@djsmiley2k My brain's gone to much the last few months
Mostly due to problems with drug addiction
02:00
Well, finally got my new phone... Applied the screen protector... And now it's charging -.-
@FMLCat Bob says you're familiar with Openwrt. Can I pick your mushy brains?
I've got a dir865L - alastair.d-silva.org/… suggests there's a working Openwrt build but I know from experience I can drop in firmware fro. Recovery mode cause I run tomato already. Can I use the latest/build my own if the arch matches?

1 hour later…
03:37
@bertieb mm yes carry on
@CanadianLuke yes splendid indeed
@rahuldottech ... Its stopped being funny... make sense, old bean.
03:56
This is a massive gamechanger.
I wish the Google Authenticator would let us transfer to a new phone
Yup. Disabling and reenabling 2FA on every service... is unfun.
Before I begin, let's see what I can use as a benchmark...
(going from thr OEM-supplied 17.7 to 19.2.3 should result in a massive increase in performance)
I think I'm going to use Catzilla.
@bwDraco enpass
04:22
Catzilla on Stolas at 1080p preset, Radeon Software 17.7: Final score 1996. Large portions of the main benchmark sequence were being rendered at less than 15 fps.
(no thermal throttling was detected)
Let's update the graphics driver.
The stock driver is 18 months old.
Launching the benchmark after the update...
Hmm... right from the start, we're not seeing a massive increase in performance (large portions still well below 15 fps) but the performance has still improved a bit. Do bear in mind this bench is pretty heavy on the CPU...
Hmm... no real difference (1969).
Well... this might not be the best way to bench it...
But I'm not rolling back the driver.

@CanadianLuke chuck your TOTP secrets into a password manager
quite a few have built-in token generators now too
or... use one of the alternatives that lets you export secrets

2 hours later…
06:50
@CanadianLuke I used Authy.
07:10
<p class="MsoNormal" align="justify"><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

@MichaelFrank <meta name="generator" content="FrontPage 4.0"> ?
Or is MsoNormal a reference to one of the other Office applications?
Yea... I've got no idea.
Even better :P
Good value for money though, look at all those non-breaking spaces that got thrown into the deal
Can't say fairer than that
@bertieb I think that just happens when you save a Office Document as HTML. So this page was probably designed in Word before someone recited the black ritual to put it on the internet as a webpage.
@MichaelFrank Ah yes... that poor, poor goat
09:01
morning
09:23
@bertieb til what nbsp means! :O
@djsmiley2k Prevents an automatic linebreak, dontcha know?
also something that will (should?) get rendered by HTML rendering engines
unlike, say, multiple regular spaces in between <p> </p>s
Speaking of <p> elements, I'm off to the bathroom
Anyone get email from "stackoverflow 110 William Street, 28th Floor, New York, NY 10038"? Who lives there?
thats the stackoverflow head office
Can't say I've ever received an email from a street address though.
@djsmiley2k Yea, if you have words you don't want to split over a line like "The Eagles" you can throw a &nbsp; in there and it'll wrap both onto the next line instead.
09:39
look at me! answering linux questions! superuser.com/a/1409494/393570
09:55
oi oi excel experts
@bertieb also can be used to render multiple spaces deliberately
I want to show some data from one worksheet in another, but only when the specific value is in the first worksheet
Since they're ignored by default unless in pre-type formatting in HTML
data, data, data, service-desk
I only want to show it when the service-desk value is in that column
@JourneymanGeek I initially wanted to only speak meme for a weak but it got boring
09:57
@djsmiley2k =IF(A2='service-desk',OTHERSHEET,false)
@rahuldottech you really have to be mindful of when you are being annoying...
@rahuldottech Just don't put like.... 100 in a row. :|
@rahuldottech Yup
36 mins ago, by bertieb
unlike, say, multiple regular spaces in between <p> </p>s
But if you're using spaces for alignment in HTML I'll laugh at you mercilessly you're doing it wrong
↑ I figured I'll kill you in your sleep mighta been a bit harsh there
nuke them from orbit
only way to be sure
That's the badger!
10:06
@JourneymanGeek mm yes ahh indeed
Sorry
@bertieb everyone knows that you should only use tables for HTML alignment!
...Could be worse, you could be a college asking entrants about their sexuality
At first I was like... "What?"
Then I was like "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???!"
@bertieb eugh
Also...
@bertieb i think ross noble did that joke a few years ago
@rahuldottech not as sorry as you will be
10:13
@Burgi Could well have done
@bertieb actually.... As long as it's confidential...
@rahuldottech Ya, there's ways to do it well; then there's... well, that form :P
i know what has happened on that form though
its a copy pasta jobbie
@JourneymanGeek Yup, I have no issues about them asking these things
provided "nunya bidness" is an option
That's probably the Chinese option.
10:14
Helps with demographics, service provisioning and the like
i bet on the ethnicity bit that chinese is in the same position
And / or possibly required by local laws on preventing discrimination, where applicable
Okay seriously what's with the mods here getting triggered so quickly nowadays
It's almost like you archaic senile old men aren't compatible with humor...
(hides)
since you finished school you've become extremely annoying. I get that you have a LOT of free time now but most of us work and really don't need to deal with a bored child
i strongly suggest you get a part-time job until you start university
10:30
@Burgi ooooo
Sheet1!I="service desk"
=IF(Sheet1!I="service desk",Sheet1!A,FALSE) even
that references the entire column
10:48
=IF(Sheet1!I601="service desk",Sheet1!C601,)
K, this works
cept it returns a 0 if there's no value in the original sheet :/
in the false bit you can put double quotes and it will be blank
=IF(Sheet1!I601="service desk",Sheet1!C601,"")
Ah that's it
knew there was a way, was trying to remmber it
wtf the Zeroes still showing up
i'd need to see the data at this point
to Matrix!
11:52
Doesn't someone here work with Django!?
12:17
@rahuldottech or you whippersnappers don't take a hint...
12:58
Any hint on difference between /etc/dbus-1/session.conf vs /usr/share/dbus-1/session.conf files. which one is read first?
13:42
Normally the one in /usr/share is just an example
@allquixotic checks "Hmm, it's not a snake... I'd say you're okay"
as long as you don't take the batteries with you it'll be ok
14:10
@allquixotic as long as the batteries are in the torch
just don't take the batteries and buy new ones at the destination
Though... CR123 are primary cells no?

