I never was misanthropic or even close. Even when I used to frequent 4chan.

@RollingFeles yeah, you are sooo different from me on that point XD

Also optimism, believing that everything's gonna be okay, all that jazz
Close to RF in that regard

8:36 AM
But I also noticed that it all lead to the not caring about some of my actions. And sometimes others feel themselves uncomfortable because of me.

Actions like what? A lot of them don't need to be cared about.
Despite people claiming they do

@RollingFeles ah, weird that you mention that, I am pretty meticulous, sometimes even maybe a little crazy, about not making other people uncomfortable

Nothing really serious. I still don't care about them much, just try to make a mental note to adjust my behavior for the sake of others.

to the point that sometimes it even leads me to just not do anything at all because of the fear of doing so

Sometimes I don't care at all.

8:38 AM
Ah, interesting.
Anyway, I'd love to participate in this discussion but I gotta go. Have fun.

other times it actually leads me to engage more than I otherwise would have

@trogdor and I just try to make others happy.
@UristMcDorf bye!

@UristMcDorf see you, thanks for contributing as long as you did
@RollingFeles I certainly can't recommend that outlook enough XD

@trogdor I accept that I'm not the very best person out there. I make a lot of stupid jokes and some may find themselves uncomfortable near me. I try to adjust my behaviour, but I almost never feel sorry for myself(only when I think myself that I've done something wrong and that's not the rarest case :( )
But I try to help others, make them happy and cheer them.

@RollingFeles I do think it's largely normal to have some amount of thought in that direction

8:40 AM
Heh. I'm a social introvert: I love being around people, making friends, coordinating events, all that jazz--but it exhausts me and I can only recharge my batteries when I'm totally alone.

any amount of introspection on the part of anyone who isn't at least a little self obsessed is likely going to lead to self judgement
@BESW same, though from my perspective you don't always seem that way XD

@BESW it's exhausting for me too and I love to be alone sometimes(playing video games for hours, lol). But long time without active social interactions makes me feel empty.

that being said, I usually see you only once a week soooooo
XDXD
@RollingFeles yeah, daily amounts of social interaction that I usually can't avoid are usually more than I want to not feel "empty" or "alone" like that
my favorite times are when I am house sitting for someone else who has pets

@trogdor self judgement is a must. But it must be constructive and must inspire yourself for changes. Sometimes it's not that way and one just scold themselves and feel bad.

during times like those I can be by myself a lot more, and any company I feel like I need I can get from the animals
@RollingFeles yeah, it does need to be pursued in a healthy way for sure
I guess animals are less stressful company partly because I don't expect them to judge me XD
and if they want my attention they don't demand that I say words

8:47 AM
I sometimes get a similar effect from cemeteries.

@BESW Dead don't judge, eh? :)
stupid joke, sorry :)

No, that's about right.

@BESW not sure I could pull the same thing from those

There was a lovely cemetery across the street from my college campus. It kinda freaked people out that I'd go there to unwind, but they didn't have the same cultural context for cemeteries that I did.

@trogdor I think I care about judgement from several people: close friends, my mentors, my players and in different ways. I know so much shit about myself, so the mine first and foremost judge is me. I like when other judge me positively, because that means that I'm making good progress in shaping myself in a good way. But I know many issues with me and I'm trying to be in a constant work for improving myself.
For example: I procrastinate too much at work lately. Just like now: chatting with you guys :D

8:52 AM
@BESW it isn't so much being "freaked out" for me, so much as that I would see a cemetery as a place I am alone more so than a place where I am only hanging out with the dead
I think animals work as company because they still like,... breathe

Between my time with the local culture and the teachings of my faith, I have a strong sense that the dead are very much present, but that only the benevolent ones have any power.

@RollingFeles knowing yourself can be a burden, but it is the first step to improving what you know XD
@BESW I would not disagree with that so much as I would say that that is not an active outlook of mine

46 mins ago, by trogdor
I take my job largely as a learning experience anyway, part of what I am learning is ever stronger techniques in not judging other people too harshly
And when you think about yourself and judge yourself, you realize that others don't deserve harsh judging :)

Yeah. You probably didn't spend one Sunday a month with a bunch of people washing the graves of family and friends, for most of your childhood.

