00:00 - 07:0007:00 - 00:00

00:01
This is probably the best part.
Or maybe they actually are NPCs, but I remember that town was ruled by a gang that punished everyone who wasn't funny.
@BESW You coming up with those surface thoughts? That would've been fun to watch XD
@BESW I too have a deep and abiding love for Steven Universe.
@doppelgreener For most of my recent campaigns? "AAAAAAAWHATISTHATAAAAAAA," more than half the time.
@BESW But is that you as the GM or is that you as the player messing with the GM's NPCs?
...yes?
00:15
@doppelgreener Steven Universe is a great... universe. (Greg Universe is a pretty good one too.)
@Pixie They are.
I need to check and see if I'm actually caught up on the show.
Is it weird that seeing really good first posts makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside?
No, it's awesome.
00:30
That blog links... a 3 hour extension of Stronger Than You... [faints]
@BESW i'd be interested in seeing that. he seems he might have a scar amid his hairline.
@Pixie that is a beautiful song T_T
so is the one Garnet sings in the credits after that episode.
@doppelgreener Garnet is my favorite, too. That episode made me very happy.
@doppelgreener There's something about his expression which tells me he's got stories inside him.
@Pixie Me too. I had already heard about the twist from that episode (spoiler), but it was so beautiful to see it for realsy. (also spoiler)
it explains so much about spoiler
@doppelgreener Yeah, I had it spoiled for me beforehand too because I'd fallen behind. But knowing didn't minimize the impact at all.
I'm wondering how CN is letting so much slide regarding (spoiler, kind of), given their behavior as recent as Adventure Time, but I think Steven Universe just has the right team.
Prominent members are just as invested in it as the audience, I think.
00:44
@Pixie i've only seen up to adventure time season... 6 i think (with the flame princess and everything), so if you're referencing something after that as well i won't know about it (but there's totally lots of implied stuff before then too)
@doppelgreener Yeah, it's well before then. It's kind of a complex situation because it involves stuff outside of the show as well. Have you seen "What Was Missing"?
@Miniman -- do the potions of resist goon do anything for/to the capital-G Goons? :P
It's related to that, but further discussion should probably waltz over to the NAB due to complexity and I guess spoilerishness, although AT's plot is not like SU's. xD
@Shalvenay No, but they do help mitigate the effects of drinking goon.
@Pixie Yes. And I know it's totally implying spoiler
TO THE NOT A BAR!
00:53
@Miniman :P
o/ @waxeagle
@Shalvenay heya, I'll have us up in a min, gotta switch boxes
@Shalvenay @RobertF @JoshuaAslanSmith @Grubermensch plus.google.com/hangouts/_/g6bdtzkmxq6mfpbfeuims6xfwya
@Shalvenay still having trouble getting in?
01:09
@waxeagle -- yep
just "Couldn't start the video call because of an error."
@Shalvenay hmmm weird
tried normal stuff like close/reopen browser, clear temp files etc?
temp files shouldn't matter -- it's in an incognito tab
ah...is that the problem?
well, it kind of has to be an incognito tab :p
and this is the first time I've ever seen it fail.
gotcha, not sure then :(
can you try a reboot?
01:13
ugh, no
tried starting a brand new chromium process, and it still failed
@Shalvenay plugin might be borked :(
(Contains some awesome sketches and source material, too.)
@waxeagle -- it's not a plugin
01:35
Question asking for ways to make campaign more challenging includes this memorable quote:
> I have incorporated Hero Points, Honor Points, Unchained, and Mythic Tiers into the module
i'm not editing that question
Me neither, I took a look and decided it wasn't worth the effort.
01:47
Hmm
A Pathfinder question
Well aside from bad formatting it isnt a bad question
Answers are mostly going to say "Here's all the things you were doing wrong that was making life easier for your players. Fix these before you try to increase the difficulty."
Challenging this question isnt too horrible an idea
02:01
@doppelgreener You edited it, you lying liar you.
i did
i read it again and suddenly it was clicking how it could be arranged better
@Miniman mind checking if i might have deleted any of that?
02:25
6yo: CAN YOU HELP ME WRITE THIS STORY? me: I JUST LOST ALL MY WORK AND GAH. him: IT'S ABOUT IF I WAS A FISH MAN WHO STABBED PIRATES. me: Ok.
