The great thing is that it's silent because the ratcheting action doesn't rely on mechanical contact.
As for the shape of the mouse... that's definitely an improvement. The previous generations of MX Master mice had too sharp contours.
00:20
Oh, and Logitech has virtually eliminated plastic in the packaging. It's nice to see electronics companies taking our environment seriously.
@bwDraco Ha
That's quite impressive
01:29
All told, I cleared about 9 GB of cached data from the device.
That Google's reference messaging app does this is totally beyond belief.
Why on Earth would a messaging app keep 6.91 GB of cached data? This makes no sense at all.
And this is why I check and clean app caches on my phone periodically.
01:47
By golly, I really miss qasdf.

9 hours later…
10:32
Wow. Just wow.
The rumors were true, and this is a big one: Microsoft is getting special Picasso APUs from AMD for some Surface devices.
...welp. I'm getting the impression somebody has compromised one of Tom's Hardware's ad providers. I'm getting malicious redirects...
adblocker...
I have a long-standing policy to not blanket block ads...
@bwDraco That's foolish. The website won't be getting any revenue unless you're actually clicking on the ads
ALSO
I'd potentially be okay with ads if they weren't also privacy-invading trackers, but that isn't a thing anymore, so...
Yeah. PiHole + Adblocker for me.
I'm actually fine with that.
I block a limited, selected set of ads FWIW. The free Internet is dying and I'm trying not to be the problem.
Foolish or not, I have no plans to change my ad-blocking practices.
@rahuldottech Not true. Some ad networks and ads do pay per impression.
@bwDraco The problem exists. It's not going away. Try coming up with a solution, instead, maybe?
10:47
perhaps a free internet is dying in the US but everywhere else its fine
I'm adding a block entry to luckyguys[.]top and have reported it but I'm not doing anything else.
@Burgi eh. I disagree.
the problem with adverts is that they suck up huge amounts of bandwidth and screen real estate
11:14
@Burgi I know why. Let's not kill another online publishing business.
Nobody understands why ads have gotten this way.
Traditional banners are worthless.
I would much rather have to pay upwards of $100 a month for all the sites I want to see (in addition to the usual Internet access fees) than to block all ads.
It's unethical at best, and illegal at worst. Some website terms of service state your consenting to ads is "consideration" for access to content. Blocking ads would therefore be grounds for a civil suit (breach of contract, failure of consideration), and possibly criminal prosecution (as you wouldn't have a valid license to the copyrighted content, even if it's free). (IANAL, but entirely plausible legal theories...)
Even if there wasn't a legal issue, it just doesn't sit right with me to block all ads everywhere.
@bwDraco most decent publishers offer subscription services
it isn't illegal or unethical to block adverts
It's the "something for nothing" that feels... wrong to me.
do you leave the cinema before the credits have finished rolling?
because that is the same
@Burgi In that case, you've paid for access.
@Burgi No, that's not same at all
11:25
^
sure it is
Anyhoo, I've given my position and will disengage here.
credits don't exist for monetization
you are disrespecting the work that location team 2 did by leaving before their names have scrolled passed
@Burgi No you're not.
It's not like you'll remember a single name?
11:29
i put that in the same ethical bracket as running an adblocker
11:44
I ask myself 'could I live without this site', and always seemingly answer yes
that's my ethical dilemma over.
@rahuldottech Some ads are sold on a CPI basis, rather than CPC / CPS
cost per:
- impression
- click
- sale (/ conversion)

respectively
Oh, right, Draco mentioned that sorry
me and my friends were having an interesting conversation on the tv license last night
turns out most of us would prewfer a modular license
12:01
Like subscribing to Sky, say?
possibly
i'd pay for radio
They did used to have a radio licence
Think it was simplified away
> The radio-only licence was abolished on 1 February 1971
Didn't think it was that long ago :o
they had the b/w one that lasted until the 2000s
12:40
Uhm
Looks like we got hit with a massive spam wave
If smokey misses any, kindly give em what for
12:55
Will do boss

1 hour later…
15:03
> =SUM((E56:E188)/D189)
that's valid, right?
K, i derped.
> =((SUM(E56:E188))/D189)
you shouldn't have to wrap the SUM
BODMAS etc etc
meh, makes it clearer imo :O
yeah it does remove some confusion

4 hours later…
18:51
Soooooooooo my cpu fan was bust
idling at 30c, now down to idling at 17C
xD
30's not bad for a broken fan tbh!
19:12
yeah
the joys of a good case layout
20:02
hmmm
how hard is it to derust a gate for painting :/
ooo there's rust converting paints, interesting
21:05
Yea, Rustoleum is good
Just get it back to as bare as possible and cover the whole thing
21:28
I need to derust the doors of my metal shed
and repaint
been putting that off for a while now..
21:39
can you spare the limbs to do DIY?
@bwDraco Sadly in a laptop. (jntell I9900k since they did not offer any 8/16 or 12 core AMDs)
I think my limbs are fairly safe for painting...
I do want to put up some shelves tho
Bring on the saws :D
you said that about cleaning your motorbike
22:12
There are fewer moving parts when painting
Ever watched Bob Ross?
It's not losing a digit, just a "happy little accident"
if you got for red, you won't be able to see the blood!

1 hour later…
23:25