@BESW no I indeed did not
to be fair, I have also just not spent much time in cemeteries overall
also, I think a separate part of why I like animal company so much, at the very least as far as pets are concerned, is that they have needs I can fulfil, especially for cats, I can spend just a little time hanging out with them and they are satisfied with company at about the same rate I am, and I can clean out their litter boxes and feed them, and get a certain amount of satisfaction in those tasks of providing for a physical need in another living thing
granted, cats are not the absolute most grateful creatures, but I find I don't mind that very much
they don't have higher expectations from me than I do of myself, so it is all good XD

9:07 AM
Cats show their graditute, but it happens almost always much later.

yeah

Especially, next time when they ask you to give them food :D

no immediate gratification

Seriously, cats love humans and their love and trust incredible. It's just a matter of earning this trust or showing that you'd like that at all.

yeah that all makes sense for sure

9:09 AM
One of my cats get used to the fact that I always lay him down carefully. And so if he slips from my hands with his tummy upwards he will just fall like that :)

they just don't constantly display it like say, dogs

Yeah, but even they can show their love often. It depends on the cat and you relationship with them.

in point of fact actually, I have two cats, one of which has attached itself to me on an emotional level I never thought possible for cats, and she has done this for a looooong time
but recently, the other cat, who I have previously thought of as an incredibly myopic, antisocial, devil cat monster, has started hanging out with me a lot more on a completely non compulsory level

it's satisfying that he took so long to like me but basically does now

9:12 AM
That's because your brother is no longer around, so he's got this gap in his schedule where "plot Melon's demise" used to be.

@BESW that is fair yeah
though the timeline doesn't add up entirely there

My mother has incredible connection with her cats. She got three of them: mother-cat, father-cat and their son. Mother-cat is especially caring for my mother. She always show compassion and worry if my mother doesn't feel ok.

took him a long time after my brother left to fill that spot in his schedule

9:35 AM
@JoelHarmon One of the cases is Papua (well, she's back in Europe now), which is equatorial Southern hemisphere.

9:55 AM
Quick 4e question - can anybody remind me of the starting HP/per level for swordmage, cleric, monk and druid? I don't have the rulebooks or charbuilder on hand.

1 hour later…
11:16 AM
@UristMcDorf nor i, but if you have a D&D Insider subscription (and that's a big "if" nowadays) you can check the compendium database.

I know, but I'm a filthy pirate in that regard.
Just can't justify the cost atm.
Though with the roubles/dollar price going down and my 4e games going up I might reconsider

Having a D&D insider account while I was playing 4e was invaluable.
@trogdor and @BESW can probably tell you as much as well.

Indeedibblydoo.

yeah that accounted for a lot of what I knew about the system back in the day
anything I didn't know I knew how to look up in that

I had a D&D Insider account back when I was playing 4e more, had a lot of money and 5e wasn't even in "playtest" (or whatever you can call that... thing) stage.
It's amazing, I know.

11:28 AM
@doppelgreener, @trogdor I have a thought about the Ancient Egypt game. It's probably very silly, but I'd like to get your reactions.

shoot

@BESW what troggy said

lol

So, a big part of what I want to do with the game is to get into their contemporary mindset instead of plastering our worldview over theirs. Hence looking for ways to incorporate everyday divine influence and have people actually have relationships with the gods.

(note to self: when speaking to trogdor, say "shoot" but not "fire away")

11:31 AM
It occurs to me that a way to visually enforce this is to reify a common artistic convention of the period: more important people are shown in art as being physically larger than the people around them.

@doppelgreener (very nice distinction, gold star)
@BESW ok? ,.... are we talking important people being literally larger in the game?

Yup.
I haven't gotten further than "Hey, that's a thing we could do," because I think it'd be really easy to make it distracting and silly. But if you guys are interested...

how many people would this potentially apply to?

At the very least, Hatshepsut would be very large and the ambassadors of each faction would be larger than normal but not as big as her.

[ponder] It's heavy handed, but workable for exactly that reason, but it may be more worthwhile to introduce everyday influence through other supernatural phenomena as well. Some people may merely be larger, others may have supernatural power.
(This may mean magic is of a cleric variety, in D&D terms.)

11:35 AM
Yeah, magic is pretty much entirely derived from the gods--but not limited to priests.

Yeah.

In Bubblegumshoe terms, everybody can have a one-point Like with a few gods, which they spend to do things like keep the evil eye off their cows--or curse their neighbour's cow--and they refresh it with rituals and prayers.
But most people put a lot of their relationship points into their friends, family, neighbours, etc. Priests put more points into the god(s) they're devoted to, and so have more divine favour to call upon for supernatural effects.
(But also have to spend a lot more time on maintaining and refreshing those relationships.)

