Folks playing Level Up!, save and refresh for more quests.
@DampeS8N Any chance of a save/load method that isn't cookie-based? I have my browser to delete all cookies every time it's closed.
00:30
@DampeS8N It's... Progress Quest?
huh, no, not quite!
@ObliviousSage What would you prefer?
@AlexP More like Cookie Clicker or Candy Box. :)
[searches for A Dark Room]
@DampeS8N I'm not picky. Even just the option to save to & load from a .txt file would be fine, though admittedly that really raises the temptation to do a little save-state hacking. Or something like old video games, before you could save on the cartridge, where it would give you a code to enter to load your progress? I'm not sure how long a string you would need; presumably you would need to look into how to best compress the necessary information.
01:08
It is pretty amusing!
@JonathanHobbs Already on it.
@BESW Thank you :)

Greetings
Ahoy.
It's rather curious. They're going to have massive plot-lines, which will be reflected in everything from adventure paths to fiction to minis to the MMO. It's the "content" to the system's framework.
Before, the system was the real selling point, with adventures and settings off to the wayside (at least that's my perception of it).
Aye, well. I've seen several debates on this site over whether is a setting tag.
Hah. Greyhawk-lite, was it?
Aye, but even below that the core rulebooks imply a pretty strong setting.
05:23
It's an interesting approach they've chosen. Compared to, say, Fate's "eh, do whatever you find interesting".
I suspect some glances at Pathfinder.
@BESW They do. And that implied setting bleeds into settings people make up, as things like pantheon or cosmology get imported wholesale.
Heh. My 3.5 settings generally ignored most anything non-Prime.
Non-Prime planes were, at best, "where the monsters came from."
That's how it happens, though: outer planes are rarely the focal point of a campaign, which means they're left to default settings when interactions do occur. Hence, the Great Wheel.
Interesting way of looking at it.

And then (mechanically speaking) Spirit Call was both Breath of Life's mother AND Breath of Life's father.
I'm getting silly with these NPCs.

I just want you to consider what a material focus of "two platinum rings, worn by caster and target" means to a cleric who's adventuring with a lone PC and accompanied by her parents.
Awkward.
Interestingly, I made her domain selections before I learned that both domains grant that particular spell, so she will have that specific spell to cast each day, with no choice in the matter except to let the spell slot go to waste.
Well, it is a rather intimate spell.
08:26
Perhaps a finely made platinum ring, masterwork, with large clear engraving by a master jewelsmith reading THIS IS NOT A WEDDING RING!.

Q: How to manage a PC with a physical handicap hindering his roleplay?

SaffronI am looking for experience, techniques and feedback from GMs / players who have played/mastered a character who has a big handicap, like being completely blind, or mute. Some of my players asked me to play that kind of character, and even though I think it can be a very interesting experience, ...

