There's this guy who thinks he can reliably analyze what's running on the machine if he has known-clean versions of ls, ps, and netstat. I am wondering if it's worth proving him wrong.

Here's the shitty thing. I don't get how we've manage to establish democracies in such a manner that what the people want is not what the leaders are trying to achieve.

is the short version
How do you handle implementing a major plebiscite / referendum where each of the outcomes means different things to people who are nominally on the same side? How long are they 'valid' for? How much do things need to change before you can revisit it?
As I've said before, at this point we know what all the flaws in our implementations of democracies are, we more or less know how to fix it too, but because of the way we've set up said democracies, it's very difficult to bring about the changes that would fix them.
How do you handle people making misleading claims during it? (that cuts both ways, in any hypothetical or real examples from recent years) How do you "honour a result" where basically the people who voted are pretty much split in half?

I guess to state it plainly: I don't think we do know how to fix flaws in the systems we have

We need electronic voting, per 'pledge' with money tied up in the delivery of said pledge. Pledge originators should be secret. (tho I don't think that'll happen).

@djsmiley2k Aye, you don't actually want people to be able to prove they voted a certain way; otherwise you can get intimidation/bribery/other rotten borough problems
Funnily enough when I read that on mobile (I was out for a walk) I read Burgi's and Smiley's positions as reversed
So getting caught up really confused the heck outta me
or the time the production company couldn't be arsed to actually count the votes and just made them up
iirc people went to prison for that one and compensation had to be paid out
especially considering the phonecalls are charged at premium rates

Weird... my phone has decided to start charging the battery to 4.36V rather than 4.32V. I wonder if the firmware had set the limit lower in order to extend battery service life, raising it later on as the battery ages...
@rahuldottech Indeed. But if you go that route you probably have to live off grid and grow your own food. Pretty much every large corp has done unethical stuff at some point.
The most ethical choice is to boycott those whose moral stances conflict with your values. But it depends on how much you oppose it and how much inconvenience this boycott would cause you.
I used to spend a lot of time at work here and in the last few months there have been some projects that started taking my time more and I've focused more and more and I guess I stopped coming here and the habit kinda faded a bit, then more projects...
But I do miss all you guys (and... girls? Do we have girls other than @Ave currently?)
