whoa... Siri and Bing?
Huh?
@KronoS Not watching it. What?
Just asked my coworker. You can use Bing with Siri now? Neat endorsement.
Though I wonder how much of that is Apple trying to not rely on Google solely for anything anymore.
@BenRichards Siri now has integrated Bing searches
19:17
Bing is a useful "second opinion" if Google doesn't slam-dunk whatever I'm trying to find -- but 99% of the time I find Google's results to be as good or better
last week though Bing was returning no results for "Superuser"
@allquixotic It's a question of preference. I'm happy with either.
so, it seems like they still have some bugs
cpx
cpx
There appears to be no "Native SATA" enable/disable settings in BIOS on this computer.
19:42
@BenRichards The IE thing?
@OliverSalzburg Yeah
Well, the scrollbar thing
That teaches us to put chat problems on the site more often ;D
Haha, yeah :P
Right, not really specific to IE
You even got a star on your question, @OliverSalzburg :P
If only I could combine Outlook message windows into a tabbed window
Windows needs Compiz. :P
Wait... is this a reference to Compiz for Windows? >.>
19:55
@BenRichards what do you think of the big news around town today?
@allquixotic Yeah I know. Nuts. Still, good on him.
Aw. No dice.
It was an April Fools' joke post :P
Got my hopes up
@BenRichards what was?
@allquixotic Compiz for Windows :P
That would be awesome if it came to be :P
it'd also be insanely hard to implement, as you'd have to reverse engineer the proprietary WDDM interfaces (or use an NDA licensed document from graphics driver developers) and build it on top of that
and then convince Windows to stop using dwm.exe and the Windows shell that sits on top of it, and use something else instead
I'm sure it's doable. Stardock has been hooking into the WDDM for a while, I believe.

@BenRichards WindowBlinds 8 (for Windows 8) is out! (in beta)
@allquixotic Really? :O
Must try that out!
figured you would like to hear that; surprised you hadn't already... I got the email
haven't personally tried it just yet but I expect it to be about as flexible as it was before, maybe with new cool options like injecting different shaders for minimize/maximize animations? :D
Aha neat
Oh, WindowFX supports that stuff already :P
o_O
cool
I just installed the demo of WindowFX5
WindowFX is like Compiz but doesn't have tabbing :(
20:05
tabbing?
As in being able to combine multiple windows into a single window with tabs.
Didn't use it much in Compiz but it could do it.
you can do that? oh, right, compiz
window virtualization of sorts? each tab thinks it has its own window, i guess it'd have a HWND
it would probably have a true toplevel window offscreen that gets its contents blitted into the tab :P
Something or other
you might be able to add that functionality on top of windowfx even
hook user32!CreateWindow(Ex)
nods
Dangit, been doing IRC again lately. Habits!
20:21
Woo, it works! I'm a fan of this :)
I'll wait for it to come out of beta though :p

awesome link provided to me by slashdot

yes, that's a lot of "t"s
@KronoS Doesn't Android have great compatibility libs that add new functionality to older releases?
... so that users don't really have to upgrade to get shiny new apps?
21:04
@DanielBeck I always heard that Android had fragmentation woes that rivaled only Symbian's.
@BenRichards Device capabilities, screen sizes, etc. are probably a huge PITA for developers, but I thought OS version issues alone weren't so bad due to the libs.
@DanielBeck I've heard of API differences (at least in Symbian). I just thought Android was similar. Different hardware platform = different API?
21:17
@BenRichards Not that I know of, except for regular device capabilities (keyboard y/n, resolution). I work with occasional Android devs and they're pretty happy.
This is the compatibility lib I mentioned above: developer.android.com/tools/extras/support-library.html
Gotta love the review audits... Just got one I took care of already: superuser.com/review/first-posts/118856
21:33
@Luke Approve + upvote!
...as always
@DanielBeck things may have improved, but I read an article a year ago? that was from a more major app dev team... the said that they had supported several hundred android enabled devices
and yet their major complaint was that they had was incompatibility with user's devices
having to test for several hundred devices is an extreme waste of time
@OliverSalzburg I can't wait to hit 10K, I want to see a lot of the deleted posts you guys go through

Q: What should I use to keep tabs on a database?

Ben7005I am in the process of building a web application that will be running on my raspberry pi. It will basically be an application where you can schedule a certain program (I've written it in python) to be run at any time(s) that you enter. Building the web interface is not a problem, I have experien...

Off topic? Move to SO?
Solution seems to me that he should just write a script that uses sleep(). But that's a programming thing.
22:01
@BenRichards Or else Programmers.SE. I don't know the difference between those two though
@Luke I'll put it in SO

1 hour later…
23:29
@BenRichards I need something like cron, but it can't be cron (I could tell you why but I won't).
Jeeze, sorry for the triple-ping :P I hate it when a sentence feels wrong
