Expanded SRD update — nearly ready to pull the trigger but I’m moving out of state, so delays continue. Soon. https://t.co/vloEWqm7GD

Hello, sorry for being so direct but i would like to know if there is a good fantasy rpg with hit locations and no Armor Class, i have already read all of the BRP variants out there except magic world i also play WHFR2e

By "hit locations" do you mean called shots?

@xChapx do you mean like in the Fallout games?

like hitting someone in the left arm or right leg or the head or wtv?

@xChapx By hit locations I imagine you mean like RQ and (some) BRPs do it, where wounds are suffered to a location, right?

1:09 AM
yes, hitting the head, legs etc

and being able to like, cripple them and such right?
as in, knocking out the use of that area of the body till they heal (unless they die of course)

There are a bunch of such RPGs. My favourite is the Burning Wheel. Another is Reign. Blade of the Iron Throne is has a very intricate combat and injury system without being overly complicated or slow to play or understand. Then there's the game-agnostic supplement Trauma, which can be used to replace a given game's injury system with a wound/location system that's based a bit more in anatomical reality.

yeah @BESW I readed that liek one hour ago, harnmaster caught my attention but i am not a fan of dice pools

1:12 AM
And, of course, Fate can model that or not depending on the desire of the group.

Maybe i am beign too picky with what i am looking, i dont like dice pools and high crunch games, WHF2e was very close to my likings but it was a bit too gritty for my players
@SevenSidedDie How is the dice resolution in Burning Wheel and BofIT?

@xChapx Both small dice pools. (If you've played other games and got a bad taste for dice pools, they're probably different enough that the distaste won't transfer.)

What is it about dice pools that you dislike?

@xChapx If WHF2e isn't too crunchy, then most games made after 1989 won't be too crunchy.

Mostly i think it slows down the process, other reason is that we dont have a lot of dices

1:19 AM
hey there @nitsua60

@xChapx Not Blade of the Iron Throne then. It's a very cool game, but it requires at least a dozen d10s. (I had to buy specifically for it.) Burning Wheel's typical pool is 5d6, so that might be ok. It's also very much not a slow game.

I was looking for a setting agnostic, rules only WHF2e and i found something like it grimandperilous.com
What edition of BW do you recommend me to read for fantasy?

@xChapx Burning Wheel is solidly fantasy; it has three editions that are all mostly the same, so there's no major reasons to look for anything other than the latest: Burning Wheel Gold. (You can check out the first 70 pages in PDF.) There are other “Burning” games that aren't setting-agnostic fantasy, but they're not named Burning Wheel.

600 pages
thats quite a lot

But what I really came here to say: @Momonga-sama, @eimyr, and other speakers/learners of Polish and its linguistic siblings, this is a thing: Slavic Languages SE proposal at Area 51.

1:33 AM
cool

@xChapx It's closer to 250 or 300 in terms of content, but it's 600 because it's a 6"✕9" so the pages are smaller.

I'm only familiar with Burning Wheel through its Mouseguard version.

@BESW They're definitely relatives, but they're like English and German. :)

1:46 AM
For the Burning Wheel–curious, there are three reviews in RPGnet's review database.

So i decided that i am going to blindly play something and force my player to, right now Burning Wheel is my first option, what other fantasy games do you recommend? mostly i want d100 systems but anything goes, just a game that you will say that will make me have fun

@xChapx As d100 games go, you've found the big ones: the BRP/RQ family of games and Warhammer FRP. The only other ones I'm familiar with are a sci-fi one (Blue Planet) and I vaguely recall a few post-apocalypse ones. RPGGeek can search on d100 though: games that use primarily percentile dice. Go to the bottom and change the sorting from Name to Rank to sort them by most popular first.
@xChapx Burning Wheel is great fun, but it does require the players to be on-board for it to work. Uninvested players make the game engine go “thunk” and stay there. I'd try to coax/sell it a bit first, and try something else if there are no bites. :)

Fantasy games I've actually played (not just read) and enjoyed: , , , , , . None are d100, but most are good for quick-start one-shot games to test them out (some aren't good for long-form campaigns at all) and generally don't require unusual amounts or types of dice.

@xChapx “What will make you have fun” is a pretty difficult thing to recommend. Every game made is fun to someone, yet not every game is fun to everyone.
For a game that is guaranteed fun though, Roll for Shoes can't be beat.

You'll notice that most of the games I mention aren't "fantasy" in the D&D style; it's not a very useful qualifier for knowing whether or not you'll like something we recommend.
You might prefer or , depending on what qualities of "fantasy" are attractive to you, despite both those games being solidly sci-fi.

2:05 AM
Fantasy Adventure , also thanks everybody for taking your time with your responses i greatly appreciate it

2:27 AM
@xChapx No trouble. There are a lot of games out there, and discovering new ones is half the fun.

