I want the chatbot back

2 hours later…

So my GitHub academic discount coupon has expired
Which I've had for two years now
The problem is, I'm currently not the student of any institution, since I still haven't taken admission in any college, and I need a valid school/college ID to re-apply
I re-applied with my school ID (which only mentions 2018-19), so hopefully they'll accept it
@bwDraco duuuude I love this drive
Currently applying a wim image to it over a SATA->USB3 cable, and I've never seen such fast progress while doing this to a drive before
So I've got 2x2 DDR2 ram in this laptop, but task manager only shows Total: 2975MB
Does this mean that the PC doesn't support more than 3 gigs?
08:30
@rahuldottech 32bit OS?
@MichaelFrank 32-bit processor, so yeah. Doesn't 32-bit support up to 4 gigs?
Integrated video?
> HP G60 Notebook PC
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.10GHz
@JourneymanGeek I think so
That would take a bit. 32 bit only goes up to 3.5 gb... Total iirc
That's 64 bit capable
@JourneymanGeek SERIOUSLY?
08:35
Maybe try enabling PAE
That's a potato tier c2d... Those we're all 64 bit
@JourneymanGeek I'm trying to boot into windows 10 now, I'm hoping that will make it work better
This PC originally shipped with Vista, and I've been using it with 7, but from what I hear, win10 compatibility is just as good?
Wait. Was windows 10 updated from 7?
Hm. In this situation in my experience sure
@JourneymanGeek No. I've been using windows 7. The above task manager result was from windows 7. Currently installing win10 on a different drive and trying to boot to see if this works better
okay yeah!
Detects 3.9 MB
this is better
Yay
@JourneymanGeek So I've been trying this thing
Where when I want to compare performance between several different devices
When I install Windows on an SSD, I do a Windows To Go install
And then I just plug it in through SATA and boot right up, without any setup being required
Thoughts on this method? Any potential drawbacks that you can think of?
I don't really do WTG
I mean this method seems to have worked just fine till now
08:42
And I run windows 10 on anything that would run it
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I'm doing that too now
08:56
Aaand I repcapped again
09:16
@bwDraco What are safe operating temps for the 860?
According to Open Hardware Monitor, mine is currently at 48C
yeah, he probably intended to say "ports"
In my school years, a girl during a history lesson said that after the Battle of Borodino Napoleon called Emperor Alexander I by phone and proposed a ceasefire.
He probably found a phone booth in the village of Borodino, dropped a 2-kopeck coin in there and made a call to St Petersburg
10:25
Lmao, Win10 is having a hard time setting up on a Centrino
10:42
I've done that
granted I had a (cheapie, completely off brand, dramless) SSD...
@JourneymanGeek I'm using an EVO 860
that's odd then
I think my machine was a mainstream c2d, but not that much more potato
@JourneymanGeek okay so windows has been set up
Booting pretty fast now

6 hours later…

Managed to make crash my phone by putting it in the freezer. The device shut down when I took it out and subjected it to load ._.
Why would you put it in the freezer? 0_o
Deep cycling batteries or somesuch?
The phone refused to start for about a minute, as though the battery was depleted. When it did turn on, the battery level jumped above its last known reading... pointing to the battery having completely shut down, possibly due to low temperature causing undervoltage.
@bertieb The Snapdragon 821 on the OnePlus 3T seems to be having trouble keeping up with increasingly complex websites and gets really hot really fast. I was trying to quickly cool it down but left it there too long. _.
Ah
Even still
On the subject
A friend of mine upgraded from OP3 to OP7P
I'm a little surprised the time was still correct. I faintly recall that the old Nexus 7 would lose the time if the battery got deeply discharged.
He's quite enjoying it
16:41
I'm trying to hold off on upgrading my phone.
Shame there's no info about when the 5G model will be on general release, not locked to a carrier (EE here in the UK)
It's times like these we need NotDog to give us his detailed knowledge of the state of 5G rollout :D
I would upgrade now, but seems premature with whatever they're calling 5G starting to spin up
@rahuldottech 70 °C. The drive will throttle if it gets too hot; this is rare for SATA SSDs.

> I got this tablet because I wanted something light, compact, and simple for catching up on the news or watching videos while I'm commuting or traveling. It can be tricky to pull out even a lightweight 13" laptop in a crowded subway car, yet I needed a full Windows desktop so my phone just wouldn't cut it. The Surface Go is the answer.

The 10" screen is just the right size for everyday reading, content consumption, and light productivity work, and it's small and light enough to carry and pull out easily in the field. The touchscreen is very responsive and has an 1800x1200 resolution for a

Mmm?
Long story short, got a Surface Go to slot in between my phone and laptop.
Ah, sure
That works
Not for everyone tho
But good that it works for you :)
16:50
Yeah. It's kinda slow; the cheap Pentium Gold is not doing any favors. The battery life is also poor but that's simply because it's small.
But it's ultimately a Microsoft Surface device.
@rahuldottech I was LONG ago
but there's no rusty screws on the floor of my sons room
tho i guess walking on the grass isn't the greatest idea ;D
@djsmiley2k I believe (but would have to check) that if you've had a full course you have effective lifetime protection
Basically if you're born after cough, vague noises you're probably safe
But don't quote me on that
@bertieb surveys a go go!
17:33
If they start permitting and site selection for some EPRs this year, and ramp up solar and wind in the near term, their EPRs will be ready to go by the time the solar panels and wind turbines need replacement. But cynically they'll probably rely on increased coal burning for their AC needs :/
@bertieb Tetanus actually requires booster doses every ten years.
it's sad when China is more pro-nuclear (and soon to be greener) than the rest of the world, and will be adopting European Power Reactors before Europe (although at least UK is building them, good on them)
@allquixotic I think people are just scared about nuclear energy in general, given the Fukushima nuclear accident...
Even though that was an older nuclear reactor design that is not as safe as modern reactors.
On highly vulnerable ground.
@bwDraco I'm not sure that is still true
But WILL CHECK
Whoops caps
17:57
@bertieb boosters every decade
In other news
My GPU arrived!
It's so pretty!
@rahuldottech Again, I don't believe that's still the case
At least here in the UK

