@JourneymanGeek Sounds cool, but $20 is a bit expensive to me. Specially when they suggest buying two for a backup.
Hmmmmmm shipping is $10 for two keys. I was expecting it to be $100.
@JourneymanGeek What's the point of NFC here?
@ThatBrazilianGuy can use it for tfa with a phone
@JourneymanGeek Meaning the browser runs on the PC and the phone is "paired" with the key, or meaning the browser runs on the phone and you place the key near the phone and authenticate via NFC?
...now that I think about it, I have a non-NFC phone. If I activate U2F on Google and other sites, would it prevent me from logging in on my phone? o.o'
@ThatBrazilianGuy no.
Basically u2f is the first choice. You can use other methods as a backup
So Android's device based tfa is a backup
I'd like to move stuff off my phone though
Sounds cool. But alas, it's almost prohibitively expensive considering currency conversion and import fees
As usual... :'(
I got my current u2f key for 8 dollars
GitHub promo
01:41
I found one on Amazon for 8 dollars, but the reviews complain it's a bit fragile, the button fell off, etc
And after shipping and fees I'd pay BRL 105 (USD 25) for one or BRL 170 (USD 41) for two.
A min wage salary here is USD 250 and my phone costed me USD 125.
So... Yeah, cool but expensive.

the same people are making a fido2 capable one rn, which has much better build quality:
https://shop.solokeys.com/
I'm waiting for the NFC one-- they released the firmware and posted a kickstarter update (I didn't back them, but I'm still reading the updates) just a couple days ago, so I assume it's going to be added to the site in a week or month or so.

I'm waiting on the NFC model

also since I run windows, I can apparently use the fido2 version to unlock my pc

Eventually!

Hey guys, how can I get an array of just file names in a bash script?
@RogUE Voting to close as "too broad"
For example, where are you getting the names from? What are you going to do with them? What have you tried so far? Where are you stuck?
currently, I am using this command:' list=(./*.png) ', but the file names are prefixed with './', which I would like to remove.
What's wrong with list=(*.png)?
@RogUE abuse cut or awk?
You can run cut with say / as a field limiter
@DavidPostill its the preceding './' for the file names, for example ./wind_potential_4.png .
@JourneymanGeek Will this be enough- cut -d '/' $file where $file will have a file name ?
09:49
@RogUE try it?
@JourneymanGeek No, it isn't working. I am getting some rubbish as output. I think it is reading the file I specified with $file, instead of the string in $file.
got it, ${file##*/} will get me everything after the last '/'. From (stackoverflow.com/questions/19482123/…)

Guys. So I get a crush on this girl. She's really nice and we've got a great conversation going and hitting it off totally and she's staying in town after twelfth grade and then...
"I really don't like dogs"
"Cats are cool tho. They constantly seek attention. Like me."
c'mon, man
You could tell useful facts
s/saliva/dog drool/

@rahuldottech Who said which phrase?
16:15
@ThatBrazilianGuy she said both
@NordlysJeger bold of you to assume that I haven't already read all of what-if as a geek
I didn't assume, I said you could tell you this fact
@rahuldottech Well. She could be hinting about her to you.
She's also totally wrong about cats.
I took these out of an old laptop and I can't figure out whether the speakers are actually this big or that's some weird casing that's safe to take apart?
@ThatBrazilianGuy I know, right! Cats are cool! As are dogs! Both are great! Animals rock!
@ThatBrazilianGuy she implies nothing nice.
@NordlysJeger nvm
Pinging @JourneymanGeek on the off chance that he has experience with laptop speakers. Also, @bwDraco
Ok gtg study see y'all l8rz
@rahuldottech That could mean some different things, with different implications. It could range from "I'm totally clingy and a drama queen" to "I really like frequent gestures of affection"
@rahuldottech Well, I'm more of a cat person. Dogs are friendly and nice and cute (specially as cubs), whereas cats are awesome and... can't explain...

I blame @bertieb

Funnily enough

we just back up now.
server however is having some difficulties D:
it's come up, but I can't ssh in xD
unless I've somehow borked my local ssh key

welp. sorted, weird.
Anyway, left the inlaws in brum and it was cool, but fine
got into the car it just started to rain
get near the motorway
SNOWSTORM OF DOOOOOM
It was almost as bad as the ones we saw in iceland
And this is on my 'new' car, with dodgy wipers (blades on order). ¬_¬
other than that, the car is awesome

Weather forecast is totally wrong. Supposed to be no rain here and we are getting intermittent hail ...
18:52
@djsmiley2k what did you get in the end?
Kia Rio
nice motor
2nd hand?
19:35
@rahuldottech Not unusual. Speakers on today's laptops are actually much better than they used to be as manufacturers not only aim to move away from the idea that laptop speakers suck (as they historically tended to), and show that they can actually sound great, especially when combined with software audio enhancements tailored to the system's specific audio setup.
@Burgi yah
20:02
@DavidPostill I saw about 4 seasons in the span of 90 minute while watching the Liverpool vs Burnley game this morning.
Sun, then hail, then downpour, then sun, then a bit more hail.

...welp. Dug out an old AMD Radeon HD 7750 graphics card. Not sure what use I might have for a graphics card that even Raven Ridge will run circles around...
@MichaelFrank We had a snow blizzard first thing with really big flakes, and it disappeared within about an hour
@bertieb Oh, I did see a bit of that as well actually.
(Ellesmere, from the code "1243" on the GPU die, after removing the fan, which was trivial on such a cheap card design)
Huh, I have a 7750 in my old HTPC box.
It was the best card I could find that included a low profile bracket.
Mine's an HIS iTurbo card.
21:37
I think my one is Sapphire from memory...
21:47
AMD-branded DRAM chips. Fun.
Hmm... misread the model number.
It's Cape Verde.
512 SPs in 8 CUs.
22:01
Back in the day...
> HIS iCooler Radeon HD 7750
("iTurbo" is their software suite)
I wonder if I should put some of my old Arctic Silver 5 on it...
(because I think I'm going to want to get some Noctua NT-H2 for more serious uses anyway)
Cleaned the aluminum heatsink. It's pretty clear this thing is made to a price point.
> Incident Resolution notes: Hard reset desk, now functions correctly.
What a time to be alive!
The thermal paste is probably some low-cost solution from the likes of Dow or other large chemical company.
(OEMs typically get this stuff in very large quantities at minimal cost)
Though some OEM thermal pastes are better than others. Corsair's liquid coolers use a high-quality paste from either Dow Corning or Shin-Etsu (sources not clear either way).
...it's Dow Corning, and one of the better ones they make.
@MichaelFrank beautiful
the "screen resolution" is apparently based on using MobaXterm's X server through SSH, so that's totally bogus (it's the accurate screen resolution of my desktop, though)
22:18
@allquixotic :D
In any case, no reason to replace the preapplied thermal paste on the liquid cooler because it's a high-quality thermal paste. Astaroth has never had any serious thermal problems, even though I've spent quite a bit of time replacing and tuning fans for optimal airflow without excessive noise.
everything on my server is currently Ubuntu (native or in containers or in KVM) or Windows Server 2016
@allquixotic So the CentOS term was my server box (hence the name).
Ubuntu is on this laptop and runs reallllly well.
Except I need to figure out how to enable the physical secondary mouse button.
Two finger tap for right-click is frustrating.
22:46
@rahuldottech probably both
But the casing could be an integral part of the speakers too
23:27
@JourneymanGeek Might have some internal voids for... reasons. Could also just be that they couldn't secure the speakers any other way.
