Q: Someone blocked my account for inappropriate content while I posted none

EUserNameErrorDuring a chatroom conversation, I posted: Maybe they are having ***** (By the way, the word under ***** is "lunch".๐Ÿ˜‰) My account got suspended for doing so. Of course, the moderator who did the suspension (Journeyman Geek) has a history of pulling such pranks. Not to mention that ofte...

user226528
11:14
It is very petty to suspend someone for saying "Maybe they are having lunch".
except that's not what you said, is it?
user226528
It is.
No. it's not, lol
> I posted: Maybe they are having *****
user226528
So?
user226528
Did I wrote "they're" instead of "they are"?
11:17
So, you can't even make up your mind what you actually did.
***** isn't 'lunch'
you were inferring something else.
user226528
***** is five letters. English profanities are famous for being four-lettered.
Sure they are, but I can think of 3 right off which aren't.
user226528
Since I clarified in the next comment, whatever assumptions you made is null and void.
that's not how real life works
user226528
Indeed. There are double standard and power-misusing moderators in real lifes.
11:20
I'm not seeing any of those things here however.
I mean, I personally think you should of been warned, but maybe you've been warned before. I dunno
user226528
@djsmiley2k That sentence really downgraded my opinion of you.
user226528
Our moderators here post pictures of Anus Sausages in this chat room. Writing something about having lunch is not a crime.
Also you're (apparently) presuming it was @JourneymanGeek, where as if anyone flagged your comment (which happens a lot as you'll find if you stick around) and people validated it (which also happens a lot) then you'd get kicked.
@EUserNameError But you didn't write lunch.
You seem to be suffering with cognitive dissidence of what you think you said, vs what you actually typed.
And I'm going to leave this convo now, because I can't be bothered.
user226528
@djsmiley2k So, I am suspended something that I even didn't?
Such is life?
user226528
> We couldn't find the page you requested. We did, however, find some guys with an even more serious problem.
user226528
I see. So you either need to be the original poster or have mod permission.
/me shrugs
right, work to be doing.
what are the odds that the minion has suffered some sort of accident?
Which minion?
user226528
11:30
@Burgi Why don't you call him/her and find out?
because they aren't answering their phone
user226528
I am sure minion would appreciate a friendly call from someone who cares about his/her health.
user226528
Oh, that could be a problem.
user226528
Does minion take a voice message?
@Burgi unlikely but possible?
11:32
If it's an accident authorities contact you sooner or later. Might be said person is just busy getting the next highscore or something.
user226528
No. They contact the minion's family, not an unrelated person.
user226528
Unless minion has given Burgi's number as the emergency contact on his/her insurance form.
We might have to contact his next of kin to check that he is ok
user226528
Is "next of kin" considered extended family in British English too?
user226528
Do the British consider nieces the nexts of kin?
user226528
11:34
Oh, my apologies for writing "brits". I hope it wasn't as insulting as the word "lunch". (Sarcasm intended.)
Next of Kin in the case of employment, is usually whoever they wrote down on the form.
@EUserNameError don't play placeholder games. Getting suspended for that might be a bit much but you know that it's unlikely to assume a regular word like lunch if you willfully censor your sentence you ***** *****. Obviously you'd replace that with awesome human, right?
4
user226528
@Seth If you clarify it in exactly the next sentence, I wouldn't dream of suspending you for that.
user226528
Mod tools are supposed to stop actual malicious actions not benign humor.
Well the broader context for your post is missing. Whenever it was humor or something else isn't clear with your short extract.
user226528
11:39
Alright. From now on, I will judiciously apply the "flag" button whenever the context is not clear.
@EUserNameError it's just my thought based on your short extract in your question. Make of it what you want to. Also beware that flags can be declined and you might build a reputation for flags that are unnecessary.
Congratulations @Hakase?
user226528
@Seth Mod tools are supposed to be preventative and be used as the last resort against truly abusive people. It it the duty of the mod to inform the suspended person why he or she is suspended, so that he or she does not repeat the bad action again.
user226528
But no, I was neither warned before, nor after. In fact, the opposite has happened: Long ago, this mod actually told me that I over censor totally benign words.
user226528
So, having built a reputation to that effect, I think it was no logical to suspend for indirectly writing lunch.
12:00
You do realize why I made the above example, right? It's nice that you're a nice person and have good intentions but people have different backgrounds. Not everyone is going to assume a harmless word in addition, as stupid as it might be, playing the guessing game clarifying in a separate line makes it more likely to assume your original intend was to post something bad.
If you have such a precedence with that mod did you try to talk with him about it? If it was long ago he might also simply have forgotten about it.
user226528
@Seth "Not everyone is going to assume a harmless word in addition". Oh, he didn't assume at all. His comment makes it clear that he did know that the word was "lunch".
user226528
@Seth No. I actually had set his user account into ignore mode to spare myself reading his jokes.