i'll be honest now i've googled them i don't think they are standard
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek Yea, they're primary.
@Burgi CR123 is pretty standard. Not as common as AA, but still.
Probably the most common lithium primary cylindrical cell.
14:13
are they also called C cells?
Bob
Bob
No.
C is 1.5 V and usually carbon-zinc or alkaline.
Fits in the D, C, AA, AAA series (B and A are ... uncommon?)
i don't think i have seen the CR123's in the supermarket
Bob
Bob
CR123A is a 3V lithium primary.
@Burgi They're uncommon.
Used to be used by cameras, IIRC.
Now used by torches.
You'd buy them in specialty shops, not the supermarket.
e.g. you can get them at the hardware store here bunnings.com.au/…
trust @allquixotic to get something uncommon.... ;)
you can put an 18650 in it - two CR123 are the same dimensions
Bob
Bob
14:16
Oh, it's the most common lithium primary for a torch.
If you go rechargeable 18650 is common.
so I'll just buy a new 18650
i'll be honest i'm surprised he hasn't got the Apple iTorch
Bob
Bob
You'll probably have a harder time taking a 18650 onto a plane, if they check.
I have an Apple iTorch on my iPhone
now without a bulb (to make it slimmer)
Bob
Bob
14:17
Li-ion secondaries are far more dangerous than a lithium primary.
border? I'm not leaving the country
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic I never said anything about borders :P
uh huh
is someone trying to flee america? ;)
I'm bringing two Macbooks and two iPhones so we're already gonna have a lot of batteries with us
Bob
Bob
14:18
@allquixotic What does your airline say?
oh and a backup 10000 mAh USB-A / USB-C charger
our baggage by weight:
60% batteries (:D) including the batteries in the devices
20% clothes
20% electronics
Bob
Bob
> Lithium metal batteries (a.k.a.: non-rechargeable lithium, primary lithium). These batteries are often used with cameras and other small personal electronics. Consumer-sized batteries (up to 2 grams of lithium per battery) may be carried. This includes all the typical non-rechargeable lithium batteries used in cameras (AA, AAA, 123, CR123A, CR1, CR2, CRV3, CR22, 2CR5, etc.) as well as the flat round lithium button cells.
Primary lithium are fine.
14:19
@Bob done that pre battery freakout
Bob
Bob
> Lithium ion batteries (a.k.a.: rechargeable lithium, lithium polymer, LIPO, secondary lithium). Passengers may carry all consumer-sized lithium ion batteries (up to 100 watt hours per battery). This size covers AA, AAA, cell phone, PDA, camera, camcorder, handheld game, tablet, portable drill, and standard laptop computer batteries. The watt hours (Wh) rating is marked on newer lithium ion batteries and is explained in #3 below. External chargers are also considered to be a battery.
Swapped to a small keychain torch and a wind up led

