@Narusan Hi!

6 hours later…
19:34
@UristMcDorf i THINK, i HEARD YOU SAY "bLUH",
I need to head out, but I think you might be the right people to ask what people might smuggle to and from a Wild West mining boomtown / Firefly-verse industrial mining giant planet
And given the lull today, I might come back and still see this post :)
I told the Quicksilver's crew there was an obviously dodgy Firefly on the planet they landed on, and I'm quite sure it brought something there and is taking something back, but I don't know what.
I missed the chance to have a PC … spout lore (create an Asset) about it, but I am very interested to know for my prep for the next session.
20:42
@Anaphory And I do!

1 hour later…
22:11
@Anaphory huzzah!
I suppose you want something cleverer than "unobtainum"?
Or "spice"?
Is spice mined?
After a fashion. In-universe, they certainly refer to it as spice-mining.
@Anaphory Medicine? Or is that too close to the originals?
@Anaphory It's a Dune reference.
22:13
@Anaphory Mining engineers?
@BESW I got it as such, I just don't know what it actually is or does there.
@Anaphory It's a psychoactive substance that grants limited prescience (when used in that manner).
When abused, it causes scenery-chewing.
Which is used by FTL pilots to plot and adjust routes in real-time and avoid running through a quasar or the like.
Stop the flow of spice, nobody travels inter-system!
@Anaphory Weapons. Mining-grade explosives. People. Drugs. Inner-system luxuries. Candy. Black-market payments (hard cash).
22:15
For a more Firefly-like theme, try smuggling something ordinary and practical.
I like the "mining engineers" suggestion.
Smuggling experts to a place that needs them, but which legally can't get them, sounds like a very Firefly sort of thing.
If it's a cold moon: warm clothing.
@BESW Yeah. There's a whole smuggling category that's very Firefly-esque that's basically “these people are being cheated out of basic necessities or sensible resources, so they have to smuggle them.”
Good suggestions there.
For miners, high-quality breathing filters.
22:17
@BESW That's a good one.
(The company only gives them the cheap stuff.)
@BESW "Come and see the violence inherent in the system!"

These are the kinds of things that make Mal flip out over a shootout and bust open the sealed shipment, all “let's see what's so worth killing over”, only to see that it's, like, food or oxygen scrubbers the wealthy owners are denying the people.
On reflection, smuggling experts might hit the nail on the head a little much for comfort re: contemporary events. So unless you want that to be a thing in your game...
Then he gets Sad Mal face and the crew goes cowboy above and beyond the call of smuggler duty.
@BESW (Ouch.)
22:23
There's a fine line to walk between "This game isn't just mindless entertainment" and "This game isn't uplifting and rejuvenating anymore," and it changes for every group.
22:53
@BESW amen to this ^^
@Anaphory Safety inspectors. Safety inspection reports.
@nitsua60 Oh, that's actuall what got them there in the first place :)
I mean, that they have to get Federal Inspector Miyazaki and her report safely out of there is the thing. It's just, what's the complication? What do the other smugglers do here?
...they smuggle in competent un-bribeable inspectors to tell them if it's really safe?
@Anaphory Ah. Then it's a company town/planet, and only company goods are licitly traded on-planet. And now there's a black market in [anything you'd like].
@BESW Actually, the crew smuggled a heart-of-gold for-the-people inspector to an unsafe rival's company mine and told her the travel would be really safe ;)
23:50
Does what this question is asking make sense? Am I just failing to navigate the English errors, or is it really not clear what they're asking?

Q: Relationships as an Extras

JoelI am going to master a teen-investigation game in a setting strongly inspired by Scooby-Doo. The locations are the teens' town, so the relationships will be an important feature of the play. The standard way to manage the relationship as an simple aspect it would not fit. I was thinking to defin...

I tried to do a copyedit pass and failed to figure out what the last two paragraphs should be rewritten to say.