Hi folks.
user226528
Hello, subject of current discussion.
dude, you need to chill
user226528
12:04
Oh, I am chill. If you people stop asking me question about it, I will stop responding too.
user226528
AFK. Important matter.
@EUserNameError I'm currently out. I'll post an answer when I get back.
However in general we have noticed an inability to play well with others. Your actions resulted in one user leaving the chat already.
Reading back... I'm not sure you're learning anything.
user226528
@JourneymanGeek I am listening now. Make your case and name those users too.
not cool, guys
that was an unwelcoming experience :(
user226528
True. Unfortunately, we are looking at cool in the rear-view mirror.
user226528
12:15
Getting suspended for writing "lunch" isn't cool.
seeing how there's fun police here flagging benign things from the shadows of the drama posts, I don't think this is a good room to be in right now
user226528
Implying that I should leave? Probably, I will.
user226528
After listening to this moderator making his case.
user226528
I've been here for a year and a half now. Troubles have only started very recently.
I don't know how you interpreted it that way
@Seth thanks
12:19
@Hakase plz don't go, I like you
@djsmiley2k I'll just be in my room as usual, where people don't flag inoffensive messages like what I just experienced here lol
@EUserNameError I won't name them, if you're so self-absorbed that you didn't see the event happen then you need to think about that fact.
I'm used to this nonsense by now
Do I not see flags from a room I'm in?
Because I saw nothing :/
you were away when it happened
don't worry about it
user226528
12:20
@djsmiley2k Thinking does not produce non-existent memory. Also, I was talking to Journeyman Geek, the accuser.
@Hakase nod, but normally flags remain on my screen forever, until I do something (even if they've already been actioned.)
@EUserNameError he's my case for now: you seem to be saying how things should work correctly, but it looks like you yourself are walking too close to the fine line of what's allowed, and getting mad when you get flagged for it
Or are we talking about the flag against thatBrazilianGuy the other evening, which i did see, and questioned?
I've only witnessed the discussion in the last hour, idk about any prior flag drama in this room
user226528
12:22
@Hakase Getting flagged for writing "lunch" in an indirect way? Yes, I get unhappy.
I don't think there was drama, just someone decided to flag the star list for 'luls'
@EUserNameError cept you didn't write lunch
you wrote *****
because you're gonna be ***** if you don't stop this
@djsmiley2k lunched? linched?
now I've missed my ***** because of this crap.
user226528
@djsmiley2k Don't waste your breath, sir. Journeyman Geek already acknowledged that he did read my clarification.
whoa careful :)
12:23
@Hakase It's obviously lunch, right?
So, here's the thing
it's always lunch.
Sometimes folk just.... are too clever for their own good. Its not just what you say, its the effect it has.
@Hakase this is me being nice.
lol wtf, uPVC spam?!
what I think needs to happen in this room is the attitude needs to be shifted to non-borderline-offensive >.>
12:24
and @EUserNameError - you kinda crossed the line with Avery already, and I felt the idea here is to provoke a reaction from folks.
or non-borderline-offended ?
either way, why not just talk about good things
If you keep dancing on the razor's edge of what's ok, you're eventually going to cut yourself.
errr wait
away from borderline-offended.
yeah. that.
if you wanna accuse someone, it's probably better to build a good case on meta than brainstorm it in chat
also remember that meme where the room "needs to change the topic when someone comes in and requests the topic change?" :p
12:26
@Hakase We actually have a really good room culture about such things most of the time.
I trust you coz you're a mod but today hasn't been representative I guess :p
are you only here because of it though?
@Hakase This is what we refer to as an incident.
These things happen. We deal with it.
Normally we are trying to cause Rahul to revise for exams, and other good natured stuff.
whatever, nevermind
user226528
12:29
@JourneymanGeek Ave left because of your insensitive comments. But if you have evidence that it was because of my comments, please show me.
.... dude. That's one heck of an accusation.
Considering I actually talked to Ave after that
user226528
Yes. You leveled one heck of an accusation at me.
user226528
For a year and a half, you people kept assuming good faith about me, no matter what I said.
user226528
What changed?
user226528
Something has broken very recently. I felt it but I can pin it.
12:32
oh so Ave left this room also?
user226528
Note: I, of course, assumed good faith in you, no matter what you did. JG's dog jokes which are now gone, and the fact that a certain mod almost exclusively didn't talk about computers.
Oh k.
The dog jokes will return.
user226528
Oh, no! He misunderstood.
So - here's what's going to happen.
@JourneymanGeek the Guardians of the Galaxy will return...
12:34
I'm going to deal with the incident earlier, and explain my reasoning.
(well, now I am intrigued)
I'll get another uninvolved site mod to take a look at the situation so far and review it.
