> It's just you. matrix.bertieb.org is up.
I thought so
GLARES IN NETWORKING
o/ for now
Bob
Bob
@bertieb 8448 is the unencrypted port, iirc. general recommendation is to front it with a reverse proxy
@rahuldottech it's as fair as I can be when you claim what I said is "too complicated" but refuse to elaborate on how or why.
@Bob Ugh, I will, once I know if it's even feasible
Bob
Bob
see: "secret hacky shit"
Ugh.
Riot. In a bit. Gotta get home first.
Bob
Bob
s/shit/stuff/ if you want to be less colloquial.
granted, most selenium scripts are hacky crap themselves, but they're fairly stable as long as the environment doesn't change
13:07
@Bob riot. now.
pretty sure there's a jquery way to do it xD
but appently this link I found will work anyway in a iframe, so <shrug> ?
holy crap it works :O
Sorry @rahuldottech I've figured it out using iframes :D
Thanks for the assist tho @rahuldottech and @Bob
... ...
... ... ...
Well, have fun, @djsmiley2k
What is weird, is it didn't work until I changed the title text XD
13:23
hmmm that's weird
the graph comes out really small >_<
Bob
Bob
wait, why are you putting it in an iframe if you want to screenshot it?
13:38
Why will my <hr> not centre D:
> hr {align:center;width:80%}
you can't centre HRs in css
you have to use the attribute
Bob
Bob
@djsmiley2k ...it's centered by default, no?
13:58
it is, yeah
soooooooooooo
something is streching this webpage to be 1024px wide
not sure what tho :/
Bob
Bob
devtools are your friend
i like how in the pictures, london, dublin and zurich everyone is outside but the singaporean office they appear to be still inside the building

man, i'm bored
@Bob the devtools protocol is also your friend :)
my iPhone 7 Plus and Note 8 are both getting more and more bids as it comes down to the wire :D 4 hours left on each. Go, go, go!
Bob
Bob
@HornOKPlease lol, how much is the note 8?
14:34
@Bob currently $340
Bob
Bob
@HornOKPlease ooft
64 GB midnight black model that's been tested and works on CDMA and GSM
Bob
Bob
I'm actually really tempted by the note 9
first dual-sim australian model of a samsung flagship
@HornOKPlease how much was it new?
@Burgi I bought it in May, Certified Refurb from Amazon for like $600
figure I got some value out of it as I used it for a few weeks and occasionally used it for Android testing
I'll be without an Android phone once it goes; oh well
only needed one once in a blue moon
plus there's always BlueStacks
14:36
its an expensive phone just for a testing platform
well I'm in love with the S Pen, but I'm also in love with the Apple Watch
me and my Apple Watch Series 4 are inseparable. My family has a history of atrial fibrillation (heart condition) and the watch will let you know if it detects you have it
FDA certified medical device
we just use browserstack for our mobile testing
that's not the kind of testing I mean
Bob
Bob
@Burgi browserstack is so laggy
*cries in australian internet*
5
like installing apps and such
14:39
@HornOKPlease Bluestacks is actually surprisingly great
@Bob that surprises me as their main data centre is over in your neck of the woods
Bob
Bob
@Burgi really? it feels like ~US round-trip latencies
could also be because our ISP has terrible routing
it routes me through the US west coast if I want to hit my own OVH (Sydney) server
they are based in singapore iirc
Bob
Bob
@Burgi ah, that doesn't count :P
AU to SG latency is only slightly less terrible than AU to EU latency
and around AU to US latency
> The servers are spread across 11 locations in the United States, Brazil, Ireland, The Netherlands, Singapore and Australia. You are automatically directed to the nearest location based on your IP.
Bob
Bob
14:47
@Burgi Huh. They have AU servers?
apparently so
Bob
Bob
Hm. Could be the US routing.

Q: I fancy myself an amateur lawyer. Can I represent someone in court?

Saqib AliI live in Montgomery County Maryland. I am not a lawyer. But I have significant legal experience. I have successfully sued people, watched many trials, I have successfully won dozens of trials for my own traffic violations. And I'm a former state legislator. So I have read and argued about lots ...