So I am back on writing my Anarty system, (https://docs.google.com/document/d/192fmQBrO89s6FyZZwvyAZem6b2OrELHYb9J3DYlmspM/edit?usp=sharing)
And I am thinking more now about Art (ie Magic/Mad Science), rather than combat. Cos Anart is what is all about
So I have several Exceptions (Like nWoD: Mage Arcana, or Ars Magica Forms, or really loosely DnD schools of magic)

what does do-potf stands for?

Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple.
There's also a Fate version of the setting, but I haven't played it yet.

@Momonga-sama ahh.... that makes a lot more sense. Sorry.
@Shalvenay hey there

@nitsua60 what's up?

Just got back from last student session of the year.

is it summer break over there? (it is here now apparently, which I only know because I asked my dad yesterday why he was not at his school XD )

@nitsua60 ah :)

@trogdor will be soon--this is the last Friday evening that works in our schedule.

3:39 AM
cool

@SevenSidedDie make the tag and whipped up a brief description. Have applied a few, but don't want to swamp meta so I'll parcel the tagging over a few days.

@nitsua60 👍!

The Predictor is rather interesting.

4:01 AM
@BESW That is indeed interesting! Where did you find it?

@Miniman From @SevenSidedDie's link to a list of unlinked pages.

I apparently prefer questions in some of my hidden tags, and eschew questions in some of my favorite tags.

I like that our captcha is apparently checking whether we're mindless undead, rather than bots.

woo-hoo... just passed halfway to copy editor =)

4:10 AM
Grats!

I just noticed--ever since my profile page started showing me badges that'll take years, not weeks, to earn... let's just say I don't expect any new badges in 2016 =\

almost every badge I have has been entirely accidentally earned

@nitsua60 There's always Nice Answer and Enlightened.

that being said, I don't have a large number of them or anything

@Miniman sorry, I meant "new to me", not another instance of an already-earned badge. I.e. the ones highlighted with the progress bar atop a profile page.
Also, I need people to ask questions while you're sleeping to get any of those ^^ =)

4:14 AM
lol

night, all

night

@BESW I have a suggestion for experimental purposes regarding your Cliffhangers with skills question: still use approaches, and map what people describe they're doing back to the approaches you defined.

@doppelgreener That had occurred to me, and I think it'd work, but it's also adding another layer of mechanical abstraction.
I'm willing to try it in a game, though!

....my sinuses have reached that particular point where they add a high-pitched squeaky noise to my sneezes.

oh jeez

Ryan Macklin describes the budget for Katanas & Trenchcoats. AKA "Shipping is an emotional hellscape wrapped in a nightmare that’s made worse by demons that thrive on international shipping turmoil."

6:34 AM
@BESW that sounds pretty bad

@trogdor Well, it means they're draining. So that's nice.

well that is usually a pretty good thing

@AlexP They already broke all their links at least once, no-one's gonna be surprised if it happens again. — Miniman Sep 18 '14 at 4:31

11:45 AM
@BESW But game recommendation is banned.

12:31 PM
@trogdor That's why we keep bringing it up, but not as often as to overdo it. ;)

1:02 PM

@BESW Isn't it what I've said? :/

Not really. You expressed confusion about my having a history of activity in a banned category of question.

I wasn't confused :p It was just a little joke.

2:01 PM
@Zachiel makes sense to me

Q: Void-Influenced Sorcerer

GamingCrusadeNOTE: This thread/question is going to involve questions about game mechanics, lore, and interactions with other DM's gameworlds. Answering any question helps, and all responses are appreciated. Good day to everyone out there. Dungeon master here, and I've had a character "sub-class" idea of the...

10:51 PM
@Shalvenay hiya--how're the midlands?

@nitsua60 wet but OK

anything interesting going on this weekend? You get a long one?

@nitsua60 yep

11:04 PM
Hey, old-school folks, what are some of the best pre-3.0 boss fights in D&D modules?

lol
I totally have no clue XD

lich at the end of tomb of horrors?
(j/k)
I have strong but indistinct memories of really liking some of the big confrontations in the dragonlance modules....
[heheh... he said 'strongbut']

Googling indicates Dragonlance's "Dragons of Despair" might be a good source.
Basically I'm looking for--have you seen the "Something Positive" strips where they do one-night RPGs? They skip all the boring exposition and fighting through mooks, to instead open the session with the final boss confrontation.

no, haven't seen it =\

Well, that's the concept I'm after. Looking for modules where I can open with a two-sentence summary of the events up to the exciting boss fight, and then we can get right to the good stuff.

11:20 PM
I might almost farm action movies for it?
Is the idea that the lead-up is never played, or is played retrospectively?
(or some other clever thing?)

Never played.

so, yeah--I'd be tempted to re-skin some of my favorite action movies to fit the setting

Also, I'm specifying early D&D because part of my idea is using this conceit to sample historically popular modules that we'd never actually play through.

ahh... sorry--mis-assumed the impetus

11:44 PM
w00t!

@Longspeak Hi!
