Speaking of which I really need to move to something cheaper, since I'm practically not using this one

@rahuldottech dude. There's a reason we have that rule ._.

@FMLCat That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.
Oops

@bertieb too busy with exams now, laterzzzz
Ok so India is sortaaa at the verge of war now?
@JourneymanGeek did you escape yet?
Back home with my comfy chair.
My biggest worry now is the chinese spying on me through my APs ;p
@JourneymanGeek luckyyy
Did you hear about the bombings?
07:21
@DavidPostill hm. The wireshark dumps look like gibberish
Ah well ... it was worth a try ...
(I might not know how to read them, nor do I know what's useful)
Me neither. I just know that is what the network gurus used to look at when diagnosing VoIP issues at $job-1
You might want to ask in the network eng chat room if someone can help you interpret them ...
07:26
hm. Feels a bit help vampiry :/
@Bob what the hell man
Wasn't USB supposed to remove all confusion?
And just be one universal standard?
It's in the name ffs
@DavidPostill also off topic there
though I suspect folks might find it amusing.
Off topic? Really?
> (Note: All questions about RESIDENTIAL/HOME networking and CONSUMER-grade equipment, are explicitly OFF-topic.)
07:33
@allquixotic Girthy Long boi???
I've got a router I built myself connected to the cheapest mesh router I can find

One argument I saw against Flat Earth is that if the earth were flat, cats would have knocked everything off of it by now. — Acccumulation yesterday
Hahaha
16:43
@JourneymanGeek Feels like there's been a few Pets answers recently which boil down to "out cat the cat"
One about a diabetic cat IIRC

Just finished another routine server update.
got this in spam:
what an epic name
ffs why do things have to be so weird sometimes
We've got a new monitoring server so I'm adding hosts for snmp monitoring
all going well until I come to one that doesn't work
digging deeper, I can't find anythin to allow the existing monitoring to work
it's like it works simply by magic, because from what I can tell it should be blocked on the firewall.
that reminds me of early IPv6
Firewall with lots of IPv4 rules. And windows helpfully opening V6 up wide
@bertieb dude I did it again
Said something awkward and weird (in front of my crush!!) and now I'm dying inside
@rahuldottech If she noticed, might actually help you in the medium-term, assuming you want it to go somewhere
Too laid back and bland? not gonna notice you Nice guy who says the occasional interesting, if somewhat odd, thing? now you've got interest
People say weird awkward stuff all the time
Especially around exams
source: am sitting exams
No-one† cares
†mum mode on: anyone who does care about you saying one silly wee thing isn't someone you want as a friend anyway
Still though, I get the cringe factor, and it's hard to let yourself off the hook even though it's logical
source: have said many cringey things in my life
The day I realised no-one cared was the day I became a much happier person
Do something else, take yer mind off of it, and forget it :)
17:17
Damn. Good old games is getting worse
Privacy update?
Haven't read it yet, is there a tl;dr?
Financially not in optimal shape
@Hennes Yeah. The GOG platform is dying. I hope that with the Steam hegemony breaking up, they can leverage this opportunity to pull in more gamers and developers...
(something something something, Epic Games Store)
I am just trying to look which more games (DRM free!) to buy and store on disk
Typically, I get "lighter" games (as in, something that doesn't necessarily need Astaroth to run) on GOG, but Steam is still an option.
It's not really DRM that's the issue more than it is convenience and a lighter footprint (I don't need to launch the Steam client or other client software to run the game).
17:31
hmm, I seem to have 95 GOG games
And yes, I knwo that sounds like aq piN number
But that includes the game I played on a 386-SX 16MHz:
Star wars - Xwing 1993
and Star wars - Xwing 1994
and Star wars - Xwing 1998
Ah, the good ol' X wing games
Takes me back
17:46
@XKCD, are you Randall?
@bertieb truue
@XKCD integration makes up 30% of my math syllabus and I FEEL THIS IN MY BONES

Magnets, you say
Effective over infinite distances,you say?
19:28
@djsmiley2k apparently...?
indeed.
Now I think about it, I'm not actually sure that's true xD
20:00
@allquixotic That reminded my of our card playing table...
20:16
o_O
@bertieb I was fortunate to learn this some time in my teens
it still took me 10-15 years to work thru the other crap

Then again... using NVENC produces a consistent ~10-15% drop in framerate in Assassin's Creed Origins, which is far better than the much greater and less predictable drop (including stuttering) with CPU-based encoding.
Brilliant.
Now they've cut that overhead to closer to 5%.

2 hours later…
22:42
Oo eck
Me homeserver's just gone offline

1 hour later…
23:55
@bertieb Kids?
That's normally the reason my homeserver ends up offline.
