(and a beep sound)
(System event log entry generated by i8042prt)
And it reminded me of this:

@BenN... something I'm curious about that involves some intricacies with Windows. If the system is very busy (apparantly at the kernel level) and can't respond to hardware interrupts but isn't quite hung (e.g. lots of processes launching at once), if I move my mouse or scroll rapidly, the system will beep. This is from Windows itself, not a particular application and not from hardware. Why does the system do that?
...just replace "keyboard" with "mouse" in the event log entry.
Huh. Looks like an input device driver, like sermouse.sys (serial mouse driver), i8042prt.sys (PS/2 driver), or kbdclass.sys (USB keyboard driver), will generate this error if its internal ring buffer overflows, and it will call beep.sys to make the system beep. It is indeed kernel-mode.

@bwDraco Fun fact: in 64-bit versions of Windows, beep.sys will route sounds through the sound hardware rather than the actual PC speaker

@gparyani You can install it using external tools to anything
@SagarV What I assume is that a windows update wiped GRUB. It happens.
@gparyani Interesting.

@JourneymanGeek This user is at it again: chat.stackexchange.com/users/473183

user185131
Is there any way to get them to stop?

@Brahadeesh account suspended

user185131
Yes, they are using their "About me" profile on chat to regularly edit in a new para of text targetting a user.

Ah, i see

@Brahadeesh oh that person

user185131
1:28 PM
@jokerdino Yeah, it's now a different chat id from the one @TheLittleNaruto linked to, but it's most likely the same person behind it.

@Brahadeesh destroyed the user profile for now
two things, why are multiple persons pinging JMG about it and why in this room?

user185131
Sorry, I guessed it was off-topic here, but I thought it would be better to keep the discussion in one room since it was started here. TheLittleNaruto and I happened to come across this user in chatroom linked to Music Fans SE, which is why I also know about it.

user185131
@jokerdino Thanks for this, though. What would be a better way to deal with this issue if I see the user cropping up again and repeating this behaviour?

@Brahadeesh not a problem, I was just wondering.
@Brahadeesh as far as I can see, there are no tools to prevent it from happening again.
so, we just have to keep playing whack-a-mole.

user185131
Ugh, that can't be fun... If I need to, can I trouble you in this room again in the future, or is there a more suitable place / mode of bringing it to the attention of mods?

1:38 PM
yeah, you can ping me. I can lurk in your room if that's ok.

user185131
Sure! That would be great, thanks :)

@jokerdino why in this room? Well its one of the places of many one can find me :D

:P

2:28 PM
I see Journeyman, I join chat.
@Brahadeesh Ah! Guess only way is to report whenever we see such activities.

user185131
@TheLittleNaruto Yup!

4:35 PM