> And I'm a former state legislator.
Not sure if real.
> Ali is employed as a Senior Software Engineer
O_O could very well be real
@HornOKPlease ^ :P
Saqib Ali (born January 21, 1975) is a former State Delegate in the Maryland House of Delegates, having been elected in 2006 to represent the 39th District. Ali is an American of Indian and Pakistani descent. == Background == Saqib Ali was born on 21 January 1975 in Chicago, Illinois. He is Muslim and credits his parents, who are of Indian and Pakistani descent, as the reason he became involved in politics. "[I am] from a family where they were always having political debates around the house, but then I found out that among all these family members who had all these grand ideas, none of them ever...
Bob
Bob
@HornOKPlease Yea I got the software engineer bit from wiki
Just thought you might find that one interesting for reasons :P
I'd never heard of him. He's at the lowest level of legislature. There's -
US Senate - "upper level" of bicameral national legislature
US House of Representatives - "lower level" of bicameral national legislature (reps are more locally focused than Senators)
Maryland Senate - "upper level" of state bicameral legislature
Maryland House of Delegates - "lower level" of state bicameral legislature with extremely locally-focused reps
And I don't live in Montgomery County, so he never appeared on a ballot for me
15:01
> Indian and Pakistani
Bob
Bob
@HornOKPlease Yea, this just stuck out to me:
> He is the only engineer (though he does not have a degree in engineering) among the 188 legislators in the Maryland General Assembly.
unusual mix given the traditionally frosty relations between those countries
@Bob he probably wrote his own wiki page
Bob
Bob
@Burgi Possible.
Though I think that could be right.
STEM politicians seem rare :P
Anyonere here an expert on AIX AS/400 ?
:D
If we do a transfer between two AIX boxes over the 100Mbit wan, it's slow as molasses
but either server, to any other server on the opposite end, is fine.
Bob
Bob
15:20
@djsmiley2k I think @HornOKPlease might be the only one here who's got experience with IBM mainframes :P
Really weird problem. Not sure wtf to think. Everything I find online points to there being a Duplex problem
But, the 'experts' who run the boxes assure me there isn't...
Something that concerns me is when I disconnected the cable 'known' to be one of the boxes last week..... it didn't go down
15:45
i used an AS/400 once about 20 years ago while on work placement
Anyone notice the upload image functionality is flat out broken now?
It only allows you to drag and drop a file, you can no longer provide a link to an image, nor can you select a file.
works for me
have you got an overzealous adblocker installed?
no
The style change
Its like they changed something
here or on the mainsite?
main site
They seem to have pushed an update to SU at the very least.
15:54
it works for me on SU
Do you get the old or new style?
have you tried clicking the drag and drop zone?
It makes me select a file, instead of, providing a link
when I tried clicking on the drag and drop zone, i select a file, and nothing happens
15:56
paste the URL into the file selector dialog
There is no input
the "click here" is the file upload
yeah, i pasted the URL into that box
@Ramhound ( Í¡° ͜ʖ Í¡°)
I click on the image, I see the drag and drop zone
I click on it, i get a file selection
There is no way to paste anything into it
16:00
Why in the world would they change it...
Any event the file selection still doesn't add the image to the post
only drag and drop
i clicked it, the dialog pops up, i paste the url into the file open box and hit open
it uploads it to imgur perfectly
Does not work for me
just uploaded that using the technique i described
Drop it where?
@Burgi oh, wait ok
thats the old uploader
16:09
How do I get the new one D:
@Burgi that's the chat uploader
It hasn't changed
@rahuldottech If all you're after is a super powerful router, stick pfsense or Openwrt onto one of your old laptops.
I swear at one point in the past, the chat upload was the same
you could just paste into it.
@noitsbecky No, what I'm after is a tiny IoT board
@djsmiley2k @Ramhound was talking about the main site
16:10
Man, I hate my life
I need a hug
go hug one of your many girlfriends
@Burgi I have none at the moment
I also need to be happy
Get me some Ecstasy
you've changed
@Burgi Yeah, crappy studies and school will do that to you
How so, though?
Bob
Bob
@Burgi that uses windows explorer (embedded ie) to download the image to a local temp folder
16:13
@djsmiley2k I don't recall that ever existing on chat
Bob
Bob
not really the same as load from url
@Bob whoa, that's so cool
@Bob gets the job done though
@rahuldottech hackster.io/measley2/… Tinier than that?
@noitsbecky i can't of imagined it surely D:
16:15
@noitsbecky doesn't have and internet stuff, or linux... So I guess it's just oT (other Things) :P
What's wrong with a Raspberry Pi exactly?
I guess if a RPi is too big you could always get one of these
@noitsbecky Too mainstream for me. I live for weird hacks. It's my drug. Why the hell do you think I make all the crazy shit that's on my github?
@rahuldottech Github's too mainstream for me, so I don't look at stuff that's on it. Oh well, good luck.
@noitsbecky I see what you did there -_-
Bob
Bob
@Burgi kinda. if you have shite upload it can easily take 100-1000x longer
speaking from experience :P
16:19
Seriously though. It makes me so happy when I figure out a weird hack around some weird crap to do some weird crap and it's so much fun I love this crap
@Burgi how have i changed tho
@Bob They have servers in AU?
@noitsbecky Yep. You don't even need to tip them! Unlike the US, they get paid proper wages!
Guy's got the same bike as me and same drone as a mate. Not jealous at all.