Oh, something I learned while I was in the Louvre: Ancient Egyptian culture and art was very concerned with the afterlife. It was believed people survived in the afterlife via art and statues of themselves, and that the statues were very literally the deceased person themselves, as if the statue could get up and walk around at any moment.
There's a Pharaoh -- I can't remember which one at the moment -- whose statues were systematically defaced by his successor for this reason. Every statue had its head and hands smashed off. In a statue where the Pharaoh was depicted beside a god, the god also had its hands smashed off to prevent it from doing anything to help him. Where his name appeared, the characters were chipped off -- except for a hieroglyph in his name that represented the god of the sun, which nobody dared destroy.

That's probably Akhenaten.

It was Akhenaten's son, I think.

11:41 AM
His son was Tutankhamun.
Well, among others.

Yeah, it was Tutankhamun.

Akhenaten definitely had the erasure treatment, though, because he was a religious radical.

This is a statue of Amun, the sun god, sitting down (hands smashed off) protecting Tutankhamun (head and hands smashed off).

He wasn't the only Pharaoh to get that posthumous treatment--Hatshepsut's memory was erased as thoroughly as possible too, for example--and it's debated how much of that erasure was for spiritual reasons and how much of it was political.

This is the back of the statue. Near the top, halfway down the "hat" (actually feathers IIRC) you can see a circle followed by a blank space -- the circle and the blank space is where Tutankhamun's name was, but now on the circle's left.

11:46 AM
So far as I recall, Tutankhamun's erasure was part of a wider attempt to erase the memory of his entire dynasty.

(this is what would have been depicted there, and it means something to the effect of the Living Avatar of Amun)
@BESW Oh wow, okay. Harsh!

Akhenaten had tried to entirely re-structure the existing religious hierarchy, and nobody was happy about it. Tutankhamun changed his name from Tutankhaten to distance himself from the heresy after his father's death.
But the entire dynasty was overthrown shortly thereafter, and was subjected to what Romans would later call damnatio memoriae, "condemnation of memory."

@BESW Yeah. For those reading on, Akhenaten upended Egyptian religion during his reign in order to push near-exclusive worship of the god of the sun, and attempted to wipe out all worship and priesthoods of an opposing god (can't remember who). Those priesthoods had previously held considerable power in ancient Egypt, so it's entirely possible Ahkenaten was also making a religiously-driven move to consolidate power under himself and take it away from that priesthood.
People were not happy with this, and people made a point of erasing all traces they could of his reign and his lineage.

For our campaign I'm taking some elements of that "consolidating religious power through a shift in temple politics" notion and attributing it to Hatshepsut as well.
It's unclear exactly what Akhenaten's religious policies were, as at one point during his reign there was erasure of other gods, especially Amun who was an alternate and more popular sun deity at the time--but it's also clear there were times under Akhenaten's reign when Amun was pretty cool.
Later on Amun and Ra sort of congealed into Amun-Ra, and even later he became Zeus Ammon.
One thing it's important to understand about Egyptian theology is, it was really loose and nobody cared.
Two gods might have been brother and sister, husband and wife, father and daughter, and mother and son, depending on which town or even which temple you asked. And that was cool.
Probably one of the biggest problems with Akhenaten's religion was that he seems to have been trying to codify his nation's theology.
Contradiction wasn't a problem, so trying to create a coherent pantheon by telling some people they were wrong? That was likely what did him in.
As different parts of Egypt gained and lost power, and people moved around, various gods became more or less important, or blended together or split apart, or were equated with each other or with gods from other nearby lands.
(And, of course, even the Egyptian idea of a god is a bit... messy... for English language and culture to wrap around.)
One common definition is that we can call a "god" any being with a cult and mythos that attributed to it a connection to an aspect of reality and/or who was ritually supplicated for action related to that aspect. This includes pharaohs both live and dead.
Then there's supernatural beings who don't get that treatment (some English scholars have called them "demons" collectively), and lastly there's... people. The ones who supplicate the gods.
Oh, and it seems like the Egyptians were very aware that Gods Need Prayer Badly: the greatness of the most powerful gods was sustained by the ritual devotion of their cults.

12:19 PM
@BESW ah, that is why some Ra names are Amun-Ra, neat

@trogdor See also: Mumm-Ra.