[headtilt]
Voting to close as too broad. Will compose a comment later if no one else does.
I agree. It's an interesting issue, but as a question it's just too big.
I'm looking over the Most Upvoted Questions list on RPG.se, and am glad to note that they're mostly system-agnostic questions, which means the D&D bias isn't overwhelming on the site. Though occasionally you have odd system-specific questions cropping up, like "How to steal a Star Destroyer".
This is a really interesting issue to discuss, but as a Stack Exchange question it's far too broad for useful answers. The possible system and playstyle variants that would have to be accounted for could turn a good answer into a small book! If you have a specific challenge you're facing on this topic, please tell us about it (system, group playstyle, etc) and we'll try to give useful answers. If you just want to talk about the concept abstractly, other RPG forums or the rpg.se chat would be a better place for that. — BESW 16 secs ago
So, I was looking for a picture to use on the "Pride" weakness card in Storium, and I found this:
09:59
That dog is adorable.
Absolutely.
I put a smug-looking Rupert Grint for "Crass."
@lisardggY Would you cast your close vote, too?
Done.
10:44
@BESW This suddenly reminded me of an old text file that was shared from BBS to BBS in the old days, a set of silly AD&D spells. It included a spell called "Change Elf", after the same typo.
It also included my favorite, "Drawmij's Instant Death":
> Wherever he is, whatever he's doing, Drawmij dies instantly. He's getting sick and tired of this spell and the ever-increasing costs of resurrection spells.
Whadayaknow. Apprently it's originally from Dragon magazine: discordianquotes.com/quote/…
11:37
@trogdor [wave]
hello
12:00
@lisardggY Hee.
Afternoon
Yawp.
Hello
@trogdor Do you remember The? We played M:tG over Skype with him a few times at your place back in the day.
yeah
12:03
So..... Who has something to keep me busy for the next 30 minutes or so?
I remember, why?
@trogdor He's starting Storium.
ah ok
@BESW How do you play MTG over skype?
12:04
@BESW I prefer something engagy.
@InbarRose With a great deal of "Wait, hold that card up again?"
@BESW Lol.
Why not workstation or apprentice?
[reveals self to be former MTG master]
[shrug] We didn't know those existed, and maybe they didn't. This was... six years ago, maybe longer.
Six years ago they existed.
@InbarRose Okay... find me suitable labelled-for-noncommercial-resue images for these cards:
12:06
I stopped playing when 8th edition came out.
(I'm old school)
Good mornin
Hey.
@InbarRose (Urban Fantasy pre-made.)
Bonus points for non-handsome-white-male subjects.
@InbarRose "bad request."
Hmmm
hmmm Why is getty images watermarking this?
Because Getty Images sells pictures and doesn't want you using them for free?
Good idea, though.
But I thought they were royalty free?
That means you don't have to pay each time you use it.
But they still want their one-time fee.
Royalty fees are a particular kind of payment method, not a generic term.
12:14
Haha, for obsessed I have a joke:
Cause he is obsessed? Get it? [Groan]
@BESW What do you think?
Sorry, had to run off and consult on what to do with my dad's medicine tonight.
@InbarRose He looks a little bit too phallic for my taste.
The bull graphic is great, though.
For obsessed, maybe a room full of crazy?
Now for Goals...
12:43
@JonathanHobbs funny how it's the opposite for me
What are all these flag things everyone is posting? And the broken links
the flags are subplots in Storium
@Aaron The Storium game engine uses cards to represent mechanics. The cards can have pictures associated with them, but don't by default.
The flag icon is the default "doesn't have a picture" image for Goal cards.
I see. Isn't Storium that early access game you guys have been play testing?
Aye.
If you're interested in looking around I can give you an invite to a dummy game; it'll let you make a free player-only account.
12:53
Nah. I am at work so.
@BESW How much rep do you need to vote to open?
@Aaron 3k, I think.
aww. I have 1k.
I have been trying to answer questions but all the ones I try to answer always get answered before I can get to them.
Aye, it can be rough.
@lisardggY Re-open?
12:59
Discovered I could vote to re-open. Used my unexpected capabilities.
@Magician ;)
@Magician Woo!
@BESW For Deny Your Love:
Nice.
Im using googles image search with the reuse filter btw
13:04
I've got a running gag that every game with a "magician" type card gets a picture of Alan Moore on it.
@BESW I officially approve of this gag.
In keeping with the theme of your images. "be the Monster"
because of course.
on a Psychedelic Powers card
13:06
Bela Lugosi == The monster.
@InbarRose Nice. I've already got Nosferatu on the Ancient Vampire card.
Reveal your Love:
A little too dated, maybe; this is a contemporary setting.
See exhibit A:
@BESW [puke a bit in my mouth]
@InbarRose i suspect this might be part of the idea
13:13
@InbarRose Great!
@JonathanHobbs [whistles innocently]
(The newly Un-Dead are always insufferable, whatever generation they're turned.)
For.. Um... "Spread the Hurt"
Deny Your Love:
@Magician Heheh.
Now I have two great choices for Deny Your Love.
Actually.
@Magician That works for Heal the Hurt too, based on the text.
True
@InbarRose You stopped playing when the edition came out that defined the beginning of Modern. I am pretty sure you could not be more officially old school.
13:18
Last one is Something Worth Having: Living alone is hardly living. You need allies to watch your back. You need friends to fight for.
@JonathanHobbs :)
@BESW I was looking for a photo of people rushing into a store on black friday during sales.
Toppling eachother over etc etc.
(There are werewolves in this setting, so it's less of a non-sequitur than it seems.)
@BESW Honestly. I don't think the title of that goal fits the sentiment.
Should be "someone" at the least.
13:21
Aye. I'm gonna tinker with this a bit before I invite The.
Or "something to live for"
I want it to be a little less irredeemably grim.
something worth fighting for?
I don't like that as a goal actualy
The goal shouldn't be so vague as to what it is referring to.
It should be vague in how you can accomplish and use it.. but not in what it is referring to.
Make Friends.
Make friends sounds like a challenge.
You can succeed or fail
"be friendlier" is a goal.
13:24
Hm.
What about assuming friends and making the Goal something like "Fight for My Friends"?
I like that a lot better.
Quick question. If I wanted to answer rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/40941/… with docs.google.com/document/d/… Where would I post it where link decay is very unlikely?
Leaders have a tendency to heal allies in D&D 4e, right?
13:28
@Aaron Remove quotes around the links.
@Metool Yup.
@Metool Every leader has a "let someone else spend a healing surge" power with multiple uses per encounter. It's not always the primary focus of the class, but every leader can do it.
@Aaron Your columns have some very strange alignment going on. But, you could post it and just not delete the doc.
@JoshuaAslanSmith Yo.
@JonathanHobbs Until Google kills Drive.
@BESW well, yeah, but that won't be for a while yet.
13:32
how is everyone
@JonathanHobbs Bite your tongue.
So you make a backup, and when Google kills Drive, you post it somewhere else.
I'm coffee.
@JonathanHobbs Last time I did that I think I was told to try to not use things like drive or something.
I can't remember exactly what I posted but I was told it was a no no.
@Aaron Well the general idea is to avoid ever linking to anything external. But if you're going to link to something external, Drive is going to be one of the longer lasting options.
If your answer ceases to answer the question when all the links die, that is when it is a no-no.
@JonathanHobbs Oh. Maybe that is what they were trying to say but worded it badly or something.
Before I actually post it can anyone see anything wrong with the list aside from formatting which I am about to fix.
13:34
oooh SVDPress's website looks like its teasing something
@Aaron Looks fine, apart from the formatting.
Where is the darn paint bucket thing you use to fill rows with colors?
What is with the slightly off-center centering? D:
@JonathanHobbs I have no idea. I just cleared all formatting and recentered it all.
@JonathanHobbs Much better.
Think I should add the different background color every other row?
It's perfectly clear as is :)
13:45
That is what I thought as well. I would add them if I could select more then one row at once. But google docs won't let me ctrl click to select multiple rows.
If someone comments on my doc I get notified right?
@Aaron I get emails about it when it's on one of my own docs
@JonathanHobbs Ok.