HOWEVER, I reserve the right to act as I see fit in the meanwhile.
user226528
@JourneymanGeek No! Do you know how it feels to feel guilt all the times, having to check and double check everything I write and in the end get suspended one more time?
If you feel this place isn't going to work for you, I'm sorry.
user226528
A non-involved mod isn't the person who is insulted.
12:35
I have other users to look out for as well.
user226528
I want to know about the people who did feel insulted.
See? If it was just up to me? I don't want you here.
user226528
Oh, clippy!
BUT I'm giving you three choices.
You can keep pushing it, I'll do what I need to do, and deal with the fallout.
I can refer it to another mod, and they can deal with it, and you don't have to deal with a mod who kind of is tired of your actions
third? You can walk out. Its all cool. Maybe some day you can walk back in a better person.
@EUserNameError regarding this single chat message out of any other context (because I don't know much else about what's been going on in this chat room or on the site), don't you think that if you keep feeling these negative emotions, it makes sense to stop visiting the site which keeps this negative cycle perpetuating?
12:38
^^^
I've left sites because of that thought, and I'm happier for it
those communities were bad for me personally
I left The Bridge, because I wasn't happy.
I visit sometimes.
it's cool.
yea I don't find Bridge healthy for me personally
some people like it more than other rooms and leave them for Bridge
it's totally normal to not fit in every social group in the world
I however am pretty committed to SE network in general and I don't see myself leaving it even if I have to stop using all chat rooms
user226528
12:41
@JourneymanGeek What's the difference between Option 1 and Option 2?
I'm commited to doing what feels good.
@EUserNameError I'll need to spend time explaining this to someone else, and I don't need to deal with you personally.
@djsmiley2k well, the best source of knowledge and first-hand professional experience is "good" in my books :p
Also, I do not appreciate attempts to gaslight me.
as good as it gets actually
12:43
yus
as long as the media works
@djsmiley2k I like this place being cool. And happy
I've been an RO here for ages
user226528
@JourneymanGeek Gaslight you? You haven't stated a single tangible charge yet. Causing Ave to leave is came close to it but you kept it at weasel word level.
Ok. The accusations stop. If you feel this is unfair, feel free to use the contact us link to contact a CM
You don't get to come here, and accuse me of things like that.
user226528
Sure. Bye.
Sorry about the unpleasantness folks. I quite literally tried everything I could.
12:49
it's ok, we understand
best way to "deal with an incident" is to get back to normal chat discussion
Indeed
In other news "AHHHHHHHHHHHRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" - I'm scared
what why
I've been given a project to build the network out around a proof of concept setup for a customer!
lol
Oh dear
responsibility is scary!
12:52
YOU CAN DO THE THING! DOG BELIEVES IN YOU!
you know what you can use tho? visualstudio.com/services/live-share
hmmm, I'm gonna have to get some photos of my guinea pigs believing in me too, lol
!!powershell
showerpell
@djsmiley2k packet tracer is pretty fun for mocking things up
hmmm when the bot wakes up, there's gonna be a major hussle.
12:53
who's hosting that bot?
@JourneymanGeek it is, but there's a few interesting bugs/gottchas with it
naw, I think he only listens in on realtime.
and this isn't on cisco kit.
12:53
maybe you could do distributed bot hosting so if one pc dies, it's still live on others
alas
@Hakase cavil's backend is... interesting
@Hakase that'd be interesting at least.
I keep meaning to... look at how it works', but.... I'm not a coder
and I'm not gonna learn by the bot ;D
it's probably just a js bookmarklet bot
and I think we have enough people to actually host the bot, but we kinda run a varient on the plain vanilla zirtak caprica bot
based on zirak's prototype
12:54
Yup!
thing is, it's been stable for like a month, so I wonder what happened.
That's why he's cavil.
> interface eth1.913 already exists for a different unused network which will need amending. (This will need to happen out of working hours)
this is what scares me
Donno, but I don't really want to disturb quix or bob about it
0_0
just click the bookmarklet script then if it's public
12:55
Gonna come in early tomorrow and do it before work, rather than trying to do it in the evening and having it blow up, having to call the on call, who prob won't be able to fix it easily either.
oh but it's gonna post from your account lol
Ah oh, ew
I could run a firefox instance at home
but hten we need a way to make the bot reliably shut up
mm yea but you need dat bot's credentials
and afaik these bots don't have any awareness of other instances so they'll just all reply
lol
or get a sock
Its not hard to get to 20 rep the right way
cough
aibobot
robotic cough
it's not hard to ask a friendly mod to just explicitly allow it to post
that's how mine works
after... the incident
12:57
@Hakase I have an alt account. That hit a HNQ....
I've had them too...
I kinda had it to check things as a low rep user, or log in at untrusted work systems at lunch...
