2:26 AM
Good Morning!

2 hours later…
4:16 AM
Just saw this on Reddit and it's strangely relevant today...

2 hours later…

1 hour later…
8:14 AM
@djsmiley2k wth are u talking about lol i didnt post any solution. You're the obnoxious kind of person I don't want to talk to, I'll talk to someone else.

morning

welcome to block

oh play nice

he didnt play nice

i don't see a problem with what he said

8:16 AM
cuz you're his friend?
he was very rude
he talked about a solution when i never posted one
he didnt even bother with what i had to ask
didnt give me a chance to ask
must be one of those ppl i cant stand who think they know it all

and people can't make mistakes?

so block, ty internet
bye

wow you are a child

Trying to find decent people, but people like you 2 are great candidated to test the block filter

I can't remember the last time a minister was sacked

8:17 AM
I know everywhere there's ppl who are not decent so that's that lol

as opposed to "being asked to resign"

@bertieb it is looking pretty bad

huh

Yup

No clue what you're talking about

8:18 AM
Question is, can GW claim unfair dismissal?

What's GW?

it does look a little like a witchhunt

Take TM / HM Govt to an employment tribunal?
Yea
People didn't like him

the guy that gathered the evidence has a known hatred of him

Well if you mean the relation between D.R.M. and P.O.T. then a K.U.S. would I.A.S. the M.R.A.

8:20 AM
Seems like no conflict of interest there!

are you talking to yourself? lol

he was right to raise concerns about huawei
they might be unfounded but he was the defense minister

What with all their telnet backdoors in Vodafone? ;-P
Yea
There's appropriate forums for that though

yeah he said his piece in the cabinet and was ignored/overruled

Ah then the way to go is to resign and make a statement
AIUI
Also, I don't entirely get the objection to Huawei on the basis "they have to cooperate with the Chinese Government"

8:23 AM
there is something going on with huawei, most NATO members aren't using them in critical infrastructure

Post-PATRIOT (?), don't US firms have to comply with US Government National Security Letters?
As in "we can't tell you what we were told to do, and we can't even tell you we were told to do something"

not sure

Plus there was the stuff with the... NSA (?) co-locating 'secret' rooms in telecos sites

lol not just NSA.

So if data gets migrated back

8:25 AM
have you been to vote yet?
my polling station is really grim

not yet, god klnows who to vote for tho

do Monster Raving Loony stand in local elections?

no
they haven't existed for years
i was talking to my mates the other day

Oh =\
I thought they were still on the go for national elections

it took me nearly 45 minutes to locate a list of the candidates
and up until last night i still wasn't able to locate any information on them or their manifestos

8:30 AM
MMGA? Make Manchester Great Again?

we did get 1 leaflet from labour through the door but it was the normal crap about buses and how awesome the candidate is
i had to default to which westminister party is better aligned to my world view

Yea, that's the thing
Too few people care about local elections → so they're used as a proxy as popularity vote for WM → so local parties do less locally → so fewer people care
Vicious circle really

i know in scotland you have the STV system and a proportional system for the scottish government, does that also translate to the local elections?

vague stalling noises
...yes?

wish we had that here in england

8:35 AM
Whoops
Meant to edit

STV is also used for the european elections

Yeah, it's a start
Wholesale electrical electoral reform would be nice, probably
Dunno if it would solve problems
But at least they'd be different problems

your vote would have more meaning as the government would better reflect the real world

Yup, that's the theory
Don't see it happening any time soon tho :-\
Probably the best chance for it to happen would be a pre-October GE resulting in another hung parliament

i think the SNP are the 3rd largest party in westminster now
they are probably a better opposition than labour are

8:44 AM
It's possible
Rightly or wrongly, they don't seem to get a huge amount of coverage
That being said, there's an entire newspaper (The National) devoted to their worldview
So maybe it all balances out

have you seen the daily mail?

I go to great lengths to avoid doing so ;-P

9:39 AM
heh

9:57 AM
Okay guys
So much happened

Ave

Q: Why does Windows think that my wireless keyboard is a toaster?

ydaetskcoRI've inherited an old PC from my girlfriend's dad and when setting up the printer I got a bit of a surprise: Two questions spring to mind here: Why does Windows think my wireless keyboard is a toaster? Why does Windows even have an icon for a toaster in the devices menu?

@Bob a classic

@Bob iunderstoodthatreference.jpg
Oh you linked it too :P
@rahuldottech even classic-er

10:53 AM

No no no you can't sell your body.