I want Evil Hat to develop the RPG.
I'd probably play it.
Fishman vs the Pirates, the RPG
It also needs a space supplement.
And Nickelodeon TV show.
02:28
Space Fishman vs the Space Pirates in Space, the RPG supplement
I would definitely play that.
Ahh. I love chiptunes. I'm going to put a bunch on and browse pixels and feel inspired. I want to live in 1041uuu's art.
...sometimes question titles just need to stay contextless.
"Are demons immune to reality changes made by angelic covers?" is really a lot better when I can pretend it's about whether demonic forces are susceptible to the reality-altering power of gospel.
@Pixie but you would be so low resolution!
@doppelgreener Hey, that just means I'm accessible!
@BESW It made me think of blankets.
It made me think of cover-ups.
02:38
Angels throwing reality-warping blankets over things they want mortals to perceive differently. Including themselves.
more like aliens throwing reality-warping blankets over things they'd rather nobody knew about.
@BESW clearly a conference of angels
@doppelgreener The entire Area 51 complex is really just a giant blanket.
[blink] Waaaaait a minute.
Farmland is a cover-up!
It's all just a giant quilt hiding... something!
and then BESW was never seen again
HE'S GONE
THEY GOT TO HIM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
tomorrow i expect to not see Guam on the map any longer
02:45
[whispers] We're next.
and if i ask people about it they'll just ask "what's Guam?"
@Pixie oh no T_T
Maybe the aliens are really chill. Maybe they're just throwing him a party for being so clever.
@doppelgreener Looks fine to me
@Pixie a kidnapping party
@doppelgreener It's so good he just can't miss it.
02:48
@Pixie or ever leave it
Ever...
There was pie.
There's always pie. That's how they get you.
hmmmmmmm
[eyes messages suspiciously]
02:51
@BESW I want this image but bigger for my desktop background. Do you know where it can be found?
@Grubermensch Here.
@doppelgreener Don't worry, citizen. I am still a normal human like you.
I have merely been fed pie.
Grrr largest size is still only 1024x684
You can't spell compliance without pie!
@BESW but... [squints at word]
@BESW Sure I can. It's spelled [--REDACTED--].
02:58

04:16
I just noticed my score is currently sitting at 666
this amuses me, and I imagine this is the only group that might share in that amusement
@KRyan Don't mind me, I'm just going to go build an optimized devil banisher. No particular reason.
Heh heh
How do you view your tag scores?
Damn, I forgot that turning devils doesn't actually banish them. Which means that the Banishment spell is probably as good as it gets.
Greater Planar Ally :D
04:22
Turn those optimized devils against everything else
Interesting, I was talking about an optimized [devil banisher] rather than an [optimized devil] banisher.
But you make a good point.
malconvoker is one of my favorite bits of RPG out there
It's a pretty awesome class. One of the few ones that really lines up fluff and crunch well.
I like Psions
They're fun
I like that powers with an auditory tell literally drop the bass
@Miniman aye
psions are cool
04:25
@Sandwich I hate to admit it, but I've never actually played in a game with psionics.
I like psionics as a concept a lot more than I like any of the psionic classes, though
the ardent does make me happy in a lot of ways, though; it alone almost saves Complete Psionics
@Miniman if you play 3.5, they're all on the SRD; highly recommended
I like Psion Gishes the most
With the Slayer Psions can pull off a VERY effective gish
they're much better designed (in 3.5; the 3.0 ones are awful and I've heard even worse things about those in prior editions) than standard spellcasting, anyway
3.0 psionics were stupid
Psychokineticists had CON as a primary casting modifier
What an awful idea that was
the psionic combat modes were worse than the MAD, IMO
but both were pretty atrocious
04:27
So they had access to Psicrystals, the highest HP in the game, and the Vigor power
3.0 psionics could have been a good system, if it weren't stapled to D&D 3.0
within that context, it just did not fit at all
@KRyan It's not really a choice that I've made. I'm not up to GMing 3.5, and I'd vastly prefer to play anyway. And it's become increasingly difficult to find 3.5 GMs/games.
and the system offered it very little in the way of support
Pushing their HP into the 15's at level 1
5hp per power point per level per hour
@Miniman you can try #giantitp on irc.gamesurge.net; people don't run games as often as one might like, but 3.5 (or 3.5 + select backported Pathfinder material) is still the most popular system
for that matter, if you can stomach play-by-post, last I checked the Giant in the Playground forums themselves are similar in that regard
04:29
@KRyan Yeah, I've been meaning to look for an online game. Not something I've tried before, and not my ideal situation though.