3 hours later…
19:40
@Ramhound I see what you mean about the image upload process no longer accepting an existing image URL.
However, you can still link to an image on the internet by pasting the URL into the File Open dialog you get when clicking in the new drag and drop area.
19:55
@MichaelFrank - I tried that. The dialog didn't accept it.
@Ramhound It's not a weird link with *.jpg?stuffhere is it?
Are you on Windows?
I copied and pasted a SE imgr link
Yes
* an existing
Like this, right?
19:59
Yes; I hit Open and nothing happens
What version of Windows?
Windows 10
Chromium 61
I am about to boycott Amazon
I am still waiting for my i9 9900k
Interestingly, when I tried to upload with Chrome on Windows 7, I got a Certificate popup... But then it worked.
So... I dunno what's going on with your computer. shrug
A certificate popup?
I do have popups blocked that might be it
But I never had a problem before the change, with any SE certificate, popup would indicate they broke the certificate.
Mmm. Much Samsung. Wow.
20:05
Child's Play I got the 1 TB
@Ramhound I think it was only relevant to our internal network here at work.
@noitsbecky Congratulations! I have a 1 TB 960 PRO on Astaroth.
20:48
@noitsbecky SHiny.
oh wow ur' back to becky
21:06
!!doge pro,shiny,samsung,becky,3d
 wow

     wow
                           very pro
so shiny
           much samsung
                       such becky
many 3d
Will be mirroring/cloning my existing NVMe SSD over to it later... might be the fastest disk cloning/mirroring I've ever done.
Going from a 2.5GB/sec read (before it throttles anyway) to a 2.5GB/sec write NVMe SSD, and I'll have the cover off so it might actually get all the way through before it throttles.
2 minutes to go through a whole drive, that's like back in the 1990's before drives got so big it took hours to read/write the whole thing :-D
21:21
Tell me about. This SSD is fast enough to saturate PCIe 3.0 x4.

1 hour later…
22:27
Hmm did the world economy fix itself while I was sleeping in a cave?
Everything seems to be trading in the green today
Even utterly shitty stocks that are down 98% on the year are up today
Did Trump say something smart? :-o
brexit got canceled?
@djsmiley2k That would make this the happiest day of my life
Brexit getting cancelled and getting my first Samsung NVMe SSD
#Priorities
i just .... want some codine or something
22:37
@djsmiley2k I... have a box of that somewhere
can ytou insert it in my gum?
cuirrently a big hole with bone at the bottom >_<
@djsmiley2k Codeine doesn't work as a topical anaesthetic
In order for it to work it has to be ingested and converted into morphine in your liver (or brain, can't recall exactly).
On it's own it does, well, next to nothing. Especially on the gums.
and via the hole in my gum is a quick route to both :D
If you want something you can rub directly onto the pain(ful area) Benzydamine is a topical anaesthetic recommended for oral pain, basically you use it as a mouthwash and it numbs anything it comes into contact with.
Ketamine, incidentally, also works as a "rub it in" painkiller as well as a "swallow it" painkiller.
That said didn't your dentist give you something after making said hole in your gum?
It should really be his/her job to supply you with appropriate painkillers after making holes in your mouth
huh
the whatsapp web thing tells you when your phone is low on juice
22:49
I've got boxes of pretty much all that stuff (obtained legally of course, after having holes put in my mouth by a qualified medical practitioner)
@Burgi Yup.
Because it uses a lame hack (remotely connecting to your phone) to let you access it via the web
@djsmiley2k sadly not. although pretty much everyone involved in the leave campaigns was corrupt and ignored election rules
s/leave/trump/ and you've basically got a mirror image of us across the pond!
23:11
Fack me it's cold tonight
Just said paracetamol and ibuprofen
Tho reading up, it should be closed by now ..
So this has gone well
I do have ambisol. Which is baby's teeth stuff. 95% alcohol and a few other things in there. That does work too
@Burgi and they wonder why the youth of today is turned off by politics?
23:37
i'm going to go to bed early i think