It doesn't seem to have the 'Import mail and contacts:' bit
@djsmiley2k midnight cowboy harmonica plays
There's a tool that migrates an offline Outlook mailbox to GSuite
But this is outlook online

12:02 PM

@djsmiley2k lol

oi @rahuldottech don't mess with the cyclone that's coming either
/me sees the news

@djsmiley2k what what
@djsmiley2k :)

@Jou oh btw now that I'm 18, I applied for my PAN card, so I will receive my first paycheck soon :)
> The cyclone is currently moving up the Bay of Bengal, east of Andhra Pradesh.
Hm.
Bhutan doesn't share that coastline, and Delhi is far away, but my "hometown" is in Bengal so that might get affected
@Ave I'll tell you later, text me

12:08 PM
I figured you'd be miles away in reality
but as a father, I have to look out for all the kiddos, even those who are now legally adults :P
/me pats @Burgi on the head

Okay so my hometown will definitely be affected

derp
hopefully your dad gets washed out to sea?

12:41 PM
@djsmiley2k lol unlikely since he's nowhere near the coastline
But one can always hope... ;p

1:07 PM
What I imagine everyday life in Australia is like. https://t.co/Ogshcam3VZ
@Bob IS THIS REALITY

1:34 PM
@djsmiley2k It's a serious subject, of course... but dat name tho

@rahuldottech it's just fantasy

1:55 PM
Might ya don't get caught in a landslide

2:10 PM
@rahuldottech Bhutan is land locked yes?

Ave
2:40 PM
@JourneymanGeek yup

3:10 PM
@bertieb no escape from reality

@JourneymanGeek yes

3:43 PM
Which one should I choose when making shell script -- wget or curl?

curl for parsing the data as a stream, wget for pulling a file

on some platforms, curl handles https better

@djsmiley2k Isn't curl -o == wget?

@Biswapriyo if you redirect it into a file, the same way wget -qO- = curl....

more or less, like anything *nixy
there's 5 different, just as good ways to do anything. And 20 terrible ones

3:48 PM
just don't parse ls.

or parse html with regex

@JourneymanGeek How about parsing json with regex in shell script?

There's this handbasket, see, that you use to reach a road paved with good intentions, leading to a special place...

@Biswapriyo absolutely not
I mean they do similar things
but curl and wget are different in many ways
@JourneymanGeek wget also only does ftp/http(s). cURL handles many more protocols
> HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, GOPHER, TFTP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, TELNET, DICT, LDAP, LDAPS, FILE, IMAP, SMTP, POP3, RTSP and RTMP

@rahuldottech I was thinking also of how there's at least 3 ways to set up a network interface on linux ;p
... actually 5-6
(dhcpd,/networks/interfaces (AKA ifup), netplan....)

4:09 PM
dnf system-upgrade... 2478 packages to upgrade.
I'll think I'll be having quite a long lunch.

4:21 PM
starting.... now.

4:59 PM
40min later, 1500/4900 packages

> Just installed TensorFlow, gonna go update my resume to read “ML Engineer”. I’m super passionate about big data and cloud solutions btw.

5:27 PM
Speaking of sentient toasters, also see:

5:43 PM
@rahuldottech I'm hoping it's satire.

6:00 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy ...and it finished. Took quite a while.

6:17 PM
Great, it changed my default fonts and nearly all gnome extensions won't work.
Yay Linux. Yay open source!

6:43 PM
@rahuldottech big data is utter....
however ai is interesting

7:37 PM
I think I need to start reviving my Irssi
the internet is getting scary

8:03 PM
irssi <3

8:43 PM
World of Goo is free on the epic store

9:06 PM
Yea.. but Epic Store.

The @nitecorelight ULQ charger is intended for use with the Leica Q's BP-DC12 battery... which is mechanically and electrically compatible with the Panasonic DMW-BLC12 used in several high-end LUMIX cameras, including the FZ1000. Unsurprisingly, it will happily charge the BLC12.
I wish I found this earlier.
I've long known that Nitecore makes battery chargers in addition to their (awesome) flashlights, but completely forgot about the fact that Panasonic and Leica often work together on cameras and therefore have some shared accessories.

@MichaelFrank whats wrong with it?

This charger is rather hard to find (it appears to be discontinued but limited supplies are still available), and it's expensive at $60. But being able to charge in the field is worth more to me than an extra battery.
I love my FZ1000 enough that I'm investing quite heavily into accessories for it :P
(the Mark II version of the FZ1000 has built-in USB charging)
But I may still spend the $53 on a second battery at some point going forward.

10:17 PM
do you know what...?
it would have been really cool if the russian space agency had sold the buran to nasa

10:32 PM

Anyone hanging out on Riot?

1 hour later…
11:54 PM
I can't seem to get on it via mobile browser
Not sure I want to install the app
