I think that was the point- it's designed as a game, not a research tool

to save on it being associated with junk science commentary

you know, the usual clickbait drivel

"We loaded up Plague, Inc with the coronavirus and this is what happened"

given people are dying it'd be particularly crass

Cynically speaking, also means they can't be accused of profiteering from disaster

since they can say that they said not to use it

I'm getting tired of this whole processor vulnerability song and dance...

And yet again, only Intel appears to be affected as this involves Intel's implementation of TSX-NI. 9th Gen Intel Core processors and newer are unaffected, as are AMD processors of any generation.

Not sure why it gets rated E

It gets a thumb down for "This service retains rights to your content even after you stop using your account"

but surely that's a consequence of the CC license?

It also gets a thumb down for

called "Private", DHCP lease assigned to "*", doesn't respond to pings

Wondering if it's Chromecast-related

though that has a separate entry

Oh, I see, it's the MAC that's 'Private' (F0-4F-7C)

Is it active?

Its lease is very recent

but I don't see it in the actual wireless log

and no active connections

I had to reboot the router for other reasons

so I'll see if it comes back

trying to figure out how this WRT54G[L] is configured

as I can't seem to ping that either

despite it appearing on my network list

Sorted it

basically didn't want to respond on it's 'external' address

but happy to respond on internal address when I connected a laptop to it

had to change SSID because of a naming conflict

but hopefully all good now

So, couple interesting things

(something something, values of 'interesting')

the router's web "reboot" button didn't work, had to be done manually

router was churning 100% CPU on one of its cores

and now it's back up my Chromecast actually get signal

(rendering the setup of the WRT54GL somewhat moot, but hey ho)

so something strange was or is going on

Got a Wi-Fi scanner to monitor the channels in use?

Tomato provides a wifi scanner, actually

I use a WiFi scanner app on my phone, and it gives me the info I need

But you need it to be portable so you can see that the signal is reaching where you're targetting

so it must have been connected to the router my nephew had borrowed to play his PS4 there when he stayed over $months ago

OK, so two you control, one you don't

Next, take a survey of your home. Draw a floor map (paper or MSPAINT, don't matter). Go to various areas, scan with your Wi-Fi analyzer, and see what kind of strength you're getting

Unless you have WAP teaming setup, don't use the same SSID on all your routers