@BESW that one I have seen less often, but yes
anyway, I am gonna get some rest, I might actually be going to work tomorrow.

ttfn

12:45 PM
@trogdor yeah that makes sense of it now

1 hour later…
1:56 PM
rpg.stackexchange.com/a/86459/9399 The first paragraph there in the incendiary ammo section... am I the only one who feels that's not necessary to answer the question?
I read that first sentence, and I'm normally fine with gore and graphic violence in my games, but when it carries over into real life like that its just upsetting. I left a comment on the answer but is this something I should flag too?

I'm not very familiar with the standards here, but I would think a comment would be the correct response, not a flag. But someone more informed should probably chime in.

Well, a flag just asks for moderator attention. It's not like a black mark on your record or something.
I went ahead and flagged it anyway. I'm not particularly sensitive but it triggered an anxious reaction in me (maybe it's because I have a dog that I love to death) and can't imagine someone with more sensitive sensibilities coming across that sentence and being okay with it.

2:29 PM
Yeah, I thought that line was overly graphic as well. I think something like "[...] 1000 shots at [various targets], they didn't find [...]" would work just as well. Possibly with some adjective(s) on 'targets' like 'living and dead'.

3:28 PM
anybody here ever run Strahd before (3.5, 5e, or otherwise?)

@LegendaryDude The guy edited the answer but I think he missed the point - only edited the first paragraph of the whole answer, not of the incendiary part.

@Euch I am 2/3rds of the way through running Strahd right now.

@LegendaryDude Awesome, I have something semi-juicy and was looking for opinions

@UristMcDorf Not even sure that edit was in response to my comment.
@Euch Whatcha got?

@LegendaryDude (How do you start private chats so we don't flood the general one?)

3:32 PM
You guys know you can also suggest edits, right?
@Euch You might stay; otherwise: Click “Site Rooms” top right, then “Create a New Room” Bottom right
That should lead you to chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/new

@Anaphory You can't suggest an edit if you have edit privileges, it just edits the question/answer. Or have I been doing it wrong all this time?

I think you are right.
Still, if it's a thing that's so relatively small content-wise but bugging or nagging, just edit that thing. Edit history is public and the OP can still roll back if they think it's important, so I don't think it does harm.

4:28 PM
@LegendaryDude Well, I now see which part was disturbing for you, but I can't understand why. We are talking about damaging living -- or at least sentient beings in that question -- vampires may feel pain in VtM (at least most of them). We discuss burning them to death. And then you call that line disturbing. Should we start a Meta discussion regarding that?

@Baskakov_Dmitriy As I said in my comment, descriptions of graphic violence in games and other fictional media are one thing.

@Baskakov_Dmitriy I'd guess it has to do with the whole "dogs are real and vampires are not" thing.

The depiction in your answer didn't actually pertain to the question at all (the question was about tracer rounds, not incendiary rounds) and described the use of live animals as targets.

People who are shot with firearms every day are also real.

Let's keep the reality where it belongs. That is, not in our fantasies.

4:32 PM
Though this does kind of remind me of the recent "PETA petitioning to remove fur from Warhammer miniatures".

Now that is funny.

@LegendaryDude You didn't hear of that?

No, I had heard of that
It's hilarious

It's a nutty publicity stunt … that worked.

@UristMcDorf Does it automatically make any argument such as "this weapon works this way IRL, so it should work this way in the game" inappropriate, because "it works this way" means "real people/animals suffered when it was used this way"?

@Baskakov_Dmitriy The problem is literally with the description. It has nothing to do with realism.
@Baskakov_Dmitriy I don't know how dogs are viewed in Russia, I really don't. But I have a dog at home, whom I love to pieces. And when I read that line in your answer I stopped reading. I just stopped. Because I love all dogs, and the thought of using dogs in that way, of them being abused in such a way is horrific to me.

@Baskakov_Dmitriy Hey, I'm just an observer, I've no qualms either way. On the other hand, I'd get fired up if, say, the description mentioned that those were dead children's limbs or something.
So I can understand LD's point of view. Just... needless detail, I guess.

@UristMcDorf Yes. Absolutely.

@Baskakov_Dmitriy No, because you can say "this weapon works this way IRL, they did experiments. You can find details (which some may find upsetting) on [some site]"

5:03 PM
Is there a way to use spoiler text for this kind of thing? That way people could effectively opt-in to reading about it?

@UristMcDorf I really enjoyed that

6:00 PM
@LegendaryDude I thought about your words a bit, and I think that you probably have a point. People should be able not to see something they find disturbing.
However, I don't think that it's a good idea to either remove such details from SE completely or making a link responsible for holding them -- even if someone things they are.