If you want PBP rpol.net is probably the best site
@Miniman it's very decidedly non-ideal, agreed
giantitp is good too, but I don't think it fulfills the function better than RPOL
getting a RL game together can be really hard though
@Sandwich dunno about 'better', I was just referring to the popularity of 3.5 on the forum
I know little about RPOL
hi @Pixie
@KRyan Hello!
04:30
It supports the uploading of maps, has a dice roller, supports stickies, multiple topics, etc
@Pixie is that a vulpix?
Looks like it @KRyan
@Sandwich yeah, GitP definitely doesn't have most of that (they have a die roller)
@KRyan It is a Vulpix. It was not intended to be permanent, but I have yet to come up with a replacement.
@Pixie vulpixes (vulpices?) are cool
04:31
I should change my icon to a better looking sandwich
your sandwich is, indeed, very odd looking
Pretty sure the plural of Vulpix is Vulpix though
then again, my avatar is a barely-legible pair of letters that aren't even my initials on this site
DW
As in
@Sandwich Yep. The plural of every Pokemon is the same as its singular.
04:32
THE PIRATES OF DARK WATER
oooh, nice
not one of the usual reference-guesses I get
@KRyan Yeah, but if you change it it'll confuse me every time I go trawling through old 3.5 questions.
far better than Darkwing Duck or Arnold's little sister
Whats cooler than water that EATS things though
That'd make for a pretty fucked up situation
Water that eats things is called acid.
04:33
At any rate, Vulpix are my favorite Pokemon, other than perhaps Gengar and Clefairy.
Hush no it isnt
Acid is a different thing entirely
@KRyan Wow, now that's a reference I never would have expected to see.
@KRyan Heh. Those are the only things I would've thought of.
anyway, DW stands for DragoonWraith, my username on just about every other site out there; the only reason it's not here is because this account is connected to the Careers 2.0 thing which is my primary method of finding new employment as needed
A Liquid that eats things can be a very powerful caustic base or an Acid
But neither are water
That'd be an amazing thing to put on a resume
"I have 101 thousand karma on RPG Stack Exchange sir."
04:35
@Miniman I hear "Let's get dangerous!" all the time
Ah, yes. DragoonWraith is not exactly something you want your prospective employer to associate with you (unless they are really, really cool).
but Pirates of the Dark Water is super obscure; I didn't even realize anyone else had even seen that show
@KRyan [blinks] I'm guessing that's the first reference? I didn't get that one, I got the second one.
@Miniman oh, yeah, that's Darkwing Duck
04:36
@KRyan immortalising it while i have the chance
@doppelgreener awesome didn't know you could do that
@KRyan Unless Dark Water = Black Lagoon...
It doesnt Mini, It doesnt.
The Pirates of Dark Water is a fantasy animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera and created by David Kirschner and first aired in 1991. == Premise == The alien world of Mer is being devoured by an evil substance known as Dark Water. Only Ren, a young prince, can stop it by finding the lost Thirteen Treasures of Rule. His loyal crew of misfits that help in his journey are an ecomancer (Tula), a monkey-bird (Niddler), and a treasure-hungry pirate (Ioz). The evil pirate lord, Bloth, will stop at nothing to get the treasures for himself and provides many obstacles for Ren and his crew. == Network... ==
first aired in 1991? hah, I was actually seeing that show when it was new
A show about evil water is great though
04:37
as for Hey Arnold, I think people make that connection rather often, but she didn't have a catchphrase so far as I know
What a great idea
(I didn't watch either Darkwing Duck or Hey Arnold)
@KRyan You mean Arthur?
...yes
I do
04:38
Easy to confuse, especially if you haven't seen them.
Hey Arnold is a show, just not the same show.
