Q: What are the main differences between Chaosium Cthulhu and GUMSHOE Cthulhu?

JakobI know that Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu is essentially the official Cthulhu RPG, but I've also heard a lot of good things about Trail of Cthulhu (using the GUMSHOE system). They both seem to be well-liked but don't appear to be related mechanically, so I would like to know how they compare before ...

Q: Question "bumping" - is it ok?

dpatcherySituation: I've got an answer out there (link withheld for obvious reasons) that just needs one more competitive vote to get the Populist gold badge. Is it considered bad practice to edit or comment on an old post just to bring it back to the top of the "Active" list so people see it?

@Dpatchery Any developments on your betrayal story?
@CRoss Any awesome developments on your PF Eberron game?
13:44
@GPierce Yes, the betrayal went off well. Just haven't had time to write it up yet.
@dpatchery Awesome to hear! I look forward to hearing about it once you have the time
@dpatchery same here
@GPierce @waxeagle It ended up being a neat skill challenge as the party needed to bust free of their restraints and fight in the darkness
@dpatchery awesome, look foward to hearing about it

@dpatchery also I'm totally no help wrt to your meta q. I've already upvoted both
@waxeagle You know the question I was talking about? I considered linking it but figured that would kind of defeat the purpose of the Q :)
@dpatchery wasn't hard to figure out. you only have one answer with >20 upvotes
@waxeagle true

While traveling through the forest, the party stopped for the evening in a clearing. My character (Vic) had poisoned the dinner rations with Goodnight Tincture. It’s a level 16 poison that attacks with +22 vs Fort and renders the consumer unconscious for an hour. Only being attacked or violent motion can wake the target, normal sounds and slight movements do not. Vic sat down at the campfire with the rest of the party members and began to explain his mission (he had recently joined the group part-way through an adventure and was expected to be the tie-in to the new campaign). He explained h
ugh that didn't preserve my formatting very well.
@dpatchery lol, it's still readable!
@dpatchery it was fine for me. sounds like a blast
How did the party feel about being fairly helpless?
@dpatchery Just finished reading it. Awesome, awesome hooks! Especially the foreshadowing for the epic level module!
@dpatchery Is The Demon Queen's Enclave a published or custom campaign? The name sounds familiar, but I'm thinking I'm mixing it up with a different module
@PatLudwig Howdy! So I played my first game of Shadows Over Camelot last night. We lost, but I'm hooked and ready for my next game.
@GPierce Excellent. I was introduced to Sabateur 2 days ago. Neat little card game.
@PatLudwig Have not heard of it. Who is it published by?
14:42
@GPierce I think Amigo puts it out in the US, not sure who designed it.
@PatLudwig I will have to check it out. I love board/card games. The German boardgame "revolution" in the past decade or so has made me beyond happy.
It's a game of dwarves building mines to treasure. 1-2 players are sabateurs trying to stop them. No-one knows for sure who the sabateurs are until the round is over.
@PatLudwig Sounds right up my alley. I like betrayal games like Shadows and Bang
15:04
@GPierce, @waxeagle glad you guys liked it.
@GPierce Demon Queen Enclave is the second published paragon tier module from wizards. Level 14-17
@CRoss what are the odds that the "Sponsoring community leaders to speak" would extend to hosting an SE sponsored game (or series of games) at a gaming convention?
@CRoss from here

@dpatchery Sounds cool regardless. I like how much customization y'all put into the published modules.
@waxeagle very possible, write it up on meta?
@waxeagle That would be awesome. I would make a concerted effort to attend
@CRoss still thinking about whether I can/want to...it would be awesome.
@GPierce I'd love to try to run a couple of dread sessions (there are no scheduled dread sessions at dragoncon right now) and maybe something else fairly simple if I could go and get registered etc...
@waxeagle It would be very awesome

Q: What steps should I go about to balance a character class?

PulseheadI'm trying to tweak/balance the Wizard (and to a lesser extent the Cleric) class(es) in Pathfinder. The two things that really irritate me are: Spell components. Tongue of frog and Eye of newt may be nice for color, but after casting the spell (wiht the Eye of Newt), it just becomes too muc...

@TheOracle Huh, interesting question... But I don't know what type of answers they are going to receive..

@waxeagle even if you're just walking around you could do fliers ...
@CRoss If I go I will make up some fliers. @GPierce if you go we should coordinate :)

Q: Can we get a graphic design?

C. RossI've been planning on making a business card I can hand out (and pass around the design) for rpg.stackexchange.com. I can setup all the text I want, but it still looks plain. Could someone design a simple graphic for the site? Note: This is not expected to be permanent, but something we can us...

@CRoss A couple of those are decent. I like the top one Ok.
19:53
@CRoss Interesting designs, though I'm sure any of them really scream or jump out at me as eye catching
The color schemes are too neutral. The one with the red die by Ian is the closest one to eye catching simply due to color choices.
The second one listed, with the d20, would be ideal but requires desperately a change in color. A red die would be preferable, again it's eye catching, and the grey isn't doing it any favors. A "louder" color really is what is needed. Yellow, while loud as well, might be too loud and detract, depending on what shade. Orange, on the other-hand is a nice compromise, but screams unprofessional. I really think red is the strongest color and lends itself to legitimacy.
(In interviews it is suggested that you wear a red tie....)
Red evokes power and knowledge, which I think represents both gaming and this site quite well.

@GPierce :-)

If we can get something graphically designed that gets settled on, I can see if local game shop will let me drop some off there. (There are quite a few in the area and I'm sure they wouldn't mind)
@GPierce yeah I had put something on my hangout's board
@CRoss Who wouldn't allow ads for a site that answers gaming specific questions?! No more rules debates in-store! It pretty much sells itself

Q: Where can I find a copy of Thrilling Tales *First* Edition?

p.marinoIf I understand correctly, Gareth Skarka (who I tried to contact via Google+, but haven't heard from it yet) worked on a Pulp Game called Thrilling Tales. The first edition was based on a streamlined D20-derived system called Odissey RPG. This was supplanted, in the second (and currently availa...