What if I make a Meta proposal which would set a standard to hide such things under spoilers?

@Baskakov_Dmitriy I don't think that in this particular case that example provided any usefulness whatsoever to the answering of the question. The question is virtually unchanged by omitting those nasty details.

6:25 PM
@LegendaryDude It is important because it shows the scale of the experiment.

@Baskakov_Dmitriy Again, the question wasn't even about incendiary rounds.
I don't think a real world experiment really matters to answer the specific question of, "Does this type of bullet hurt vampires?"

Apropos of nothing: Sometimes when confronting a person behaving poorly I address them as mate. (This is variously uses #5, #6, #7, #13, and #14 on this list, maybe all of them at once. It's a wonderful versatile word.) Sometimes, they reply with well, "mate", in quotes. As a tip: never do this. You're already using it somewhat sarcastically. So was I. It just sounds silly.
The correct course of action is to just use mate without quotes, or not use it at all.

6:45 PM
@doppelgreener That's how we use "dude" here in the northeastern States.

@LegendaryDude Nice!

Everybody is dude, and you can use dude in a multitude of ways.

Maaaaaaaaate. Tubular.

Hahaha
Not an uncommon conversation to hear:

A: Dude!
B: Dude.
A: Dude?
B: Duuuuuuude.

Here that flow would be interrupted with a "mate, how are ya!"
(Australians use "how are ya" as a rhetorical greeting. You're not supposed to answer it unless it looks like they're genuinely waiting and expecting an answer. I have trouble figuring out which is which sometimes.)
Could someone knowledgeable about Pathfinder review this question and see if it's too broad/unspecific or actually answerable? It needs to do away with the "tips and tricks" request ASAP, because that invites exactly what it's asking for (which is not good for our format).

6:56 PM
I flagged duplicate of this question.

Not even sure what he's asking.
This is one of those "pick a reason, any reason" VtCs

7:16 PM
I don't see how it's a duplicate, myself.
The linked question is clear in its intent: "How do I cast more buffs?"
This new question is, "how can I be better at buffing myself?"
Well, casting more buffs is one way to do that
But there may be other ways

2 hours later…
9:01 PM
so, I've got a level 14 warlock to make for a game in about a month

@DForck42 which edition?

@Zachiel 5e

Just as I supposed. I have no experience there.

@Zachiel :-D

@DForck42 Wait.. Are you saying it is possible to take more than 2-3 levels of warlock?

9:17 PM
@diego shrugs
my dm suggested undying light warlock, but i'ma play with things first

@DForck42 I was actually planning on taking a few levels of undying light warlock for my bard. The one issue I can see with it is it has the class feature that cares about radiant and fire damage and that doesn't work very well with Eldritch Blast which is traditionally your primary weapon

@diego I haven't read through any of the warlock stuff, so I dunno much about it
however, this character is intended for a one-shot and is meant to be a bit ridiculous

@DForck42 Ridiculous as in funny or over powered?

@diego yes
@diego so, apparently, my ACTUAL character is a peasant, and the character I'm creating is the character that peasant WISHED they could be

9:33 PM
@DForck42 Does your peasant wanted to be good at ranged or melee combat? And are you allowed to multiclass if you want to (and if you are would you want to)?

@diego I haven't been told explicitly that I CAN'T multiclass, so I'm going to assume yes
however, because shenanigans with what we're doing, I'd only take 1-2 levels away from the warlock
@diego ranged

@DForck42 For a ranged warlock the only multiclass I would consider would be Sorcerer 3, because then you can quicken Eldritch Blast

@diego ok, i'll keep that in mind

Oh, you should also probably know that everything I'm saying comes from reading things on the Interwebs, I don't have any actual play experiance with warlocks in 5e. So take me with a grain of salt.

@diego roger

9:43 PM
If you want a ridiculous number of cantrips you could go Tiefling Undying Light, Pact of the Tome Warlock/Sorcerer and have access to 14 different ones at level 14

@diego lol

10:10 PM

Ok now my only regret is not caring about capitalization. Fixing it if I'm still in time.

Q: Am I making too trivial edits to closed recent questions?

KumosAgostaI recently made edits to this question. It was a rather new question at the time of editing, but it was already put on hold. Would the edits made be considered too trivial? I got to thinking about it after I made the edit, and it didn't really feel like that great of an edit besides correcting t...

11:43 PM
@doppelgreener So far away, I can't care about things that long...