Hey Arnold I actually saw a few episodes of, rather than Arthur which I... was aware of
but that's about it
I watched Arthur a lot in... 2nd grade I think? Hey Arnold was a favorite later on. Still pretty good.
heh, my username initials are apparently something of a test, at least for people of a certain age, of which kids' channel you watched in the 90s: Disney, Nick, or Cartoon Network
The art was weird
The main character literally had a football head
04:39
@KRyan Just wiki-ed it to answer the question I never knew the answer too...turns out Arthur is meant to be an aardvark!
It was still more entertaining than Doug though
(mind = blown)
@Miniman I actually learned that from a Cracked.com article
apparently the first story was about Arthur deciding whether or not to get a nosejob because of his big aardvark nose
Creepy
He looked much more like one in the earlier book art. At some point, that changed for some reason.
04:41
art evolution has extremely unfortunate implications here
since he lost that nose over time anyway
just from the art changes
yeah, that
undermined most of the message from the initial book
There we go
@Pixie Wow, that's some change alright
That's the most extreme art evolution I've ever seen.
04:43
I'm beautiful now
Damn
Why is my Sandwich not pretty
takes a while to update
caching and such
@Sandwich I dunno, it looks weird. Unrealistic.
My new sandwich is better
Ben
Ben
@Sandwich still making me hungry
I wouldn't ever eat a sandwich in a game I'm DMing Ben
Ben
Ben
04:46
@Sandwich making me hungrier
It will lead to some bad times
I think I've told Doppelgreener the story
Ben
Ben
@Sandwich don't deny me food... you won't like me when I'm hungry
Doppel do you remember the story
Anyway
THE SANDWICH is a cursed item enchanted with the properties of Suggestion, Nystul's Undetectable Aura, and a Lodestone
Any attempt to rid yourself of THE SANDWICH will cause THE SANDWICH to reappear on your person
Eating THE SANDWICH will also make you hungrier, and another version of THE SANDWICH will appear in one of your bags
If you find THE SANDWICH on your person you have to make a Will save if hungry to resist consuming THE SANDWICH
04:53
@KRyan Incidentally, as long as you're in chat for a change: Thanks for being an incredible resource both for specific details and for skills and techniques.
@KRyan what was the original book's message?
@doppelgreener Aardvarks don't need nosejobs?
@Doppelgreener I believe it was "You are what you eat"
@doppelgreener IIRC, self-acceptance/self-esteem/be-happy-with-who-you-are
@KRyan oh right. and they turned him into a relatively ordinary sort of animal?
05:00
@doppelgreener well, they turned him into an oval, so far as I can tell >.>

@Miniman thank you; glad my ridiculous retention of 3.5 minutiae is helpful to folks
(sometimes I scare myself; there are a few books that I have what page things are described on memorized)
I have similar knowledge of 3.5
anyway, way past bedtime for me
night folks
@KRyan Cya!
See ya later Ryan
05:05
It's not as good as the four fours that were rolled last night
A crossroads at midnight; A guantlet or glove; A gossiping fishwife; Making merry
(what is a fishwife?!)
> 1. a coarse-mannered woman who is prone to shouting.
"the screech of a fishwife"
2. (archaic) a woman who sells fish.
That's a tough one, looking forward to it :)
Hmmmmm
The guantlet is emblematic of a knight. We're at a crossroads, so this is a wandering knight.
The fishwife (both shouty and literally selling fish) is the entry-point for the adventure--she tells the PCs about the appearance of this mysterious knight and his special glove.
05:10
@Grubermensch and he's making merry (nudge nudge, wink wink) with a fishwife
It's also midnight at the crossroads, so it's all very otherworldly.
The merriment is a festival, held at midnight definitely. A fey festival, perhaps.
The knight is courting a fey princess? The glove is the result of a quest.
A quest the party was themselves recruited to complete some months ago, by a mysterious gentleman in the corner of an inn.
[sits back, takes out notepad] How does that make you feel?
So... The fishwife points the party to a crossroads where at midnight there's a fey festival, including a tourney where anyone can challenge the Green Knight (of course he's green). Throwing and/or stealing gloves may be involved.
Ok, lets do this. Prince of Shadows.