Rechargeable are fine too, with limitations.
hmm, pdf.js doesn't work in Firefox right now for some reason
I just get a blank page
Bob
Bob
Dunno how happy they would be about bare cells (for 18650s) but proooooooobably fine if packaged properly.
Carry-on only. Not checked.
14:20
@Bob I think that's mostly a no go
also lol @ the url
JMG's dog wrote that pdf
faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/**ash/ash_programs**/hazmat/passenge‌r_info/media/Airline_passengers_and_batteries.pdf
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek I've heard both ways. But FAA only says they need to be properly packaged and protected against shorts. A specific airline might have tighter requirements.
Your best bet is to look at your airline's guidelines though.
Also... It's a pain not being able to throw my spare gear in check in
I take like 5 minutes pulling all my crap out for checks
Bob
Bob
Qantas specifically says you need to tape over the terminals of spare/loose batteries.
One of those plastic carrying cases probalby won't hurt.
@JourneymanGeek I put the crap in large ziplocks and just pull it out in one go
batteries/phones/etc
leaves my carryon mostly empty, but eh :P
Ya. I should next time
.... I need to actually add a few things
I need to swap my europlug phone charger with more ports, I also probably need a repeater (thought the best option I have needs an app to configure) and a europlug for my usb-pd charger....
Next time...
14:30
@rahuldottech Your jokes are so bad they are like a TV show where they hold up a "laugh" sign. Nobody laughs so they add canned laughter ...
😃
That said I don't think I'm up for another overseas trip unless a major lifestyle change happens for now
@JourneymanGeek Any progress on the marriage front?

@DavidPostill Thanks.
oh yea
how's the net situation, @DavidPostill? still on that tiny mobile cap? (10GB?)
I have a Microsoft Natural ps/2 keyboard, and I use a ps/2 to usb adapter to connect it to the laptop. For some reason it fails to work now and then, and I have to physically unplug and plug it back many times to make it work.
Then it may work for a couple of days, and then disconnect again. Usually after I put the laptop to sleep.
I wonder why it behaves in this way. Its disconnections are apparently random.
15:18
Active or passive?
@JourneymanGeek I've no idea. Looks like an active adapter. I probably should try buying another.
It only says "Made in China" on its surface.
No model number, but looks like an active one.

@ThatBrazilianGuy thanks
it's now playing in my head.
I didn't even click it
17:03
@djsmiley2k Clicking it is the funny part
It's certainly... incongruous
You saw who originally tweeted, right?
I (still) think whoever that guy is that tweeted looks like some kinda Sith Lord in their profile photo
Or if Mark Harmon and a Sith lord had a baby
And now that baby grew up to be president
brb, phoning Hollywood
17:59
Well, I obviously came in at an awkward time...
@ThatBrazilianGuy I did now lol
@Bob Yes. But I usually go through 30GB or more a month (UKP 20 for each additional 10GB). I've budgeted for that. Have a lot off time of in March (I have holidays to take before I lose them) so will go flat hunting and then try to get a better connection.
18:26
So Vodafone UK have gone from being a completely evil, anticompetitive and backwards network to partnering with their arch rivals and being the first to deploy advanced microsites inside phone boxes in Edinburgh

19:07
@DavidPostill Would it be cheaper to get a higher initial cap?
That's how it usually works out here.
No Cussing Rule rahul
@allquixotic language without context is meaningless
And in this context the cuss word isn't offensive
So... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
s/offensive/offensive to anyone reasonable/
19:24
@rahuldottech rofl
the problem is flags are contextless
but hey who gives a flying monkey ass?
I don't, just telling you to watch out for flag trolls
yah
i've given up caring
if someone gets their kicks of flagging me, i hope they die. :D
That's how I get my kicks
wishing death on people
1st world problems... My new phone needs a nano SIM, and I only have full and micro... I need a SIM cutter
For the record... I don't find that note offensive... I don't see any flags raised yet, but who knows
I've been flagged before for saying the F word without even saying it at anybody
it's the new world we live in
I have a SIM cutter :P
19:39
Too late, bought a new SIM for $20 plus tax... -.-
I don't think I've ever been flagged.... Hmm...
Nevermind! I've been flagged lots
I've also been flogged lots... ah, the life of a sailor
dances a merry jig
Wait what
Oh, @rahuldottech, I just came across my multimeter and USB-to-RJ45 dealie; still want to test anything with those?
19:59
@Bob It make little difference to the cost, some months I don't go over, and there is no rollover ...
20:28
@CanadianLuke I never saw better flag-bait than that sentence. :)
Then flag it :P Lol jk
Sailor @bertieb By the power of luna, flags away! :)
Ah, it was 'make up' make up power
For one I do not feel sad not remembering that :)
Meanwhile, an article stating that if you get your hands on a server (brand independent). Install malware in the baseboard cards and then manage to get it to another customer is.....

As is any server, but hey,, let is less headline hunting