Yes   No

I bet none of you have seen this message before.
@bertieb it's definitely the case everywhere. The vaccines wear out (become less effective).
Holy crap
@rahuldottech How sure are you of this?
18:02
(why S:? Because this is a virtual disk on an external drive, enabled using an open-source virtual disk driver called ImDisk; this is necessary to fool Windows into enabling a paging file on an external drive, which I do on Stolas)
@JourneymanGeek stuff like this can help us answer so many questions! ^
I think you might need one if there's a high chance of contamination
but I don't think routine injuries require a booster
@bertieb discussed it with my doctor after I got attacked by a dog.
nor do I think you require routine boosters
@bertieb Not everywhere. Two doses of MMR vaccine confers lifetime protection (but some may still benefit from an extra dose; I got a third dose of MMR last year)
But tetanus vaccine requires a booster every ten years.
18:04
@rahuldottech A dog attack is a bit different
> Adults need to get a Td booster shot every 10 years to stay protected. This vaccine protects against tetanus and diphtheria.
Well, if we're quoting
> New Study Suggests We Don't Actually Need a Tetanus Booster Every 10 Years
> A full course of tetanus vaccination consists of 5 doses of the vaccine.

This should be enough to give you long-term protection from tetanus.
@bertieb it was not being discussed in the context of the attack.
@bertieb a study might suggest this, but it's not the accepted practice amongst doctors
Huh
@rahuldottech I'm booted into Windows don't have access to academic stuff on here but I will check that
None of us are licensed medical practitioners. It's always wise to ask a doctor and not take risks with your health
18:08
Admittedly my recollection is sketchy
Well, yes
Just a discussion point was all
@bertieb NHS says if you're definitely sure that you got the 5 shot thing, you don't need a booster
But like I said. Ask docs.
@rahuldottech THat's in line with what I came across
But this was a number of months ago now
@bertieb Yes it is. "If you've been partly or fully vaccinated, a tetanus shot is usually still recommended as a precaution if you're travelling to an area with limited medical facilities and your last dose of the vaccine was more than 10 years ago." from Tetanus - NHS
As bad as Coventry is, I wouldn't consider it a place with "limited medical facilities"
;-P
@bertieb You can also play the lottery "From January to December 2016, there were only four cases of tetanus in England. "
Doesn't say anything about Scotland :)
18:12
Aye, I believe it's a HPE recommendation
I'll check what the state of play is oop here
But once I've finished streaming
if I remember
18:29
@bwDraco Yup, I have. Tried enabling SWAP on a system with 2000, XP, and Vista. Tried using the same page file
Heh.
Because the vast majority of users will never see a message like this. Most won't ever touch the paging file.
18:41
@allquixotic WE'RE BUILDING THEM AND MAKING THE CHINESE PAY MUAHAHA.
I've seen things you wouldn't believe. I've seen hard drives hanging by cables off the edge of pata drives, ssds fried by extreme heat. I've see swap so swamped it cried for death, and SAS drives held in place by cardboard.

Time to die.
I hope everyone got it
else it seems rather threatening xD
19:13
I just wanted to see if it was really necessary having a paging file, so I tried it one the first drive
@DavidPostill the booze and heroin acts as a natural antiseptic.
19:35
@djsmiley2k lol
20:01
This is my most well-received answer, ever
I've repcapped three days straight because of it
Good job! Which answer?
Awesome, I upvoted that yesterday
It was also the accepted answer till a couple hours ago, lol
@CanadianLuke :)
20:09
@CanadianLuke nah, it's cool. The currently accepted answer is good.
None is accepted, from what I can tell
@CanadianLuke oh, iirc the one with the most votes was
Nope, none
Ah okay
Well, maybe OP has decided to not choose just one. I've done that in the past, when multiple answers were really good.
And give up the 2 rep points? Nooooooo.....
20:12
@CanadianLuke haha
Hm. Only new questions HNQ, right? Not stuff that's a couple years old?
Yup
That's what let me rep cap twice
I just wrote this answer to an old question
I feel that my answer makes (more) sense - might turn it into a blog post.
We've actually had a discussion about this in this room a couple years ago
I've only used 11Kwh or 'unit' of gas, since 13th May o_O
20:50
Blehhhhhhhhhhhh
Thought a video had backed up to Google Photos
so I deleted it
because no space
can't find the video
@bertieb Ow :(
Data recovery?
If I knew how
Clippy, come here
I want to restore a file on my phone
Well, that was predictably useless
@bertieb was ir on your SD?
did you not use the google photos 'clear free space' thing?
'how do i rstore a file on mah phone'
hmmmm getting slowly drunk here

2 hours later…
23:04
@rahuldottech Nay, OP3 has no external storage options
@djsmiley2k Nah, deleted the file
Google Photos wants to clear like 28Gb of stuff
my preciousssssss