05:19
A palace; A ring with a concealed compartment; A desperate man; Targeted for assassination;
Well, that's almost too easy.
subvert it
Dang thats a good one
A lord is being blackmailed by one of his subjects so he plans to assassinate the person in question by using a ring with a secret poison compartment inside his palace
A year ago, a duke's son went mad and destroyed his own palace with magic gone awry, killing thousands. He's the most hated man in the Empire, still hunted by the relatives of his victims. So when the party comes across him, it seems like they made the bank. Except he has a story to tell, and a ring to show them. A ring, hidden within which is the entire palace, still intact. Will the party help him get it out by going inside the shrunken palace?
Or will they hand him over to the entirely trustworthy not-at-all drow-looking villagers out for revenge?
Ohhhhh yessssss
Can't follow that one up (especially since I was also thinking of putting the palace inside the ring)
@Sandwich it's your turn. Pick a type and roll for it.
Pick a Type?
05:34
Clicketh linky
And scroll down a bunch
Uhh
The archmage

An Enchanted Lake, A spellbook from a previous age, A summoned Elemental Spirit, In Lost Scrolls and records
26 years after the Dark Mage Yvantar Goldburrow died, a group of adventurers find an enchanted library beneath the surface of a magical lake of his creation. After fighting a colossal water elemental, the party Wizard finds the Dark Mages Spellbook and falls into its power, compelled to finish his work. The party is then tasked with going through the Dark Wizards scrolls to find the spell that will break the enchantment on their Wizard.
But during their search they're ambushed by evil wizard ninjas and forced to battle them.. to the death!
@Sandwich has become a much more deluxe looking sandwich
@doppelgreener An HD sandwich.
05:44
@Pixie it is!
06:12
Hmm. High Druid.
4d6
Riding on a storm cloud; A bronze sickle; A barbarian champion; In summer light.
@BESW Sounds like Monkey crossed with Conan :P
Sounds like some sort of fertility ritual.
@BESW I'd think that would be spring.
06:22
Each vernal equinox, in the dying light of the summer sun, a wood of druids offers sacrifices of grain and flesh harvested with a blessed bronze sickle. But this summer, a mystical storm interrupted their ritual. In the chaos of the sudden storm a barbarian, riding the winds, stole their sickle and killed their leader.
The PCs may decide to hunt down the barbarian and return the sickle, or to steal it for their own ends, or to protect the barbarian from the druids' wrath...
@BESW Wind-riding barbarian thief? Is that some third-party prestige class?
And they have to do it before the summer runs out, naturally.
@Magician Naturally.
@Miniman Nah, he's just got some really weird Backgrounds.
Again! Elf Queen.
4d6
A circle of standing stones; A stag hunt; A changeling child; Under a spell.
06:37
Writes itself, this one.
Hunters chase a stag, it runs into a circle of standing stones, where it turns into a child. Who is obviously under a spell.
Pretty much. I wonder if BESW will subvert this one, //nudge nudge//
Recently the son of a local Lord became lost while hunting a white stag of local renown, and was forced to seek shelter in a circle of standing stones under the harvest moon. Ever since he has become increasingly distracted by bells no-one else can hear. Each night he dreams of dancing with fairies in ruinous castles, and by day white animals obey his commands.
> I believe it would be more appropriate to comment than to post an answer, but my rep does not allow me to comment.
Said no useful answer ever. Scratch that, I think I've seen a good answer with a similar comment once.
...I recently finished reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, if you can't tell.
06:40
The Three looks more varied than the rest, let's see what it can come up with
4d6
An alchemist’s laboratory; A cryptic letter; Something in human form; Conspiring with unlikely allies
(and I was hoping for a thing in a vat, in a coffee-house...)
@Magician Satisfactory subversion?
@BESW Not the obvious route, Adeptus and me would have gone, so yes :)
06:56
@Adeptus While tracking a serial killer, the party is led to an alchemist's laboratory where a cryptic letter reveals their quarry is a monster created by collaboration between a necromancer of the Lich King and one of the Archmage's wizards.
Prince of Shadows.
4d6
@BESW The serial killer is, of course, the Frankenstein's monster, and the party could ally with it in the end.
A thief’s hideout; A knife in the back; One in possession of a fortune; Living large.
Well. That one's as straightforward as they come. Looking forward to your interpretation.
Well, the Prince of Shadows is all about misdirection, sleight of hand, and larger than life ambitions....
